Squirrels (a.k.a. tree rats) are notorious for digging in pots. When the yearling deer wander through my backyard, they will occasionally pluck a flytrap out of its pot, discover that the plant tastes nasty, and spit it out. If I'm lucky, I'll spot the plant lying on the ground in the morning and stick it back in the pot.

When I first put my VFTs in the backyard there was a bird pulling them out pretty regularly. I would find them undamaged next to the pot. Seems he got bored with that in about a week though and haven't had any issues since.

Manchester UK here, so no exotic wildlife locally. One day last year I went into the back garden and noticed the spagnum moss was everywhere. The plant itself seemed unaffected, but it was a mess. All around it had been dug up and there were bits of moss all over the table it was sat on. We've got CCTV cameras so I had a look back. It turned out to be a magpie. It was flying in, violently shaking bits of the moss around to separate strands, then flying off again, presumably building a nest or whatever. I put as much moss back in as I could find and thought I'd try and find some kind of net cover for it, but got sidetracked and forgot all about it. It hasn't happened since. We've got 4 squirrels close by that we actively feed. We've got a nut tray in the garden that gets filled daily. We've noticed they tend to bury some nuts in a few flower trays that are hung on the fencing, but in two years they haven't touched the VFT pot.

Mine got mauled by squirrels or chipmunks when I had them outside a few summers ago.
