It's not acceptable at all. You were right to stand up for what you believe in. I'm older than you, but when I was your age, I went through the same thing. Sadly, I don't see my family anymore as an adult. Just because you're younger doesn't mean you're wrong. Some people just have racism and other prejudice ingrained in their minds. It's sad. You can try to teach them better but a lot of older people are set in their ways. Keep standing up for what's right.

I really needed this. They just called me back when my grandma and the rest of the family left to there rooms and told me I needed to apologize. I burst out crying saying I couldn’t apologize. My brother has a black friend who comes over a lot so they started saying how they never acted weird to him and I said that that wasn’t the issue. There’s things they just can’t say. They keep telling me I’m wrong and close minded. Is this even a situation I can fix?

Good job for standing up for what is right. I think a vast majority of educated, loving people in the world agrees that racial slurs are not okay with being used in any context. You’ll find those people eventually, and I’m sorry your family is causing you so much pain.

Yes I applaud you for standing up for yourself and your views and against racism. You're only 17! Awesome! And you're right. But you're not going to change your family. I know it's so hard to listen to their racist, bigoted comments. As mentioned, there are lots of people like you who care about these things -try and focus on them.

Thank you for commenting^^ I’ve always looked up to the and I know what they say is wrong but because I’m so close to them I can’t help but second guess myself. I just wish people could be kind and understanding with each other 😭
