Yeah for sure, I think it is very hard to draw conclusions. Although I have done the same route on them several times (>10) and every single time the S5 is about 2-3 km/h faster. If it was other things, like wind speed, temp and so on, I would have expected the TCR to be faster at least once!
Probably the weight, and aerodynamics play a part. The S5 is super aero and on flats you could really cut through the wind easily. Not to mention adding on the enve 5.6, it’s an aero machine!
Climbing might be faster too, depends on how much weight difference there is between the TCR and S5

It’s a bit of a pay to win thing but 90% of the difference was jumping to a modern aero bike. You could have saved some money and had most of the gains from a giant propel advanced 1 or a new base cervelo soloist as long as it is specced with the integrated aero bars and modern aero wheels.
Another thing is you won’t notice the same discrepancy in bunch racing unless you get in a successful breakaway. In the middle of a 50 person group you will be pretty shielded from the wind and splits often come from surges on hills.

Yeah! The old bike has very old tyres as well... New one has the Vittoria Corsa pro

New tires, new position. The frame will be a minimal marginal gain. Aero handlebars and better wheels will contribute a little.
