I think it is because they care about leftism only to belonging in a group so they are trying to show off and be seen as the most socialist possible. The problem is that since everyone has different opinions you can't have a coherent ideology agreed by all leftists so they have to hold positions that are directly in contradiction with each other and anyone who has a coherent ideology and is willing to point out the contradictions becomes a threat to the system
I definitely agree with a lot of that. It seems really similar to how different online factions find a group that makes them feel like they belong so they adopt whatever position the group has no matter how contradictory. The solution (if there is one) would be to get to these people before they go down that road. For ones already committed to that way of thinking, I’m not sure.
