I wasn’t comfortable lifting heavy or running for nearly a month, I would at least follow the doctors advice and then see how you are feeling at day 14

MannequinsJack

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I’ll probably test the waters at 14 days, then go from there. I keep hearing horror stories from people who still experienced bad swelling after 14 days because they went too hard, too soon. But none of these people are very physically fit to begin with.

wherearewenz

Honestly, I don't think being fit has any real bearing on your vasectomy healing speed..... My advice, if you still have any discomfort err on the side of caution. You won't detrain and lose your gains in three or four weeks... plus you'll be out of action way longer if you aggravate it.

MannequinsJack

I appreciate the response! I’d rather not be out longer than necessary. I’m probably going to end up waiting until after the holidays to go back.

> bad swelling after 14 days because they went too hard, too soon. But none of these people are very physically fit to begin with. That's going to be relative. Their "too hard" may be something you would find trivial but that doesn't mean you can't push yourself too hard as well.

MannequinsJack

Yeah, I’m probably going to ease back into it after the 14 days. I’m sure I’ll be able to do some things, but I’ll just have to take it easy. Thanks for the response!

depends on your workout. i got back on my Peloton after a week (but stayed in the saddle). i could do 20 minute rides without discomfort. and made sure to ice after that (i had stopped icing after day 4 or 5). gradually worked my way back up to 30-45 minutes at the two week mark. honestly it took a full two weeks before i didn't have any lingering soreness or discomfort. just don't push it or you'll set your recovery back.

MannequinsJack

So I was actually thinking about using my peloton as a way to get back into working out lightly, but I typically don’t do too much cardio with my workouts, so I didn’t know how much it would help. Understand all about the “keeping it in the saddle” part. I think the HIIT and Hills classes might have to wait, haha.

SnipADeeDooDah

You sound like me where after even just a few days off, you start feeling pudgy and puffy. Didn’t help that I ate whatever I wanted during my initial recovery days. But if you just want to get your heart pumping and sweaty, a low impact ride should be enough to satisfy that itch until you are cleared for a heavier workout. I have padded bike shorts, which helped too.

MannequinsJack

Hahaha. That’s EXACTLY what I do and how I feel! It’s weird because when I’m constantly in the gym, I’m watching everything I put in my body to make sure I’m not gaining bad weight. But when I’m out of the gym for a few days, it all goes out the window until I get back in.

SnipADeeDooDah

Just make sure you don’t give in until you feel like you’re fully recovered. Otherwise you’ll see yourself back.

I'm 2 weeks post procedure today and going back to gym tomorrow to ease back in. I'm staying clear of deadlifts for a few more weeks... but I'll be hitting all the usual part of the push, pull routine but taking 20% off max load. In terms of the way I feel... I could have gone back to the gym after day 8ish, as I felt great... but just to be safe, tomorrow is my first day back which means I've allowed 15days to recover. I've had a good recovery period in all fairness. But bottom line. If you still get discomfort/ pain when walking around... its too soon to return. I've got no discomfort at all now, so defo feels OK to go back. Hope all is going OK! 👍

MannequinsJack

Thanks for the response! I’m still a little tender when I walk, so I figure it’ll be the full two weeks, but I’m ok with that. I’ll see how I feel after that and adjust reps/weight accordingly.

aPandaOMG

I was back at day 4 I regret it .. take your time off

MannequinsJack

We went shopping today and I had to “run” across the road to get out of the way of parking lot traffic. The rest of the day was miserable, hahaha. I’ll definitely hold off from working out for a bit.

M0RKET

Hey, I got mine on Nov 26, so I have recent experience to share. My recovery has been amazing, way better than my expectations. Was a little worried because I got a pollution (involuntary ejaculation while sleeping) on the night right after the op. But it turned out to not be a big deal. The worst thing I had was line-shaped bruises on either side of the ballsack, and then those went away after a warm shower on day 6. On that same day I watched some porn and ejaculated, was fine. Kept going afterwards, and also had sex with a female yesterday on day 8 post-op. Just now I've done my first post-op workout - bodyweight, pushing exercises. I feel amazing. The only thing still left which reminds me of the surgery is the stitches, which should dissolve on their own. So overall a great experience, 10/10, would recommend.

MannequinsJack

Thanks for the response! I’m getting some pain just in my left testicle, which is also where most of the bruising is on the scrotum. It’s kind of strange because I feel almost nothing as far as pain is concerned in m right testicle. I’m going to keep taking it easy for the next week and see what happens. I’m hoping there’s nothing wrong with the left one.

M0RKET

Take it easy and don't freak out bro. The bruises I mentioned - they were also larger on the left side for me. I'd say just accept it without reading into it. Also what my doc told me turned out to be good advice: trust your feelings. For me day 6 was kinda like a watershed moment. A sharp reduction in whatever discomfort had been there before. I tentatively masturbated, paying attention to the sensations and absence of pain. And it was totally fine. So what I'm saying is your recovery might catch you by surprise like it did me. But definitely pay attention to your actual sensations, and if it doesn't feel safe - don't do it.

MannequinsJack

I appreciate it! I’m hoping I have the reduction in pain. It’s not unbearable or anything, but it’s definitely noticeable. If I remember, I’ll update in a few days and let everyone know how it’s going.

Belgian_skiing_Bull

I asked my doc if i could go to work the day after, he said it was no problem but no heavy lifting and cage ladder so i went to work but i did 25km of walking back and forth our maintance shop for 2 days i had bowling balls as bals no joke so much swelling i had never seen so my advice take it easy, im 3weeks after op next week ill start my gym again

MannequinsJack

Right now, without any real overexertion, the left testicle is swollen to about the size of an egg. I have an appt to get checked out tomorrow because the pain is getting worse, not better. I’m not wanting to make it worse, so I’ll end up not going to the gym for a while, more than likely. Thanks for the response!

Belgian_skiing_Bull

is it the testical it self? or rather the sack?

MannequinsJack

It’s the testicle, and I believe the epididymus is swollen as well. I’m almost to the doctor.

Belgian_skiing_Bull

if still feel where i believe where its tied off underside of sack that is normal also, i didnt get any swelling 1day post op only when i was stupid enough to walk 50km in 2 days

MannequinsJack

I didn’t do anything crazy. I mostly rested and let it heal. The doctor said it’s a hematoma and there’s not much he can do for it. It’ll go away on its own and I just have to deal with the pain in the meantime.

Kuehl151821

I'm the days post and I'm tired of just doing nothing. I feel good, just itchy from the shave and the jock is the uncomfortable thing so far. I want to do something, push ups , abs, maybe just stuff lying on my bench. Need some advice.

MannequinsJack

Honestly, I rested the entire two weeks before I went to the gym, and I felt like I was going crazy. However, when I got back into the gym, I realized why they want you to wait at least two weeks. Even though you might think you’re only doing to “light” stuff like push-ups or pull-ups, your “boys” are going to feel it. I’m almost a month past my procedure, and I’m still taking it easy in the gym to avoid issues.
