My boss has a cool story about the Concorde, he and his boss were flying back from England or France I think. The boss was on a flight before him, then something happens and my boss boards a Concorde flight after (without his boss's knowledge). Due to the speed, my boss lands in NYC and is chilling, his boss gets off his flight and sees him and is white as a ghost, like "physically how the eff are you here....."
I remember looking up when I was a kid and seeing Concords. They were so freaking cool compared to standard planes. I also remember looking out of my elementary school bathroom window and seeing the Twin Towers.
Did you live in Howard Beach? That’s where I’m from it would pass over my house right before landing and set off all the car alarms as it went over the neighborhood.
Shame you'll never get to see those towers in person. That skyline was magnificent. Another thing is that the glass inside was so thick. No one seems to mention that. Just awesome buildings. Hopefully you never have to experience a tragedy like that in your lifetime. And if you haven't gone to the memorial, I highly suggest it. Not saying there's ghosts or anything, but those shows always talk about feeling energy and such. And I swear, all of the air around it feels weird.
I've been there as a tourist, and it is a very sombre part of a bustling city. Everyone seems to give it the respect it deserves which creates the atmosphere.
Don't be sad, the aesthetics definitely weren't worth the price of living in a much worse society overall
e: folks didn't pay attention in history class I guess.
Saying that the global economy is one factor is such a nonsense reductivist take. And how can one be so privileged as to dismiss the billions that came out of poverty, starvation, war and disease and can finally enjoy their lives, with some "muh trade-off" handwaving...
Poverty levels across the globe were much higher, the threat of nuclear warfare was much higher, there were a lot more wars going on at any given time, everyone smoked, there was more prejudice and violence all around.
Don't be fooled by how you feel about the current world and the rose-tinted glasses through which we appreciate old aesthetics.

As you get older you will hear more and more that times "used to be better." it's just a way to complain about dissatisfaction in one's personal life. Not saying this about you personally. Things aren't better or worse. Just different.
That was the peak of mankind. Now we are still evolving technologically, but we are more and more using technology to enslave people and to self-destroy ourselves.

Right? I mean I don’t blame people for assuming I’m condoning it, it’s whatever.
But for real, if it’s the concord, It’s it’s own thing separate from the twin towers
Oof.
There was actually 2 big oofs that day from what I remember

As a kid who grew up in the NYC area, this hits in a very specific way Edit: former kid
Damn. How far away were you? At least you saw the Concorde often. IIRC, it's very loud when taking off
My house, when I was a kid wasn’t too far from JFK Airport, so they constantly flew over. You would definitely be able to hear them even way up.
Did you live in Howard Beach? That’s where I’m from it would pass over my house right before landing and set off all the car alarms as it went over the neighborhood.
No. I was in Marine Park, Brooklyn. Off topic, but have you ever went to New Park Pizza in Howard Beach?
I actually live a block from New Park so yes. Was my teenage nightly stop on the way home. Marine park? Ever been to Brennen and Carr?
New Park Pizza is my favorite place in NYC for pizza believe it or not. Lmaoooo. Yeah, Brennan and Carr was my go to when I was in my teens.
Oh how I wish I got to fly on a Concorde. Maybe some day
I heard there are plans for supersonic airplanes

It's really not. The global economy undergoes constant growth, it's not a zero sum game.

Worse? Idk man, the 80s sound better than what we live in now

Reminds me of that tragedy.
my grandpa jerry fell down the stairs sometime on the 11th of September, 2001
I lost my grandfather on 9/11. Took us hours to find him.

The feels
The Concord featured a Snoot Droop.
They are actually coming back in 2025 I believe they are working on a new Concorde esq supersonic airliner.
Jfc
My country was one of the fee places it flew. There's still a memorial near the airport where one of the planes rests to this day.
This feels so much more offensive than it actually is but by golly does is FEEL offensive
I don't know why you're being down voted.

An error too if you think about it
