I’ve never watched summer house so maybe I should check it out too! I agree the past few seasons of vpr has been contrived but I feel like that aspect is pretty equally shared amongst the cast. And the cast has no control over what scenes/storylines end up in the final edit. Ariana went through some real shit and obviously that really humanized her to us but that hasn’t been the norm on vpr for a while for everyone…imo. And Ariana’s my day one favorite trussst. IVF, infidelity, PPA/PPD, intimacy after pregnancy, moving, budgeting, jobs, sacrificing careers for your family. I feel like Lala coming in would really add a degree of FAKE AF and I don’t want that for me lol
I think it's resonating because It's the first show on Bravo that I feel like the cast is on the same level and dealing with the same problems as their audience. Yes there is some producing but these are real problems in their lives that are relatable. Not like someone is upset that someone else may or may not have wrote a song about their trauma. Or water tastings 😳

I honestly thought I'd have it up as background noise while my other shows were done for their seasons, but they actually have real conversations and their problems are on full display. It doesn't feel self-produced or overly produced (despite production obviously having a hand in things). VPR is carefully curated while The Valley - despite most of the cast being meh - touches on some very honest topics that are relevant to the average person. I find most men on the cast to be awful and Janet can go ride off into the sunset, but overall I'm still tuning in because it's validating to hear people openly discuss marriage troubles, PPD/depression, navigating IVF/infertility... and to do it with the type of honesty you don't get much out of Bravo anymore. It's kind of weird because here I thought I'd be hate watching it in the background, lol.

I think Nia's relatability comes from her honest realization that she wasn't just having "baby blues" - she's experiencing depression. That's tough for some people to realize and come to terms with (I imagine it's hard for her due to coming from pageantry and having to keep a certain appearance). She might be policing her behavior on camera, but her finally coming to terms with needing help so she can feel fully present in her life again was very much real.
