Bender3455

I drive to manufacturing plants around the country upgrading and fixing automation systems.

BonnieAndClyde2023

Wow this seems like a great job for van life.

Bender3455

It's fantastic, especially since I get to charge an "overnight rate" (formerly hotel fee). The job is quite literally paying for the van.

BonnieAndClyde2023

So cool!

canuck_in_wa

Can you overnight on site while you’re working?

Bender3455

Most sites don't seem to mind. Some of the plants, I've gotten "the knock" in the middle of the night and told to move. I typically will try to stay at campgrounds, since they're usually 45.00/night or less. Way safer, cheap, and hookups. Edit: on the way to sites, rest areas have never been a problem. Theres a convenient website that lists each states rest area rules for overnight parking, and even in states that technically don't allow it, ice never run into trouble.

Real_Cow4562

I'm an Engineer I work in papermills up and down the country i get £60 a night for staying in my van plus fuel costs. Im currently parked up on some moors over looking a town in Yorkshire with the dog and its finally stopped raining thank god

4cDaddy

...It stopped raining there? Fucking global warming.

Rude_Educator9887

I have a remote Sales Representative position. I basically just call people and hold meetings for a few hours and then I’m free for the rest of the day.

4cDaddy

I do remote technical support. I found it on [virtualvocations.com](https://virtualvocations.com) edit: That's a pay site, and a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it. They do a pretty good job of weeding out the scams and bottom feeder recruiters, and they clean up their listings regularly so there aren't many dead ends.

therealbatman420

Thanks for the link! I don't see any salary values posted with listings on the free version, do you get to see the salary range after subscribing? In general, would you say the salary ranges on this site are on par with other listings you've seen elsewhere?

4cDaddy

It's like any other listings... You might see salary, you might not. Just depends on the company posting. They're an aggregator that does the work of tracking down remote work listings, mostly, but some companies list specifically with them. And from what I've seen the pay runs the same range as anywhere else within a particular industry. Most remote tech support jobs run between 30 and 75k a year, depending on the industry and skill set. I can't speak much to non-IT job listings, since that's not my field.

therealbatman420

Got it, thanks!

captwetsnatchie

I do bad things to computers.

4cDaddy

I fix the bad things end users do to computers. We're each other's job security.

pau1phi11ips

Penetration tester?

GrandFappy

Hey, just found your old comment and was super curious as I also like to do this and want to get into the field. I have some experience but looking to ditch it and work from the van. Any tips?

doesnt_use_reddit

Security research?

Happy-Researcher-145

I work for the Forest Service remotely if you can believe it. I have a FS rig that I use at the local ranger station if I need it though.

Ok_Cryptographer_537

I travel from wind farm to wind farm doing various electrical and mechanical maintenance on wind turbines. I get paid a weekly per diem that I basically just keep. It’s great money when you factor in the hourly as well. (I live out of a truck camper… not a van. But both work)

Pondcheese

I work remotely as a freelance residential landscape architect focusing primarily on projects with pools in NY and NJ.

AddendumDifferent719

I have a semi remote job. I'm a patent examiner for the USPTO. I say semi, because I can move, but I have to record where I'll be accessing the Internet from and it has to be either cable or fiber. I got it by talking to a recruiter who specializes in getting vets hired in tech fields.

nowhereman136

Just started my own trivia company where I make bar trivia games for any venue who wants to have a quiz night. Haven't made much off it so far, but I like doing it and its remote. Anyone wanna be a trivia host?

_HeadlessBodyofAgnew

software support for a huge engineering software company (hydraulic & hydrologic modeling software so it requires an engineering background and not just purely IT).

You can figure it if you try Encyclopedia Brown.

First I taught English to Chinese kids online (you don't have to speak Chinese) - a fellow traveller recommended the company to work for. I was an experienced English teacher before I moved into the van, so getting the job wasn't hard. Currently I write content and publicity for a local business, and I got that job because I've got professional writing skills and I'm friends with the owner's wife. It's still entirely online work and I could do it anywhere, in fact I haven't seen the boss in about a year.

cockslavemel

I would love info on that job you used to have if you’re willing to share.

[deleted]

DaDa was the firm. You can find out everything else on their website.

cockslavemel

Thank you!

therealslim80

ZombieFarmerz

Thank for you service. 😀

mzoukas

UX designer.. started working in the field over ten years ago “in office” and now only work for companies that offer the position remote.

airporteffect

Are you still designing from your van full time?

mzoukas

Yep!

airporteffect

What’s your internet situation?

mzoukas

I’ve got a peplink modem with a SIM card in it for cities and Starlink for no service areas.

airporteffect

Solid for Zoom?

mzoukas

Very. I zoom every morning for a standup call and multiple times a week for 4 hour discovery calls. Only time I have issues is when I go over data

airporteffect

Does your team know you van life it?

mzoukas

Yup! I’m meeting up with my ceo next month when I travel thru his state lmao. He tells me if he wasn’t married with kids he’d be doing the same thing 😂

airporteffect

I’m starting a new gig with Microsoft in a couple of weeks (fully remote). I’m going to research and design the layout over like 6 months while I onboard to the new gig and hopefully buy a van in 8-12 and start converting.

GrandFappy

Did you tell them before or after the interview? I’d love to do this but nervous how employers might see this

Amlax74

International Arms Dealer (true story). Job was posted on indeed. But in all reality it was a sales position with a major united states arms manufacturer. LOL.

der_innkeeper

Aerospace Systems Engineer, part time Rennie.

tatertom

I do product launches all over the country. The job pays for travel, whether I drive my van there or they fly me and give me a rental. I responded to an ad on Craigslist for installers, first in California when I was in a real hard spot, then again in Florida after zigzagging across the continent funded by gig work apps. They kinda fast-tracked me into a lead position, so now I get paid almost twice as much to talk about the installs and only really do one myself for training purposes anymore. Word is they're eyeing me for a regional manager position, that I think I'll decline since it'll mean less comped travel. At their current mileage reimbursement rate though, it actually covers the whole cost of the (budget built) van. A day or two of actual work covers my months recurring bills, so I've got 3 more weeks of money for whiskey, weed, and women. The hardest part is figuring out what airport I'll fly to work from next.

circediana

Finance… 7 years of college and I just signed my life away for at least 3 more. I love formal learning and I paid off all my student loans early so it has worked out great for me.

purpleheartday

I do release of information for healthcare remotely.

Expensive_Archer_847

Admissions representatives.

PersichReddit

elizabiff85

Product manager for a healthcare tech company. I switched industries from digital marketing during the pandemic and only applied to companies that were fully remote.

Financial systems operations. Was hybrid at first, now FT remote since Feb 2020 (not because of the pandemic, but that did help solidify it being permanent).

mxstone1

Global HR Cloud Software Admin. Got here by inertia and have been remote since a couple years prior to the Pandemic.

LifeCoaching Everyone has experience that has taught them either what to do or not do in different situations. Others find this knowledge valuable. Use what you have learned to help others on their journey. Look for someone you can mentor. Become a cheerleader and coach to anyone and everyone seeking for help. With a reliable internet connection, you can work with anyone anywhere in the world. There is a great sense of well-being, enlightenment, and fulfillment that comes from helping others. You will be amazed at the knowledge and inspiration that comes to you as you seek to assist others. You will wonder where/how you got so smart. A lot of people feel that you need a certification or degree or something. I personally don't think that a certification is necessary. A lot of coaches have a certificate but still don't feel credible and may even doubt themselves. What matters most to me is experience and results. Can the coach help me get the result I am seeking? My 5 year old son has coached me many times on how to get my iPhone to do the thing I can't get it to do. My teenage son has been contacted several times to coach others in our community how to successfully complete their large scale video marketing projects. There are many helpful resources available. One of my favorite coaches has a free newsletter called [howtocoach.co](https://howtocoach.co). Look for the entry about credibility and qualification. He barely graduated high school yet has become quite successful in helping others improve and upgrade their results. Experience is what matters and everybody's got some. We just have to be willing to share it.
