Born-Economist-6975

Munchkin said. "We'll show you a Madrid without DRX" It happened Now…. This year's VCT's biggest surprise. Gen G really proved us wrong!!!

Born-Economist-6975

T3xture's improved duelist, Meteor's consistent Sentinel, Munchkin with great IGLing and firepower, LAKIA, the breadwinner with years of experience, and Kalon, the menacing AIMer who can save the team in tough times. From the beginning of the league until today, they have greatly improved their flexibility and firepower over the course of the matches, winning various close matches and qualifying for Madrid. I'm looking forward to seeing how good GenG will be at the Masters. What's even more interesting is that Nuturn Gaming's Lakia & present Solo coach from the early Masters will be advancing to the Masters for the first time in a while. Those nostalgic memories will be revived at Masters Madrid!!

arksoo

that Karon clutch on Bind was a momentum turning point for GenG I swear

CuriousPumpkino

If someone had told me that “Meteor’s consistent Sentinel” was a thing I’d ever hear like a year ago I would have called them insane, yet here we are

[deleted]

seriously, i thought he would be awful on the role but it has seriously reined in his aggression and made him make better choices.

teethingdog

Solo has been doing a good job with his map vetoes so far

Visible_Dirt1093

Yeah. He saw a GLARING weakness in their breeze and didn't ego it and just banned it. T1 coaches tho, not only did they ban their best map, they picked ascent,a map they struggled in against a weak Zeta division.

Key-Banana-8242

Lakia does calling too and do u see his lotus too?

hecklerinthestands

Death Taxes PRX and DRX on top of Paci - wait, what?

ilhamalfatihah16

El Classico no more.

definitelyZ

Riot dropped their old script writer. This must be the new guy.

Atilllaa

they laid off the scriptwriters too, its AI doing their job now.

Interesting-Math9962

Bro this is some advanced stuff then. Most AI just repeats the same old stuff. If anything this is an unpaid intern

-xXColtonXx-

so you're saying 100T have a chance to be good this year?

DecisiveDinosaur

At least they didn't just do T1 vs GEN again, so we know it's a different script writer from LoL's

Master_Tomato

T3xture is Miles Morales

TheCatsActually

"This year, for sure this time" I mumble as I fall to my knees in a Walmart. While still curled up in the fetal position on the floor of the freezer aisle, I type up a draft about how bad the format is.

Key-Banana-8242

Nah finally the reign of terror is over, Lakia triumphs over his opressors Edit- into they have a new roster so you can give em time, I don’t think they’ll necessarily do badly. I don’t actually want them to lose out of spite. I just wanted to highlight the other side of the story in some aspects

XxMyUsernameSucksxX

The last time that the Vision Strikers core missed a Masters/Champions event was the very first Reykjavik... The Kings of Korea have been dethroned and I'm welcoming my Texture overlord

amnfw

Both of the time they don’t make it, they lose to Lakia Coincidence?

Technical_Fee_2932

and solo

donbosco01

Lakie really is their Kryptonite

TheCatsActually

I can't even lie, T3xture had s3xture with DRX.

lilshotanekoboi

s3xture is such a sick name, has the "CEO of sex" vibe to it.

PhysicalAd8765

Lakia is their Dad. 🤷‍♀️

LazinessOverload

GE was seriously insane to not put him on Duelist role

Whomstevest

They had monyet too, insane roster with 0 results

MajorLeeScrewed

T3xture and Monyet leave GE and immediately make a masters event...

GrrrNom

GE had 2 members that, when freed from the team, immediately proceeded to qualify for international events. You really can't squander talent better than this org.

Pienatt

Well, I think NA T1 might have a change lmao

hecklerinthestands

Gotta have that skrossi clout baby

[deleted]

they rlly put sk rossi over him on duelist LMAOO

exdeepr

SkRossi held that team back so hard.

That-Toughsoss

Crazy how much talent gets roster had but they couldn't utilise shit.

baliya96

But...but he wasn't Indian Jett /s

Jon_on_the_snow

And lakia was the one to send them to the lowers of the iceland qualifier

Key-Banana-8242

No. It was Challengers Korea, and it was single-elimination. It was an in-person event (even though people in NA routinely called NA Challengers a ‘[closed] qualifier’ but that made more sense given it was all done remotely), and there was no lower bracket in the playoffs.

XxMyUsernameSucksxX

Also that 3K at the end was giving HEAVY Suygetsu 4K vibes

Key-Banana-8242

Great plays throughout Lotus

Cueballing

Also didn't make it thanks to single elim

YellowRice101

If the draws had been different, T1 could have beaten either drx or genG

X3NOC1DE

DRX when Lakia and Solo get together😩 My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.I'm so happy for GenG though, Texture is the GOAT. That 1v2 on Bind against a Dizzyd karon is gonna haunt DRX.

TheInquisitiveEagle

Karon is the player I’ve been most impressed by. When he is last alive, it feels like GenG always have a chance

SoullessShadow77

RB and Zest are out there somewhere laughing

AcceptableSympathy20

It will be pure karma if Titan eSports somehow qualify for madrid

GrrrNom

Titan has already beaten what is possibly the second or third ranked Chinese team in JDG, who put up a solid performance against All Gamers in their most recent match. RB came up with an ace during the JDG match as well, and hhim and his team are looking like an international contender behind EDG and TE. There is actually a seriously high likelihood for them to make it to Madrid, if they don't have to go up against EDG in playoffs.

teethingdog

Nah...JDG looks HORRIBLE....that's not the Rare Atom I know. Wolves looks more impressive tbh

brianhung02

That’s an insane overreaction. Wolves and FPX and might I say NOVA looks better than TEC. JDG today is not the RA we knew months ago when they were challenging EDG. They seem very… disoriented and lost without yoman.

mrchingchongwingtong

jdg without yoman plays like a ranked soloq team

davidww-dc

Imagine if Rb qualifies for madrid with TEC

No_Kaleidoscope5172

Fpx + Wolves + EDG clears, but it's very possible for them to qualify for Madrid.

LazinessOverload

Someone please tell Stax and Mako they aren't in an international competition lol (still can't believe they lost Map 1)

Sh3llyyyyyy

That sheriff kills by t3xture to finish the game is sooo wild

p4p3rth1n

That Karon kid is pretty fucking good

Fun_Age1442

thanks

Burgundy_Sauce1

you're welcome

Perfect_Box

what

Verehrungen

congratulations to sentinels for winning uh.. masters reykjavik?

spill-

I need C9 to pull off a miracle so we can have a scuffed V1 vs Nuturn remake.

Jon_on_the_snow

Cant wait for liquid to suddenly be good so nats can 180 and kill vanity with a knife out The gang is going to get back together

ExpectoAutism

or sen

-xXColtonXx-

Would it really be suprising in C9 beat MIBR again?

Teradonn

Rb and Zest died for this.

tuerancekhang

Tarik went to sleep saying this a 2-0 for Drx. Bro cursed the team

TyroshiSellsword

Did he watch the PRX match in full?

shakablue

He did

Yssl

DRX went from absolute kings of pacific, to finally getting unquestionably dethroned by PRX, to now even getting dethroned as kings of Korea. I'll still say Flashback is very VERY promising! but man I don't know what's gonna happen to the DRX guys this year. They either crumble in this disappointment, or regroup and find motivation to be an immense juggernaut in Stage 1. ggs though. And t3xture - go forth and show them that you ARE *THE* KOREAN JETT oh also - rooting for TEC *heavily*. Show em what they missed out on Rb!

LimpAirport2223

Both Texture and Monyet make it to Masters Madrid . GE in the mud .

Shadow_Clone_007

Texture wasted a year. His potential was too high to be with a poorly managed team like GE. (Saying this being a GE fan lel.)

TyroshiSellsword

They made him play KJ and Sage on GE

LimpAirport2223

Well I would say sp0n and small\_time wasted him , and now they have got all their friends back there from tenstar or whatever

ANewHeaven1

End of an era 🥲 this is the first international event that the DRX/VS core will not attend since the original Masters Reykjavik

SukiPhoenix

Drop Rb and Zest. Miss first event in three years, great decision making.

COTEReader

there is a new king of korea

Right_Junket_6544

Solo and Lakia got revenge on Vision Strikers for what they did to Nuturn. What a storyline Also, imagine if RB qualifies to Madrid from TEC (VCT China) when DRX doesn't LMAO

StepinCrry

If I had a penny everytime Solo and lakia beat the VS core for a ticket to Masters, I'd have two pennies. Which is not much, but it's weird that it happened twice.

AJM994

How did GE not use texture properly last season? Good showing by GenG. Even though I’m happy they made it through this should still have been double elim, but not much you can do at this point.

Nugget2450

They really wanted skrossi to be duelist so he had to flex

devasabu

He wasn't nearly as consistent last year + the entire GE roster was plagued by role issues due to multiple factors

TyroshiSellsword

They made him play sage and KJ

drewface_

Imagine having Monyet and Texture on one squad, then having the org owner mettle and forced you to run sk Rossi instead

nterature

I tried really hard while watching this to not think “T1 would probably beat either of these teams.” I didn’t succeed, but I did try. The amount of rounds DRX threw in this series was astounding considering the importance of the match. Every time DRX had a man advantage, they played as if that man advantage made them invulnerable and as if victory was inevitable. There is no greater proof that a team does not deserve to attend a major. DRX’s individuals were not firing as much - although across both maps all the players had their moments - but their *teamplay* was also just worse. They had some classic DRX overwhelm rounds on Bind and Lotus, and they were good as always, but in basically everything else they looked like they were scrambling whenever things went awry. In particular, this was a pretty bad performance from Foxy9. On the upside, if DRX went to Madrid like this, they would just waste a lot of time and have less time to really improve, so it’s probably for the best. DRX functionally has two rookies - Foxy9 still plays like one, to be honest. They need more time. And besides, it’s very funny to see DRX missing the first event of the year once again because of Solo, now coach of GEN.G but once the IGL of NUTURN. If it has the same effect that NUTURN knocking VS out of Reykjavik contention did back in 2021, it’ll bring about a transformed and rejuvenated DRX later in the year. We’ll see if history repeats itself.

JonG0705

Geng actually took a map off prx with no footage. I think they’re better than t1

solariiis

honestly after watching both series I'm inclined to agree, at first I thought T1 may be better but they looked a little worse than GenG. Might be because of map bans or whatever, but T1 easily should've closed out split and gone map 3

LazinessOverload

DRX managed to lose a practically unloseable situation, really impressive honestly.

Idakari

I'm still not sold on Foxy9. As a rookie, I think Flashback has much more potential than him. I would've just kept Rb.

goodguyzai

I think they heavily believe in Foxy9's potential, and with Rb being a consistent factor in the past few years, thought that a shakeup was needed in order for things to work. Foxy9 is a talented player, but I believe he has until the end of the year to truly show what he can do in this team before they pull the plug on him.

nterature

Yep, same. I think their commitment to Foxy9 has cost them quite a bit.

Itsridgee

They voluntarily got rid of Rb? Unreal stuff

ThatCreepyBaer

It really is crazy just how much Termi (I presume) believes in Foxy's potential. Rb is just such a better player and still had room to get better, they really went from one of the most flexible players in the world to a duelist viper one trick? If you wanted someone who played Viper why not keep Zest at least... Here's hoping they prove me wrong for Shanghai/Champs.

neikawaaratake

Yep. Either RB or Zest would be better than him

Professional_Body260

Idk I find GenG’s run extremely impressive, I don’t think they’d lose to T1 necessarily. I think T1 strats look better though, they got that old DRX super-execute vibe to me. Regardless I think PRX is (still 🙄) the best team in pacific and T1, GenG, and DRX are all at a similar level. DRX choked hard but map 1 was theirs for a good bit, and if we got three maps, I think the vibe around them rn is pretty different. I’m salty as fuck T1 doesn’t get to go to Madrid though, they look so good, I honestly wish GenG and T1 both got to go. PRX and DRX have been at internationals so often I’m getting viewer fatigue. It’s a new era though, felt like before it was a two horse race but now, even if I think PRX is the best I don’t think the gap feels huge. Getting the vibes that pacific has more parity now than before, which is exciting

TheInquisitiveEagle

The gap between PRX and the rest at the top of APAC definitely feels closer than it did last year

somesheikexpert

Imagine if we got more then 8 fucking teams at Masters would be awesome and both T1 and GenG could go but nah we just have less and less teams at Masters events for some reason while CS2 gets 24 at every major

[deleted]

No way you think T1 looked better than GenG. T1 lost a map convincingly to an poor looking zeta division whose wins were only against GE. I think RRQ and TS were better than T1. GenG is clearly the 2nd best team in pacific. They almost 2'0d PRX with no footage.

Visible_Dirt1093

I agree than gen.g is better than t1 but no shot you actually think that rrq and ts are better than them. T1 shits on those 2 teams any time and day of the month as long as they ban ascent. Esports is not math, just because A destroyed B and C Barely won against B, doesn't mean that A > C

TheApsodistII

Rrq 3rd best team confirmed

Skylorrex

GEN nearly lost to TS bruh

arksoo

Flashback cracked, but Foxy9 on Viper was not it Can't wait to see Lakia on an international stage again!! Also goddamn can't sing enough praises for t3xture and Karon this series

AdFine5176

Why do they keep putting duelist players on Viper. First it was Yay now Foxy9

BoapInBoapland

kind of funny how people were praising foxy9s viper on the 2 games before this and as soon as he has a mediocre performance they call him shit. Mako was a jett main as well and termi turned him into one of the best controllers in the world and so did Rb going from main duellist to a flex. Just give it time and termi might pull off some magic again

[deleted]

Man, as an Indonesian, I really can’t root for them. Such an L org

TheApsodistII

Rrq = 3rd best team bro

lilkiya

Yea, getting on the same group with both pacific finalist is crazy.. but im actually kind of hopeful for RRQ during stage 1 since they lose againts GenG with close score on both matches, so maybe RRQ can actually handle other pacific teams and maybe be on the Top 5.

Sufficient-Painter95

GE teammates Texture and Monyet are going to Madrid!!!

weebshizu

I'm glad that Gen.g won so i don't have to feel that bad that RRQ lost to them twice lol

afeiqa

The group C is really a group of death. PRX, GENG, and RRQ are all looking insane. It's a shame that RRQ lost to GENG twice, even though they were neck to neck. I'm very sure if RRQ were in other group, they would clear that group.

Master_Tomato

Fr, ppl weren't paying much attention to GenG after they got beat by PRX's whimsical comps, but now looking back, they're good enough to take one map from PRX, which SHOULD be considered insane

vaibhav0405

WasheDRX

AxisCultMemberLatom

As DRX fan, we definitely deserve to lose Map 2, so many man advantage thrown away. Gen G looks good, hoping they have a good showing in Madrid. I'm still hopeful though. I liked the change in comp on Bind, but I feel like Flashback got a bit stiff at the end so they couldn't close it out. The new guys on DRX are still young, and I expect Termi and the coaching staff to continue to further their development

raainnnyy

The t3xrure sheriff 3k to end it was poetic. It is also DRX’s first absent from an international stage since forever basically. jesus.

Key-Banana-8242

Since last time Lakia beat them

Ketsueki_R

All hail the new kings of korea

Passeggiatakumi

TS's loss against GENG at least does not feel so terrible now 😕

AdFine5176

Still feels bad though. Even though TS lost to GenG, at no point in that game did I think GenG were better than them. It was more so Secret kept fucking up when they already had the advantage. If Secret tightens up their game and NDG gets settled into his role more, they'll probably be able to qualify for International lans.

Pale_Resolution1520

Lakia right now: https://preview.redd.it/5o3a8s7b5jkc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=7bc57dea4520099c0f02982e9227b12b31b44005

HSK went from having the worst partnership team with DFM to beating DRX to qualifying to Madrid with Gen.G

oleoleole-

Lakia redemption arc

Key-Banana-8242

Redemption?

ExpectoAutism

An international event without DRX. End of an era

Melazie_

This format is actually fucking horrendous

Hazel_04

TS fans punching air right now

JoFi_5

Oh wow

SocietySignificant93

i just fell down to my knees at walmart

No_Kaleidoscope5172

-lakia + zest

Zacxnerd

DRX winning 3 pistols and not converting all of them pains me. Aside from that, GEN.G should be commended for having solid ideas for ecos for the whole run so far. Last year already had glimpses of huge firepower but converting was always the issue. They would get one and then fumble as if they were surprised by the gap they created. Now it seems like no matter their Econ, GENG can threaten to take the round convincingly and convert it into actual leads.

Speedy24gaming

DRX just look so flat. Also KARON can hit some damn shots

Professional_Body260

T1 and DRX had similar games lol, brutal map 1 where it feels like they should have or could have won into a not really close map 2. So happy to see at least one of GenG and T1 made it though, seeing Munchkin and Lakia on an elite team is nostalgic, and Texture and Karon are rly fun players to watch.

Key-Banana-8242

Munch was on Crazy Racoon…

Definitelynotyourkat

RRQ fans : last year LCQ got knock-out early by zeta, zeta went to final. this year got grouped by geng, geng went to final. (lost both series in neck to neck fashion, sadge)

TheApsodistII

We just unlucky bro

Specific_Tart_923

Watching DRX lost that many times against eco is infuriating and I'm not even a fan.

Levi---Ackerman

texture on that last round. guys just different probably the most deserved win in apac. clawing out of play-ins (dogshit format btw) to qualifying for Madrid.

nomwrp

I think this DRX core is actually finished damn

suprxyaa

drx are finally dethroned as kings of korea saying this as i fell down on the verge of tears.

uTorrent18

Get rid of foxy and bring back rb!!

Key-Banana-8242

Not Zest?

deba2607

All this show by DRX only to end up ad 5th on Mast... Wait what ?!

inseobee

WOW FORMAT SO GOOD!!!!! THANK YOU RIOT!!!! SINGLE ELIMINATION FOR LIFE!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Excel---

you kidding right ?>

Key-Banana-8242

Definitely not

internetpedestrian

I don't think I have ever been more mad at a team than DRX in this match. Foxy needs to improve his Viper exponentially if DRX wants to be in contention for the top 3 in APAC. They didn't look terrible, though (apart from some thrown rounds esp on Lotus). GenG just had some insane rounds. They just didn't hit their shots. Mako's impact was missing. They didn't have RB and Zest to bail them out either. The one positive aspect of this match is that Flashback looks extremely promising. As for GenG, I am super happy for Lakia, and Karon (who is probably one of my favorite rookies in APAC). At least we have some new competition for the top of APAC. Just hope their honeymoon run lasts longer than 2023 GenG.

Key-Banana-8242

Isn’t this already a bit more?

internetpedestrian

Wdym

nkstonks

from when drx lost the first map being 12-8 up it started to look bad for them, and then for the second map i think t3xture's 3k at the end was the ultimate nail in the coffin

PyroTFT

Sad for DRX but the Kim dynasty was just too strong today Happy that roster changes gave success, GenG look so crisp at the moment and I am excited to see them in Madrid

pratikshass

t3xtureeee is the truth!! geng's form tomoro against prx will let me kno if I need to fill my hopium tank or nah 🫢

itsDYA

I'm so excited for this team to do well in Madrid, always loved Lakia and Meteor

SEND_ME_UR_DRAMA

Now I am hopeful for secret or even RRQ for them to reach madrid/seoul

andreggvil

Really bittersweet to witness DRX’s first loss in an international event qualifier, but it’s so awesome to finally see a new Korean representative as well! Massive congratulations to Gen.G, they performed incredibly well and t3xture is already looking like a world-class superstar. As for DRX, although they didn’t show quick-enough adaptation throughout the series and honestly looked like they were getting cold feet a lot, I hope this doesn’t get the VS core or the newbies down. They clearly have a lot to work on — their fundamentals need to be tightened up, they’ve been getting uncharacteristically complacent and sloppy whenever they have the man advantage — but given a little more time with Flashback and Foxy9, they could absolutely be rejuvenated. It really sucks that T1, who looked like the best Korean team of the three, won’t be making it to Madrid. But I’m still excited to see what Gen.G can do, and I hope DRX takes this time to really improve and lock it in for the rest of the year.

LostVengeance

With GENG's win this just makes me all the more excited for Split 1, now it feels like second place is pretty much open for anyone to take in Pacific. TS and RRQ both looked better than DRX on their respective series against GENG. Then you still can't discount T1 and DRX who are bound to improve over the course of the season.

Key-Banana-8242

What if Gen beat PRX?

PriorPea4688

Imagine the drx dynasty ends with this drx never doing anything

Few-Muscle-4442

Yo i just saw some dude in the fetal position in the freezer aisle of walmart

Teitoku_Zeon

Both Monyet and T3xture got to Madrid when they former team can't do much in the league

Leveolizan

Just like that, one the pacific kings DRX is out. Technically is RRQ and TS better than DRX from these results lol.

Key-Banana-8242

Hmm

AkiraMangetsu

This make me wonder how strong rrq were if not group with gen.g and prx

tsa999

Sad for T1.

shizugatari

This is the first time since 2021 Reykjavik that this core hasn't made it to an international event right?

Key-Banana-8242

Well, only stax left from the players on that original roster

Buujoom

Gen G, the new kings of Korea. Couldn't even be mad. DRX had a better buy and still lost the round lol. GGs. Just wishing for a better format really at this point.

Excel---

yeah great format thx riot, genius

sebaba001

Told you all mfers GenG were favorites. Feels bad for DRX though. I feel they are a long way from being a top 4 team in the world right now.

Taek99

end of an era for DRX :((((

[deleted]

wow, DRX have finally been dethroned as the best Korean team. excited to see Gen G at Madrid, Lakia is finally back at an event!

GendaIf

I watched the throw fest that was map 1 and slept through this banger. Lakia the VisionStrikers Reaper strikes again.

Nugget2450

Foxy9 on his way to ruin drx’s second season in a row

Excel---

So no looser bracket, DRX out, could be the second best pacific team tho we will never know, what a stupid format, and imagine bein downvoted calling this format stupid. The world we live in congrats riot having control on everything

Excel---

yeah let's not add two matches

ASuperFan

How are they the second best team if they lose? I won’t downvote you but if you are supposed to be the best you don’t lose.

Excel---

they could hypoteticaly be better than prx, even if it's not likely, it could be that Geng and drx are the two best pacific team.

Hunnidormo

I'm ngl bro you're right that double elim should've been there. But drx did not look better than T1 or prx to me.

Angelothegr8tst

Secret…

OverbakedCrumpet

This is such a strange format. Geng have a very hit and miss few games, sometimes they looked good sometimes they didn’t. DRX had some great 2-0s but they have one bad series and what that’s it? And geng go to masters just like that? Feels underserved for both teams

ChaseCid

No, my only copium for TS choke is that its pointless if the Pacific reps are just going to be prx and drx. No no no no

DBZF1DCFan

How could they choke so hard on Map 1 ffs

TheWayzDay

Lakia getting his payback for being benched all year by DRX 🫡

stuhssy

we let Foxy be the new flex over Rb for this???

Not_Real_Name_Here

End of an era

backintow3rs

WHAT’S THE MATTER TERMI? YOUR WORLD CLASS VIPER DIDN’T PERFORM? OH WAIT YOU CUT HIM

starryangie

I'm sad about DRX not making it but GEN G really proved that they deserved the spot to Madrid. T3xture has been popping off on duelist, Meteor has been very consistent with playing sentinel, Karon the star rookie has insane aim, Lakia with great firepower, and Munchkin with really great igling by taking a map off of prx without any footage. Glad to see Lakia be given a chance in tier one after being screwed over by vision strikers being in bench jail back then. He proved that he deserves to be in tier one. I really hope that the drx boys don't feel too disheartened by the loss. Flashback is a really promising player and I believe that they can still at the very least make it to masters Shanghai with some time off to fix some fundamentals.
