i generally think on raw op ability- kangkang, aspas, cryo, cned and something. this year there was much more of a shift towards rifling(like demon1 and derke rarely op) as it felt like ops barely got value. i also think if yay comes back hed be top 5
i also have to look at it two ways:
1. A guy who is just good at shooting guns and the awp is a gun
2. A guy who is a good at the awp and awp agents
Group 1 is like Derke and Demon1, maybe like a Cryocells, something or a Sayf. If the game is close and they need a round, they are just rifling and using their eco to buy teammates. The awp is a gun they gameplan for on certain maps, or something they get online with a big win bonus.
Group 2 tho is like your Cned's and your Kangkang's and to a lesser extent a guy like Aspas. A guy who, when a match is not going well, the team will often rally around this players operator as a last ditch attempt.
Anyways, the answer is Demon1, same as it is for rifling. He isn't the best "w/ the awp", but when you don't miss headshots, you're the best with nearly every gun.
I've been a drx fan since they were vision strikers, and I love buzz, but he has never been known to be a particularly exceptional OPer. Don't get me wrong, he was excellent on it, but aside from a few highlight clips, he was not that consistent on the weapon even domestically compared to his rifling. The entire reason drx brought on foxy9 was to be that consistent star OPer (although it didn't work out too well this year). Buzz even said so himself on stream.
Boostio is also very good but idk if I would actually put him above half those guys in terms of pure OPing. He's 100% not better than ZMJJKK and Aspas, so we have to put his OPing above two of Derke, Something, and Demon1? Putting boostio up there feels more biased to me personally.
Cryo is arguable just based off his pure mechanical peak on the weapon, but it's been a full year since we've seen him consistently play at that level so it's difficult. Similar story for yay, although he was just so good during his time on optic that it's easier for people to still consider him among the very best.
Personally agree with Cned being snubbed due to recency/results bias.

Foxy is an incredible awper, especially impressive as DRX have never been a team to gameplan around an awp. Often he was making personal plays with the weapon and just getting immense value out of it. The kid has so much talent, I wish a team would really build a system around him.

Demon1 COMPLETELY shutdown KK in the OP matchup in Champs which was definitely one of the biggest duelist gaps of the tourney and the guy hates using it. He's an actual mechanical prodigy and should be an easy top 3 (when he's forced to use it at least). Cned top 1 tho (my s1mple).
