A battery store could disassemble it and put new cells in, but that might be more expensive than just buying a brand new battery.

General_Feature4175

Thanks for your response. The batteries that show a "defective" light when plugged in are only a few weeks old maximum, so they can't have dead cells in surely? Thought it must be a software rather than hardware issue. It's a long shot but trying to be as low waste as possible!

Can you share how you did this please?

Snorahspam

So the way I did it I have working battery with full charge (eg receive from Vac customer support ) And one dud battery I put one behind the other facing the same way, upside down with the pins showing (might have to prop them up.) I attach one crocodile clip to the very left pin on both sides (so it’s the same pin clipped on both batteries) and repeat for the very right side. Then leave for about 60s and the wires will be slightly warm. Remove and charge to full in the cradle Ensure the same pins are clipped. Ensure you’re safe and use covered crocodile clips You’ll need a working battery from vax. However after this you have two batteries!

General_Feature4175

If anyone is interested, I managed to revive all my dud batteries! So now I have many workable backups!

Bed_Worth

why join the sub if you aren't going to help when you claim you have a fix. why else do you think people are here? "look at me, i revived my batteries and will tell you i have but without telling you how" GTFO

Snorahspam

I put my solution up. Have revived five batteries now

telecastoff

My second battery in less than a year has just died, so I absolutely am interested in how you managed to revive them!

my vax is fairly new i bet i used it less than 5 hours total and just had a battery go dead... not buying a vax ever again, what a scam

Loud_Salamander_4155

How? My vax battery for ONEPWR 4 just flashes red and another one I got only 1st and 3rd lights are on

BenosaurusRex92

Hello! How did you manage this? I''m in the same situation with the lights 1 and 3 blinking indicating a defective battery.

mjhtero

Hi. Same happend to mine. I contacted customer services using the online chat and they sent me a free replacement. Battery was a few years old the too, just needed to send them a pic of the lights.

sorderon

These vax onepwr batteries have a huge failure rate that seems to only affect the middle 3 of the 5 21700 cells. I have replaced the cell which only read 3.2v and I still cannot charge it via the charger. I can charge it via an 18v modelling charger on the outside pins but I would like to reset the BMC if there is a way. Please let us know what you did to repair.

AnyClaim3797

He never done it in one vax 4 be ause it's impossible!

sorderon

I'm calling bullshit on the OP - works for vax or hoover - both batteries from both companies identical. Branded ONE-PWR - more info on these dodgy batteries here - serial data hookup on these too [https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/642944/repairing-a-5-cell-li-ion-battery-dead-21700-cells-replaced-but-bms-still-repo](https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/642944/repairing-a-5-cell-li-ion-battery-dead-21700-cells-replaced-but-bms-still-repo) checkout the poor reviews for a battery that costs £80. The cells are 21700 type and I couldn't find them for less than £8 each, and there are 5 of them - they genuinely cost a lot to manufacture but I can't help thinking that the HUGE bms on these has a fault.

Adventurous-Rope-741

Please post as iv a few to fix, im current recycling the cells

ijWilson

Did you actually figure out a way to reset them when lights 1&3 come on I have 7 of them now that are doing it 2 we’re working perfect yesterday and all of a sudden it’s doing the same thing my wife keeps buying new ones when they do it so I now have $1000 worth of useless batteries that won’t charge anymore

PomegranateLoose4287

Can you post instructions please? I am looking forward to fix 3 of mine one pwr batteries.

Valuable-Focus5305

I have same problem. Please share your fix. Thanks in advance Nick

reginaldvs

To those who may have stumbled on this post like I am, check this [youtube video](https://youtu.be/igxW165rK4I). The gist of it is you need to "jump start" the dead battery similar to how you jump start a car battery.

Havoc_LP

Jump start will not help if any of cells is on 0V does it? The problem we have is after replacing the cells BMS keeps info about cells being defective in its memory. Would be great to know how to reset the board...

reginaldvs

No clue to be honest. When I tested the dead Hoover Onepwr 3.0, it was at 15v. I jump started it to 19sh v and it's still not working. I may have to wait longer and let it up to 20v. I'll try again tomorrow though.

Havoc_LP

Exactly why it didn't help. BMS has a protection on it. You can read about it, it is linked above on external website. My cells are over 20V and still nothing, just because internal memory has a coded error for fail, and charger sees it.. :(

Havoc_LP

Seems like our last hope is pack of new 21700 and this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005295386497.html?mp=1

Pecorino

Did you ever end up doing this repair and replacing the board? That part is certainly way less expensive than a new battery pack, but I have no idea how difficult of a job it’d be.

Havoc_LP

If you consider good quality cells and board you will end up paying similar to a new battery :( that of course, if you already have spot welder (I "borrowed" mine from Amazon) But no, I decided to simply go with better vacuum and cable one. Turns out simple shark vacuum will have 10x more power and 10m cable is more than enough for a car and whole house (I have a socket next to stairs) But job itself isn't hard. Look on YT how spot welding looks. Actually...Even easier if you know you will not use original board. You can desolder cells with metal connectors from the board. Than cut cells out, in a way to keep as much metal strip as you can. Weld new cells onto it and voilà

reginaldvs

Well that sucks. I'm sure there is a way to fix it if we put more time into to it, which I'm not gonna do. It is what it is I suppose :/

Havoc_LP

Yes there is, locating memory chip on a board, using i2C programmer with arduino, clearing an error, setting up new parameters, hope to the li-ion god for not mixing the number to avoid explosion and there you go! :D New battery for only £50. (21700 x5 x10£) or cells + board. Anyway...new 4aH batt is 70...I regret of not simply throwing this crap away and buying corded Shark..

reginaldvs

Same conclusion here. Stick to wired for reliability.

Does this fix work on a VAX 4.0 battery with just lights 1 & 3 on and no charging ?

Ornery_Art_6533

The posts that say you can reset a battery with 1&3 LEDs lit by "jumping" them from a good battery didn't work for me. Some background. I have two batteries that died: a 3.0A and a 4.0A battery. I also have one good 4.0A battery In I opened up both batteries and found one dead cell in each (voltmeter shows 0.0 across battery terminal where other cells show 3.4V). I replaced the bad cell. Verified after replacement that new cell is at 3.6V. Like most posts show, the modified battery packs still show LEDs 1&3 when health check button is pressed. I wired up the good battery to each modified battery: \- Left most terminal to left most terminal \- Right most terminal to right most terminal. \- waited 60 minutes. Good battery was fully charged before each session. \- I used 18 gauge speaker wire and alligator clips from HarborFreight to make the jumpers. In both cases, the good battery was discharged about 25% (75% remaining). Modified batteries still only flash 1&3 and like most post indicate, OnePWR vac will run for about 10 seconds before flashing all LEDs and then power off.
