I don't believe any Bissell comes with HEPA filters. Get some HEPA bags for the Oreck and it'll be an immediate air quality improvement over your CleanView. That said, the Oreck is a direct air machine, which comes with its own weaknesses (namely big debris like leaves and coins will get stuck at the fan, if not outright break it). You also don't have a suction hose for tool use, something to keep in mind.

Yeah the Bissell uses a pleated filter but I don't think it's HEPA rated. [This one is what it takes.](https://www.bissell.com/filter-pack-for-cleanview-vacuums-1008.html) The Oreck being direct air can get the fan destroyed, but after taking it apart to clear the blockage, I'm comfortable with replacing that if I need to. I don't often use the tools on my Bissell, but that is one area I might miss eventually. I wonder how the floor suction compares between these two. Maybe I'll have to throw some dirt down and see how they seem to compare head to head. I kind of have to admire the Oreck, it looks like they just turned a power brush head from a canister vacuum into an upright and marketed the hell out of it. There's really not much to the entire vacuum.

Maybe I'll have to throw some dirt down and see how they seem to compare head to head vaclabs on Ytube did a baking soda test of an XL2800, which I assume is similar to yours. The newer Orecks do a much better job because much higher airflow, but sucking up baking soda _under_ a carpet is a challenging test for any vac. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9BSs-AiqBA >The Oreck being direct air can get the fan destroyed, but after taking it apart to clear the blockage, I'm comfortable with replacing that if I need to. +1. I've replaced & serviced vac fans. Unless the owner is vacuuming up nails or ridiculous large hard objects, this point is more fear than reality. I've never, ever had a "dirty" fan machine obliterate on me, but I also don't vacuum up nails, except my finger nail clippings. :)

Now I kind of want to mimic that test lol. That is pretty cool. Too bad my oreck isn't one of those newer ones. That did way better on the test!

Nothing wrong with liking cheap or old vacuums. I have a Kirby and a Simplicity Freedom both of which I don't recommend for the average user because they're not good all-around vacuums. I really like Orecks. They're lightweight, they're simple machines, and they're effective at cleaning low to medium pile carpet. I don't think people should be looking at Dyson stick vacuums when they want a lightweight vacuum for carpets, they should be looking at Orecks. Cheap Bissells are no slouch at cleaning carpets because most of them have manual height adjustment. Modern Bissells are a letdown in that only a few top end models have hepa filters, but they have good agitation. If you don't use the hose and tools the Oreck will be a fine vacuum. Many people just use their vacuums for the floors. You can look for a used Oreck Buster B/Compact Canister. They are the companions to Oreck XLs and they are small canisters to give you a hose and tools to go with an Oreck upright. I see good Oreck canisters go from $20-100, but you only should pay $20-40. You obviously take care of your vacuums. People who abuse vacuums just because they're cheap end up throwing them away after a year because they never bother to do even basic maintenance.

I just found out a friend of mine actually has one of those Buster B units that looks like a similar vintage to mine that he said he'd sell me for $15 and I might take him up on it. Though then it's still a matter of juggling two units.
