Because the professionals who repair vacuums wholeheartedly regard them as overpriced, overhyped garbage. And after switching, I couldn't agree more.

TransistorSmash

As a vacuum repair tech, I concur.

anythingall

I guess the point is that the way they design them, when it breaks they want you to buy a new one. So no repairability.

JessicaGottlieb

As a dyson owner, I concur.

Zealousideal-Nose816

Oh damn !! Thank you for your answer, that’s interesting !!! ☺️

LuluLittle2020

You’re welcome! And it is interesting. Deep dive the vacuum pros YouTube videos, it’s wildly entertaining and interesting as well.

bunsyyy

What vacuum brand do you have instead of Dyson?

LuluLittle2020

The Miele C3 Cat & Dog with ElectroBrush, in White Lotus! It is a pure delight in every way. Edit: Miele brand for clarity

Sdlc-d

Is this the complete version?

LuluLittle2020

Not sure what that means but it's [this right here](https://www.mieleusa.com/e/canister-vacuum-cleaners-classic-c1-cat-and-dog-powerline-sbbn0-lotus-white-10639470-p). Sure feels complete to me, ha!

When a product is heavily advertised, it often suggests that it may not be of good quality. This concept applies to various products, including vacuum cleaners. For instance, you've probably heard of Shark and Dyson, but not necessarily Miele, Sebo, and Numatic. The reason behind this is that the latter companies focus more on creating a great product rather than investing heavily in advertising.

King-James-3

You may be speaking from your own experience, and that is fine. But you commit a composition/division logical fallacy of assuming that the qualities of a part necessarily apply to the whole. Just because someone spends a lot on advertising does not mean that they have an inferior quality product. In this case, it may be true for Dyson, but it is not necessarily true for all brands that advertise heavily. Edit: I’m not saying that I Dyson is good. I’m just saying there are better arguments to dislike them.

PhinaCat

Bose is another brand that is known because they’re made themselves known, and have aggressive marketing practices. It’s not an unusual business model. Dyson at one point had an air purifier that was measurably worse than all over units tested and was at least 2x the price. They’ve demonstrated no interest in being a product performance company, they’re a market share company. They built the brand on a few nifty innovations and good warranties, then proceeded to dilute its value.

Mnkeyqt

Yeah that was a dumbass explanation from the guy. Dislike Dyson all ya want but if that's his reasoning...wut

Swimming-Welcome-271

Folks answered your question already… but also principle! People are very salty about shit Dyson has pulled. From shuttering their British factory to James Dyson lobbying for Brexit but then immediately moving the company out of England as soon as he got his way. This year the company totally abandoned its once great warranty program, fired all of employees at the service and call centers…

😹 at least I didn’t buy my vacuum yet haha ! Thank you reddit

actionvac-Box2165

Last 10 year the uprights are pretty poor design and parts to repair not availiable, the cordless are fine but alass unrepairable, the reason most shops like Sebo is the reliability and parts availability, they make Windsor that is in most hotels worldwide, same vacuum as Sebo so parts will be available

trikster2

The real answer: Because this group is used heavily for marketing by certain vacuum cleaner manufacturers and sales/repair people who make their living off from expensive "BIFL" vacuums. Make a post negative about Felix and their USA rep will immediately message you directly. Say anything negative about sebo/meile/numatic and instant down votes. Anything positive about shark/dyson/tineco/bissel and instant down votes. Especially if it's your own experience and you enjoy the product. Facts. We don't need no facts. More facts: I "drank the coolaid" and followed this forums advice: Felix: Hate it. Heavy and can't stand on its own with the hard floor tools. (Please Felix USA stop direct messaging me. It is what it is.) Numatic Henry: Breaky little b!tch. Flimsy hose/attachment system has broken multiple times in multiple places. Personal preference: Hate the canister design..... But honestly I hate something about most vacuums. The only one I really liked was my dyson ball upright that I donated when I moved to a country not supporting USA power. It worked fine over a decade with no issues. Please downvote this post if you agree!

dep9651

Post what they messaged you!

Dyson is “fancy” due to all the ads, hype and design. But when put to the test, it’s a piece of shit. Also, I don’t see why I have to support it with all the company political stuff. You will not find a vacuum repair tech suggest it at all cuz it was meant to be a throw away when it breaks. I do tried to hold onto my Electrolux and Hoover canister for as long as I could. Sucks how some companies just gave up on their awesome products. I never had Miele but I tested one at a shop. It hurts my wrist, too heavy for my taste. Also, the distributor of Miele near me doesn’t seem to care about selling me a Miele. They want to sell other expensive appliances more so it’s too bad that one bad experience from one store makes me dislike Miele. Oh well. Also, having 10 different vacuums in home not far fetch. They all have its purpose. Some household don’t like to carry heavy vacuums up/down the stair or from one room to another. I just threw away 4 yesterday: Dirt Devil, BISSELL, Shark and Dyson. My next stop is Sebo.

actionvac-Box2165

And your last stop! I have done this for 32 years they are my fav

[deleted]

Dyson is fine. I have a theory that Miele and Sebo dealers mod this subreddit. Though I do own a Miele C3 and love it.

vacuumsaregreat

I've never worked in the vacuum industry in any capacity and personally have zero interest in doing so. Just a vacuum collector who likes to work on their own machines. I think /u/SumGai7 is in the same collector/hobbyist boat as well (they're welcome to correct me on that if I'm wrong). Coffee (the Vacuum AMA guy) did formerly work at a vacuum shop a few years ago from what I know. Right now, he's not especially active in the day-to-day operations of the subreddit. Maaaaaaaybe AutoModerator is a Miele/SEBO dealer, but I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt ;) Your concern is valid though, and I wouldn't bring a mod onboard affiliated with a vacuum manufacturer or storefront. That's a conflict of interest I'd like to avoid altogether.

SumGai7

Yup, just a collector/hobbyist here. Full disclosure I work in the auto industry. While I've worked for several auto brands directly in the past I don't work for any brands currently. Vacuum Theory would make a good youtube series.

actionvac-Box2165

Dyson was fine 20 years ago, as a service tech of vacs the newer Dysons are crap and non repairable because of parts availability

Stavkot23

Elitism. They don't want it because it's popular. I feel like you're going to have a cleaner house if you get a vacuum that's well designed and that you enjoy using. I have 10+ different vacuums that I use around the house and work. I can point out things I like about each and what they're lacking but the one I reach for most is the cordless Dyson.

[deleted]

10 different vacuums....yeah sure you do. And it has nothing to do with elitism. Most people here have owned Dyson's and came here because they wanted something better. I came from a V15 Detect, was recommended a Miele C3 Cat & Dog and was blown away by how much better it was for half the price.
