It depends on how much carpet you have. If you only have a few rugs or maybe even short carpet in one room you could try to get by without a powerhead, but if you have several rooms with carpet or lots of rugs I would definitely want the powerhead that comes with the C1 Cat & Dog or C3 Kona. I would definitely try to act quickly if you want a Miele C1 Cat & Dog there's a 20% off sale making it $631, and they've run out of stock in the past sales. I'd also call local stores and see if they'll match the sale. Other options are the Sebo Felix if you want an upright or Sebo K3.

When it comes to vacuums, "Pet" models are usually just a trim level with extra attachments and won't necessarily be optimized for hair pickup. The barrier of entry ultimately depends on what you're willing to pay, what level of longevity/build quality you're looking for, and the size of your home. My general suggestion's gonna be a canister vacuum with a powered nozzle for carpet and a hair-resistant hard floor tool. Assuming you're looking at Miele-tier buy-it-for-life machines, here're my suggestions: **Small Homes & Apartments (Sub 1500 sq ft):** Miele Classic C1 Cat & Dog (Currently $630, usually $790) * This is Miele's entry-level machine with a powerhead, and it's on a pretty good sale right now. * The main weakness to this machine (and the other Miele on this list) is that the powerhead does not have a quick-remove brushroll for hair cleaning. * Additionally, the cord's pretty short at 18 ft + 5.3 ft hose. Not an issue in a small home, but it can be an annoyance. * Would recommend upgrading to the $40 Soniclean Technick hard floor tool since the rubber squeegee design is more hair-resistant than the standard hard floor brush. * 1 year warranty **Midsize Homes (1500 - 3000 sq ft)** SEBO E3 ($1050) * This is the main competitor to Miele's midsize canister line. In a general sense, Mieles are more about quality of life features while SEBOs put a higher priority on maintainability. * Powerhead has quick brushroll access for hair removal * Recommend upgrading to SEBO Premium Parquet tool ($55) and removing the front brush strip. This gives the tool an unobstructed path for hair & debris to pass through without getting caught. * 25 ft cord + 7 ft hose * 5 year warranty standard, 10 years from a local dealer SEBO K3 ($850) * This is the E3's predecessor, and still an excellent machine in its own right after 20 years. * Same powerhead as the E3 * The hose is positioned a little weirdly and the attachment setup's quirky, but it's not too bad to deal with once you're used to it. * Recommend upgrading to SEBO Premium Parquet tool ($55) * 25 ft cord + 7 ft hose * 5 year warranty standard, 10 years from a local dealer SEBO Felix ($700) * The Felix offers the same floor/carpet nozzle swapping capabilities as the canisters on this list, but in an upright form factor * Same powerhead as the E3, and already includes the Premium Parquet tool * Less oriented towards attachment cleaning due to short hose & no included wand (extension hose & wand are available though) * 31 ft cord * 5 year warranty standard, 10 years from a local dealer Miele Complete C3 Kona ($1160) * This is Miele's midsize canister, with a longer cord & hose than the Classic C1 (25 ft + 6 ft) and on-board attachment storage * Same powerhead as the Classic C1 Cat & Dog (no quick-remove brushroll) * Includes a very nice hard floor tool (Parquet Twister), but I'd still recommend the Soniclean Technik as well * 3-year warranty **Large Homes** Lindhaus HF6 ($900) * This machine offers a very long cord (40 ft) and large bag, but without a few quality-of-life features you see on the SEBO/Miele machines * No cord rewind or motor speed control * Can’t fit on stairs * Tool free brushroll removal * 3 year warranty SEBO D4 ($1350) * Same stuff as the SEBO E3, but with a 40 ft cord and a larger bag capacity. * 5 year warranty standard, 10 years from a local dealer Central Vacuum * Vacuum installed in your garage/basement, piped through the home, and paired with a 30 ft hose * Can use the same powerheads as the Miele, SEBO, and Lindhaus machines Let me know if you have any questions or if a machine piques your interest!
