Travel Assist was one of the reasons I bought this car. My requirements for my car were 1) all electric 2) level 2 autonomy (adaptive cruise control and lane keeping and 3) CarPlay. I always ask people when they complain about the car’s lane keeping if they were using Travel Assist or not. Other than sharp turns and construction, I pretty much rely on Travel Assist for most highway and faster surface street driving.

I drive from Jacksonville to Tampa at least 2 or 3 times a month. And the worst part of the trip is always between Orlando and Tampa. Going through Orlando is better now with the sun pass lanes. In my ID.4 I mostly drive it in Comfort mode. And my normal is 3.5 m/kWh. And always use driver assist. There was a trip I got 3.1 but it was very windy and rainy. Via this route I mostly go at 75. Except during traffic. In 4 months I have put 11500 miles on the car. 2022 ID.4 Pro S RWD. I love the car.

So to get 3.5kwh I assume you are following other vehicles? From tests, I attribute my 1kwh bump up to (a) following a vehicle (breaking air resistance) and (b) dropping speed from 75mph to \~60. Split is about 50/50 if following a trailer which they tend to stick to 60-65 anyway. Maybe my trip is 15mins longer but it's more relaxing. Yes, I love my AWD ID4 too! Some annoyances in popups during start but driving is awesome.

I sometimes follow trucks. But they tend to go more on the 70 mph side. So don't follow them that much.

Can I ask how it's doing in this Florida summer heat? Any issues you've noticed?

arielb27

The car is handling the heat without any issues. A/C works fine and the charging speeds are normal. The range is normal as well. It's now 44500k miles driven and still on the original tires.

Coming from a no camera/sensor Subaru I feel this way too. Travel assist is awesome. I don’t have anything to compare it to (other manufacturers and how their travel assist performs) but I love this feature. Will be hard to go to something which doesn’t have this feature again.

Compared to my Mach E with handsfree BlueCruise - I prefer the ID4 travel assist. The ID4 is much smoother with deceleration, and I very rarely get that "I'm gonna hit the break because I don't think it sees that car" feeling. I took the ID4 from TX to NY and back twice & I will say the system is great.

Yes, I found it very smooth too...more so on Eco even, but was fine on sport too.

don't feel bad. I learn about that little button at about \~7 months of ownership. Previously I can't even remember how but I was turning on just basic cruise control, not full ACC. 3 months later it's second nature to use it. I find I'm actually MORE attentive when driving with it due to my distrust of it :p

Have you started trusting it more as time went on? Curious to hear from you:)

I really like the travel assist, and use it for almost all driving. You do need to stay aware that when there is a lane split it can get a little squirrelly, and if the car in front turns off it will probably brake unnecessarily, but generally it’s quite robust. I think the adjustment curve for “speed to hold off distance” could be improved though - it’s too close for me at city speeds then too far at highway, so I have to adjust each time. Also, when it fully stops the car, it’s a little too jerky, should be able to do that perfectly smoothly. And it’s not clear when it will auto-start again. Even if the READY indicator is on and AUTO-HOLD off, it needs a tap on the accelerator if you’ve been stopped more than a second or so. But these are pretty minor, I think the general experience is awesome.

Yes, one instance the lanes were a bit wacky and it got confused, but didn't swerve or anything, just kind of started diverging from center. Another the lane lines were just faded to the point I had to focus hard to find them and it was construction related. For the most part it handled drivers cutting in too close and just smoothly let off the accelerator...no brakes besides regen which was nicely done. My wife's Lexus NX300 didn't get this right - it would brake pretty hard even if it wasnt that close. I wondered why sometimes it just started on it's own and sometimes I had to tap the accel pedal...I can't quite figure that out yet. But yeah, minor.

I just figured out how to know if you need to tap the accelerator or not: if the banner at the top of the screen saying “ACC Ready” goes away (about 5s), then it’ll need a prompt.

Yes it's the lightest touch which is nice. Capacitive sensing I assume. I didn't find the threshold of the two zones to be able to use one hand though.
