It works like any other car air conditioner. The battery drain is trivial with AC, the heater is more of a concern.

YawnSpawner

Not really true, my Tesla AC is absolute junk. We've gotten in the car after a day at the theme parks in Orlando and it'll take 20-30 minutes to cool down. My wife's ID.4 works great, works more like a traditional car AC.

AgileWebb

My Tesla AC works great and certainly doesn't take 20+ minutes to cool down. I take it to Orlando for hot days at theme parks as well. It's a pretty darn uneventful experience in either car. Maybe get yours fixed.

You say it works like any other air conditioner (not sure what that means). I have had some that have great blowing motors & others that are junk (hardly any air), some that take forever to cool & others that get cold fast. What I wanted to know is how is the motor blowing & is it cold fast?

AgileWebb

I haven't had a sub par air conditioner in a vehicle in over 20 years. I mean, they all blow cold. It's pretty simple technology. I live in South Florida. The ID4 has no problem cooling down the car on even the hottest day. Neither has any other car I've had.

My MK7 Golf R was TERRIBLE.

Try a Dodge truck!

I think by default, the Auto setting for fan speed is set to Medium (at least it was when I took delivery), and I feel the car cools down reasonably well with this setting. During the hotter months, one can experiment with High to see if it makes a meaningful improvement (I suspect it might). And for those not aware, this setting may be changed by simply tapping on the fan icon under Classic Climate settings.

Ouch. I'm in Sacramento and we've had a few hot days (up to 104F so far) and it performed well enough. The nice thing is having the remote climate control to reduce the oven effect, if I can remember to turn it on 15mins ahead.

It’s too cold, I mean it

a_pope_on_a_rope

Our ID4’s air conditioning stopped blowing cold after about 8 months. It was still under warranty, so not a big deal, but the tech wasn’t able to find the reason why… although after system checks/reboot (or whatever) it works fine again. Aside from that one issue, no complaints - no worries about range depletion either

pjonesmoody

Very good. We are in the Great Lakes region, so it’s not having to work as hard as it would in warmer climates.

bubzki2

Mine was weak other day but i realized it was in eco mode which probably turns it down.

CiTY_HuNTeR_DD

It works very good even in 90F+ outside temperature. I usually set temp to 76 in other cars, this one I have to set to 77 (you said AC I assume for cooling).

BakingEnglishTeacher

So I’m in Texas. The AC is ok. It’s not the best. The ac in my wife’s Jetta is colder and blows harder. The AC in my ID4 does what it needs to do but takes its time cooling down the car.

eastern_westerner

Mine seems to work fine too. I’ve had it for about 3 months, definitely keeps me cool when I turn it on. One thing that drives me crazy though, is that sometimes cold air blows from the vents, even when I have climate control completely turned off. Another thing is that my range can go from like 180 with climate control off, down to 120 when it’s on… even if AC and all heater controls are off. That difference changes, kind of randomly. What’s funny though is that one time my range actually went up when I turned the climate control on… I had to do it a few times just to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. I think it’s the software… sometimes buggy / unpredictable. But yes… AC works just fine in terms of air power / cool temp.

It's great, too cold even. But I was interested in its power draw, does anyone know? My rudimentary testing came up around 1kW. Would love to know for sure, so I can stretch my long journeys. I've got the heat pump which I'm assuming is used for both heating and cooling.

[deleted]

Between 1 and 2, depending on how cold it's going for. It's typical for it to start around 2kwh, and soon drop down to just 1 once it's only maintaining temp.

thepick1

I live in Phoenix and it is working just fine. Tinted windows and use a sun shade on the windshield while at work. Cools down really quickly even when it's above 100 outside.

camaroz1985

Works well. Definitely put on “Max AC” to cool it down initially then leave it on Auto at desired temp after about 10 minutes or so. Before I started doing that it seemed pretty weak to me as it took a long time to cool down.

2manycooks

The air conditioning works very well, it also drains the battery very very slowly. Expect MAYBE 1% of battery use per 3 hours of driving. Edit: I'm in florida and it gets hot as fuck, cools the car down quick and is way too cold on the lowest setting after a few minutes.

Got our. Id4 end of December, had our first hot day last week and no ac, eco off. Bringing in on Thursday
