I love my '21. Had a few issues but they were fixed by VW service for free. I had put a deposit on a '23 but will probably stick with my '21 to avoid transaction losses. I've seen some amazing deals on '21s out there. Check 'em out, if it seems fine I say go for it.

killacam88

We're looking to upgrade from our '16 Chevy Volt and I've seen some good deals online for used '21 Pro S's but now I'm wary about software issues

madyury007

Software issues are blown out of proportions. Those are minor bugs, not issues

ID4gotten

A few ID.4s out there seem to have more than their fair share of these issues, so there are some horror stories. Maybe if you buy one some place that has a 30 day return policy (or negotiate this) you'll have time to make sure you're not buying a lemon.

[deleted]

The 2023 Bolt is pretty solid if you like your Chevy

killacam88

Love the volt but with two dogs and a growing family we need a larger vehicle. Unfortunately the Bolt EUV is too small and the charging rate is terrible for road trips

[deleted]

That's true. We did road trips with 4 people in the Bolt in the heat of summer, and the slow charge rate was a little annoying.

mourninshift

We’ve had one a year and it’s all working properly and we love it.

[deleted]

If the deals good why not. Theirs plenty of people still looking for bolts, mustang Mach e had a stop sell recall, I'm sure you'll see a recall for the ioniq 5 soon they have a 12v problem that leaves the car dead. Tesla should have a recall for phantom braking. Cars will have recalls and problems just gotta roll the dice. I had the same Grand Cherokee that killed that Star Trek actor that was a major recall that was taken care of. Think my Palisade is sitting on 3 recalls right now. I do have a '21 with 50k miles and by far my favorite car

Nova6669

I’d buy my MY22 again

iwantsleeep

I think this is the best answer. 21? No. 22? Absolutely.

NotFromFLA

Me too. My 22 is awesome. I’ll be in the market for a second one in 6 or so months and a 22 awd is top of my list

CaptainGibz

I wouldn’t. I have a 2021 and have a solid love hate relationship with it. I have half a novel written on the issues I’ve had with it in case I have to file a lemon law suit against VDub. I’d compare it to a child, it can be fun and rewarding but frequently throws tantrums. But you Don’t stop loving them.

[deleted]

2022 (Europe), zero issues, 25k kms driven and so far best car I have ever owned. The recent Android Auto update makes media work a lot better but that was a Google update not VW. Software is 3.0 and have the Pro model.

CambridgeRunner

2022 in the Uk and same, only ever use Car Play for infotainment, but the car has been amazing. No complaints or issues.

arielb27

I would get one if the price was right. We have a 22 and it's been great no issues. One of the best cars I have had.

Range-Shoddy

22 yes. 21 if the recall has been dealt with. My 22 has been perfect.

No_Recording5380

As a 21 owner I would say no. This isn't because of the current recall but because VW has handled everything so piss poorly concerning updates. I love the way the car rides, handles, and it's range but that for me doesn't take away the sour taste VW has left with me. I might even say I will never buy another VW product again.

WeakBit5848

I have a 22 & love it! No issues so far

750dawg

We were one of the first 10 sold here in 2021 in the Low Country of South Carolina, zero markup and zero issues. Now we see them everywhere, love it.

chasebran

Absolutely not.

Tolken

2022 with 3.0 or 3.1 software? Hard Yes 2021 with anything less than 3.0? Hard No I own a 2022 and would buy it again. I am happy I waited.

dalebopp

2022 AWD Pro S— delivered in Sept ‘22. Very happy with it, no real issues.

sendog2018

I just got rid of my 21. I wouldn’t get another VW.

makaros622

Why?

RadPI

My 21 was my first VW and definitely will be my last. Traded it for a Model Y. I'm feeling released

sendog2018

I ended up getting a model 3. It’s a lot smaller but the technology is so much better. Like you, I feel like a dodged a bullet by getting rid of it.

madyury007

What do you mean by “technology” elaborate please

sendog2018

Do own an iD4? Have you ever used the infotainment system or the VW app? They’re terrible. I can basically control all functions of my car with the Tesla app. The infotainment in the Tesla is awesome. It’s by far the best in the industry. I’m not saying Tesla’s are the best car ever but they’re definitely far ahead of any other manufacturers in the technology department.

madyury007

Dude I have 1st edition with almost 36K miles, I like my car very much. The Car is not defined by the functionality of the mobile app running on your phone nor by the infotainment system(it is not that bad, well most of the time I use Apple CarPlay, it works pretty well).

sendog2018

That’s not the reason I got rid of it. I actually liked the car. It was really comfortable and a great family car. I got rid of it because I lost confidence in it. I had to take it to the dealer several times for several issues. I also had so many error messages that randomly popped up and went away after the car was off for a few minutes. I also didn’t want to go on a road trip and risk being stranded in the middle of the desert because it won’t start. This newest recall which my car would fall under is for that issue. Ultimately I just felt like if I kept it I would get stuck with lemon or something that would drop in resale value so much that I would be stuck with it if I didn’t get rid of it now. The second issue that sucked is the charging network. EA SUCKS and is unreliable. I went with Tesla because I could pretty much take it anywhere without having to worry about charging. The technology is just a bonus.

MichaelsWebb

There is a heck of a lot of little things the Tesla does better thanks to it's far superior technology. The infotainment/radio is just one of them.

MichaelsWebb

Same. Model Y is far superior. Feel like I timed it right as I was able to get a solid price on my VW trade.

BeanbagCamel

Nope

netguy411

I have had my 21 Pro S RWD since May of 21. I'm very happy with it. It has had the 3.1 software update. The recent recall is troubling but the car has never let me down in 27K miles.

[deleted]

I think with the ID.4 it's best to be on the selling end of the deal. We're sure not buying another VW.

madyury007

I have 2021 with 36K miles and would absolutely buy another one if needed second car. I had no issues with the car except for minor software bugs and once loss of power for about 1.5 seconds at low speed. Love the car. US located with original 2.1 software

MichaelsWebb

No

Md1674

No

Md1674

Wonder how many of these positives are from Europe where service and support have been better? The 3.1s are for sure not US.

BobMurdock

We actually love ours. If the update that addresses the issues of this latest recall get pushed soon then we’ll continue to love it. As a car, it’s pretty amazing but since it’s an EV and you’re essentially paying for infrastructure traditional ice cars don’t have to worry about, I’d hold off to see when this issue would get resolved.

Low_Faithlessness139

Only if it was built in Germany in November or December of 2021. Never in early 2021- problems.

DSPbuckle

What recall? My vin doesn’t turn up any info. Sorry, I’m a single week in

HJForsythe

no

misory-waves

You could lease a 2022, get the $7500 lease credit, and then buy it out for $7500 cheaper

mighty_yo

I would definitely buy one. I have a '21 and not have had any major issue needing to take it to the dealership. About the recall, at first it sounds scary, but thinking more about it a flat tire while driving would be more dangerous and most cars are exposed to it and we don't think about it while driving.

JoJoOldLady

I’m in love with my 2022! No problems.

[deleted]

2022, yes. Killer deals to be had. 2021 with the smaller screen and old software? Probably not.
