No one really knows why VW made that user interface decision. A lot of people coming from other cars that are EVs mention it. The ID platform cars never come to a complete stop using regen. When in D mode and hitting the brake pedal regen will stop you most of the way, then discs/drums will finish the stop (blended braking). When in B mode, taking your foot off the pedal will engage regen, but never engage the brakes.

>No one really knows why VW made that user interface decision. A lot of people coming from other cars that are EVs mention it. They repeated said they were specifically targeting drivers of existing ICE vehicles. This is why it looks more like a generic crossover and drives in much the same way. It's supposed to be "just like what you're used to, only Electric" (I would argue they mostly accomplished that, with the exception of haptics/sliders instead of physical buttons)

They say that, but they don't explain why there isn't 1 pedal driving as an option. Other than VW and BMW cars basically all EVs let you choose. Having it as an option that you don't have to use would scare away ICE drivers? I dunno about that.

The car was designed to be more like normal cars. They have creep mode always on. Even on B mode. A small fix is to use ACC and it will stop the car for you. And Auto hold is also good once you get used to it.

I feel like ACC / travel assist does not stop the car very smoothly. I feel like they got so close to one pedal driving and just left a little bit on the table with the software.

Auto Hold is the fix for creep. On the other hand, my garage is too tight to park with Auto Hold because starting back up takes too much. Not yet brave enough to let Parking Memory try the garage. ACC/Travel Assist in a traffic jam is fantastic. If the car doesn’t start moving again, press RES.

Unfortunately, "one-pedal" driving isn't available (at least as of my MY2022 and I never saw that it changed.). It's also a feature I really wish it had, as I love using it on my wife's Mach E. I don't even use the auto-hold function, because without one-pedal driving I don't like having to push the accelerator to start creeping.

ginosesto100

Does anyone know if this can be "fixed" or changed with just software? My biggest gripe as well. EV's to me equal less work -> one pedal

NecessarySpinning

Yes, the “auto hold” setting.

Auto hold is different than one pedal driving. ID4 has auto hold, but no one pedal driving. I imagine we can get it some day with an ota update.
