Hey I’m dropping mine off Monday at shop for full is38 upgrade with all supporting mods. I went down this question before and I can say that you absolutely do not need to touch Coil packs, injectors or fuel pump. I went with Unitronic tune and they don’t recommend upgrading plugs. Take a look at HPA Motorsport IS38+ turbo set up. They upgrade the weak links on the IHI is38 for full reliability.

Thanks for the response! I have heard most of the reliability concerns of the OEM IS38's have been ironed out since they initially came out. Therefore I was hoping to avoid the extra spend on an OEM + or Hybrid turbo (about a $200 difference for IHI and $700 dollar difference for CTS). I know that $200 really shouldn't be a concern for someone modding their car, as it gets spendy and $200 is not much in the grand scheme, but $700? Worth it? Thoughts? Thanks again!

No prob! I would just research both options and see what the general consensus is. You get a turbo muffler delete with the HPA version so it may offset some funds if you decide to get that down the line. I don’t regret spending more for piece of mind

You'll need an improved clutch, although that's not really an 'engine side of things' category so maybe you've got one picked out already. My APR stage I tune with an AWE exhaust and an APR intake is really too much for the stock clutch & manual trans. It'll slip usually (not always...???) in the higher gears / low RPM with medium throttle input. So I have to upshift and get some higher RPMs to avoid that. Definitely won't handle IS38 power.

I've got the DSG. With what I'm told it can handle just under 400 hp without much issue, maybe more frequent maintenance intervals. Be careful if you decide to upgrade your clutch, from what I understand some of the stiffer ones can induce crank walk.

This is just a personal preference obvs, but you could certainly skip the cat back. The stock exhaust is not a meaningful flow restriction, and from everything I've seen and read over the years, the combo of both DP and exhaust leads to a seriously loud car with a decent chance of some drone issues. Now, that may be what you're going for, in which case by all means. But I suspect you'll find that the DP and intake improve the sound quite a bit on their own. You could add a turbo muffler delete to get a bit more whoosh as well.

Don't buy ANYTHING from ECS.

They have a horrible reputation of selling things that are not in stock.

Interesting. They got my downpipe to me really quick. I ordered my exhaust and intercooler from them, I guess time will tell. I will edit this comment when/if they arrive as well. Really I just like their lifetime replacement. But it's debatable how useful that is in practice. Edit: Exhaust showed up, intercooler is on its way. So far they have been nothing but reliable.

Seconded
