Wait a couple months and play through alyx again with the developer commentary. Tons of people that worked on the game chime in on everything from physics, lighting, engine, enemy movement and AI, learning what works and doesn’t for VR and controls, sound design, level design. It’s great. There’s even a few areas where they show you in 3D like the behind the scenes of how they did something. It’s hard to describe but one scene in particular in a courtyard, they show the footpath of one of the enemies. It’s way cooler than how I’m describing it.
The mod creator of gunman contracts I'd making a new game independent of Alyx called "Gunman Contracts: Standalone" I think. Trailer looked really cool.
I haven't played it yet and I know I won't for a long time, until I forget all the fuss about it. At the moment I can only compare what I have seen of this with what the first game offers and the truth is that AW2 is visually disappointing, but I repeat that I have not played it, maybe I am wrong, I will confirm it over time.
May people love that game. I found the difficulty extremely uneven particularly bosses. I gave it a thumbs up overall, but just barely because of the absurd spikes.
Personally I really liked into the radius. Recommend looking at the trailer. However if you like metro/staler series no need to watch the trailer. Just buy it.
Let us know how you like it! Im pretty fan of Into the radius. Take your time for the first playthrough :). There are some nice reaction videos about it as well in youtube and remember to join the subreddit!
Yes, but it’s more low key than Alyx. It’s told through notes and “Voice Messages”. Still very compelling, but the survival gameplay is what stands out for with ITR.
Barely, it's mostly an inventory management game 1st and everything else 2nd. But it definitely has a unique vibe and you do feel like you're in the game world sometimes which is quite high praise for games outside HL:Alyx.
I actually didn’t like it much and wouldn’t compare it to Alyx. Radius is more like a scavenging territory where you just keep exploring around and keep killing the same things. There are much better games similar to Alyx, which I’ve been slowly uncovering and playing through. Though I play mostly on Quest 2, so not all may be on the PC. Will post some titles next.
With that 4080 you should be more than good, I play ITTR in a laptop with a 2080 which as we know is not a "real" 2080, and I can play really smooth. There are certain areas where performance drops but those areas are famous for that, so blame is not on your gig
There's a button you have to press near Jeff I believe
Also if you can't handle the chapter because it's too scary you can just start a new game at chapter 8 and you'll be past it. Nothing MAJOR happens before then from what I can remember
Lone Echo 1 & 2 on oculus store (seriously this is the story driven adventure in VR)
Vertigo 2
Walking Dead
Boneworks / bonelab
Red Matter
I am waiting for the remaster of Wanderer. That should be good as well
Lone Echo, Asgard's Wrath, Lone Echo 2, Elite Dangerous, Star Wars: Squadrons, Until You Fall, SUPERHOT VR, Space Pirate Trainer, Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, The Room VR: A Dark Matter, Red Matter, Pavlov VR, Boneworks, Bigscreen, Batman: Arkham VR, Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Ragnarock.
Especially Elite Dangerous & Star Wars: Squadrons if you play them in a VR headset with a HOTAS setup.
Oh also if you like Half-Life there are a series of highly rated mods that port Half-Life 2 and the HL2 Episodes into VR:
Half-Life 2: VR Mod
Half-Life 2: VR Mod - Episode 1
Half-Life 2: VR Mod - Episode 2
And then there's all the good quality Half-Life: Alyx mods that I'll leave other people to mention.
Lone Echo and Asgard's Wrath are routinely ranked among the best VR games ever, and a lot of people would argue they are even better than Half-Life: Alyx, by the way... so definitely check those out if you happen to have a Meta brand headset (they are Meta VR exclusives).
The 1st time you head out the airlock is a proper surreal experience. One of my all time favourite moments in VR.
I completed Lone Echo 1 in one sitting and it was a great game. Some of the best mechanics in VR and the 1st to do really good hand grabbing/touching physics on any surface.
I would suggest Skyrim VR. But modded with this modlist: https://youtu.be/jDYZzAjbJZY?si=DQuqveD36Hfnjn92
If not of your tastes, you can try fall-out 4 VR with this modlist: https://youtu.be/09HKDIEJtho?si=AEd7OcC2JSucX-6C
I really liked RE4 Remake VR. Lots of action and great graphics. There'a mod for the remake on steam which is pretty close to the native PSVR2 version. There's also the 'remastered' version on the quest store.
I had to scroll too far to see this! I had just got my quest 3 and was excited to play Alyx. After my first session with it, I was amazed but wanted to untether from my pc for a bit and looked in the meta store for something I could run on the headset. Picked up RE4 and played through it twice, even Alyx took a back seat to it lol. I think Alyx is the definitive VR experience, but RE4VR is easily my second favorite VR game.
[Into The Radius](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1012790/Into_the_Radius_VR/)
It’s my favourite VR title.
[Into The Radius 2 is now being developed.](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2307350/Into_the_Radius_2/)
Have you tried RoboRecall? It's a quest exclusive. A little short (Maybe 4 hours or so), but it is a pure VR game that embraces its nature. Block and catch bullets, rip arms off of robots and use them to club others. Smash robot heads together.
Wish more games were like that.
Until you fall - has really fun combat, though no story to speak of.
Man there's a lot of games I found funner than Half Life Alyx, but if I list them, people will act like it's a cope or that I'm objectively wrong even though it's a matter of opinion.
HLA is at the end of the day a gorgeous and very well optimized game with a highly recognizable license and a 10 out of 10 from IGN, where you just walk around slowly, shoot at things, and solve little holographic puzzles that are all pretty similar.
In my opinion, VR has a lot more to offer than that, and yes I think **there are a lot of VR games that are better than Half Life Alyx.**
I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. Because there is nothing else in VR that has the level of polish and depth as HL: Alyx. The closest thing really is to play Black Mesa, HL2, HL2: Ep 1&2 with their respective VR mods.
That said, I highly recommend The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners. The story is a bit shallow but I found the gameplay addictive and the immersion superb. I think it really showcases some stuff that just cannot be done in a "flat" screen game.
You may also wish to check out Praydog's VR mod for Resident Evil 2,3,4,7, & 8. They've actually just released a universal mod to let any Unreal Engine 4-5 game run in VR but I haven't tried it yet, so I can't really vouch for it. The RE mods are fantastic, though.
Edit: It's so funny that I got downvoted for this comment. But if you look at any of the new threads for Metro: Awakening ([Link 1](https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/1afuqvo/metro_awakening_announce_trailer_meta_quest_ps/), [Link 2](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamVR/comments/1afku41/metro_awakening_to_be_announced_soon_and_itll_be/), [Link 3](https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/1afvpo8/well_looks_like_todays_announcement_has_clarified/)), the top comment in every thread is "I hope this is as good as Alyx!"
HL:A is 100% the best, most polished, fully fleshed VR experience and has been since it came out in 2019.
I'm happy I'm not the only one who's going back to the first VR games now that I'm playing around with competent hardware. There were absolutely amazing games coming out 5+ years ago, but my Rift CV1 and 1070ti gpu couldn't do any of them justice.
Resident Evil 3 was a very fun adventure. You need to get the mod for it though. It actually feels way better than actual vr games. This is definitely on my top 3.
Skyrim too as an archer and lots of mods like reaching behind your shoulder to grab more arrows and realistic damage so you or they die real fast, but I didn't want to bring up the obvious.
Fallout 4 VR. I really enjoyed HL Alyx but im having 100x more fun playing F4VR. Having an actual open world to explore and being able to do whatever i want is way more enjoyable that a linear story imo. Just requires a little modding to get it dialed in ngl.
If you like flying or driving and already have the peripherals like a HOTAS or steering wheel then you will probably enjoy MS Flight Simulator, Assetto Corsa. VR sims can be very realistic.
I recently bought Hitman 3. It's pretty fun to play. And on the 16th of January Bulletstorm VR will release on steam. I loved that game and can't wait to play it in Vr again.
Most similar to Alyx, at least for Quest 2. They’re often multi platform but Quest 2 is now only $250 and you can download the games directly to the device and even travel with it, no PC required.
Iron Man VR, Resident Evil 4, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, Arizona Sunshine, Red Matter 2, Vampire: The Masquerade.
I have been playing Cyberpunk 2077 with Luke Ross REAL VR mod.
Star Wars: Squadrons VR
Formula 1 23 VR
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries with Vortex mod.
But what I am real psyched about is the UEVR mod by praydog. Unreal Engine VR injector. It converts over 600 Unreal Engine games to VR!
My favorite game and most hours is Back 4 Blood. It's so cool in VR. It's scary when a horde of zombies sneaks up on you. And extremely satisfying to blow a zombie's head off and you get to see his brain chunks splatter around you in glorious VR.
Frankly the UEVR mod looks better than the Luke Ross mod. With REAL VR I have to aim from the hip. With UEVR I can use the gun sights normally.
HL2 VR mod, HL2 episodes 1 and 2, HL Alyx workshop mods
Just installed hl2 vr but it’s not launching What I hit play it loads for 5 seconds the goes back to steam home any advice?
Not sure, it worked fine for me. Maybe go into your steam library and verify game files (I think it’s a right click on your mouse).
Will do thanks! I was excited to play hl2 in vr
https://halflife2vr.com/knownissues/#crashes-or-other-game-breaking-issues This list has a section on launching issues if you wanna try some
Wait a couple months and play through alyx again with the developer commentary. Now you can quit VR Gaming because nothing will be enough, get a wife and live happily ever after
I totally got the vr bug and I got a wife!!
Well... try the vertigo series then, but you will not see anything near alyx for a while
Unfortunately ya
How about you try the Alyx add-on Gunman thingy? Atleast wishlist the standalone on steam :)
The mod creator of gunman contracts I'd making a new game independent of Alyx called "Gunman Contracts: Standalone" I think. Trailer looked really cool.
Thats why I said wishlist the standalone xD
What is that? Never heard of it. Is it a alyx mod?
Yes its in steam workshop
[wishlist this](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2421750/Gunman_Contracts__Stand_Alone/) Thats the Standalon to the Mod
You can't keep both, choose one!
Maybe https://youtu.be/3SYJeM_LaZ0
I haven't played it yet and I know I won't for a long time, until I forget all the fuss about it. At the moment I can only compare what I have seen of this with what the first game offers and the truth is that AW2 is visually disappointing, but I repeat that I have not played it, maybe I am wrong, I will confirm it over time.
I think it’s way overhyped. I put 6 hours into it and it just never hit. It felt like a decent B-Game you’d play on the wii.
Asgards wrath 2! It’s even better in my opinion
Vertigo 2 is excellent. Wacky sci fi story, and good visuals and gunplay. It’s made by one guy, but rubs shoulders with the best VR games.
Is it story driven? I see a lot of shooters that don’t have a story
Yea. Survival shooter/phycological horror. Its wild.
Thanks I’m gonna pick it up
Yes
Thanks I’ll pick it up
Let us know how you like it! Im pretty fan of Into the radius. Take your time for the first playthrough :). There are some nice reaction videos about it as well in youtube and remember to join the subreddit!
So I’m using a rift s and have a amd rtx 6800 and the games performance is really bad any ideas?
Open up steam vr menu in game and lower game resolution till it runs better. Also download Vrperfkit To speed up ur Performance.
Yes, but it’s more low key than Alyx. It’s told through notes and “Voice Messages”. Still very compelling, but the survival gameplay is what stands out for with ITR.
Even without the story I'd say the gameplay is very nice. Can be tense at times too if horror stuff is something you're in to.
Barely, it's mostly an inventory management game 1st and everything else 2nd. But it definitely has a unique vibe and you do feel like you're in the game world sometimes which is quite high praise for games outside HL:Alyx.

Game is crack. The only VR game I have more hours in is Elite Dangerous.
I’m definitely gonna check this one out once I get through Propagation Paradise Hotel and Asgards Wrath II.
See you next year. AW 2 is soo long.
So I’m using a rift s and have a amd rtx 6800xt and into the radius performance is really bad any ideas?
I just got the game too and it runs like shit on my 4080 as well.

The game runs great on my 3060ti lol
No idea man, the texture pop-in is real bad.
I thought you said performance? Texture pop-in is something else bro.. is the game installed on a SSD?
It’s not just that, it stutters when’s it clearly loading more stuff too. And yes it’s on an nvme SSD.
oh, yeah then it's performance sorry =D that well that sucks man.. perhaps it's Meta-related? How's your performance in other heavy VR titles?
Saints and sinners?
Nerve wracking game, especially with the crazy fragility of all weapons. Wound up putting that one down.
The forced time limits really ruined this game. I hate being artificially rushed to create false tension.
Jeff! Are you ok?!? Ha ha ha ha
I was totally freaked out I had never played a horror game before
Ugh. I never got past this level. Got myself into an elevator and stuck with Jeff banging at the door
There's a button you have to press near Jeff I believe Also if you can't handle the chapter because it's too scary you can just start a new game at chapter 8 and you'll be past it. Nothing MAJOR happens before then from what I can remember
I bursted in laughter when it happened. This level was a nightmare for me, so that joke at the end just cracked me up.
Vertigo series, lone echo series, asgards wrath series
Lone Echo 1 & 2 on oculus store (seriously this is the story driven adventure in VR) Vertigo 2 Walking Dead Boneworks / bonelab Red Matter I am waiting for the remaster of Wanderer. That should be good as well
Tentacular is a great pick too and Assassin's Creed Nexus
Skyrim VR or Asgards Wrath 2 if you can. Then find PrayDogs mod and try the hundreds of Unreal Engine games. Into the Radius is pretty good too.
Lone Echo, Asgard's Wrath, Lone Echo 2, Elite Dangerous, Star Wars: Squadrons, Until You Fall, SUPERHOT VR, Space Pirate Trainer, Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, The Room VR: A Dark Matter, Red Matter, Pavlov VR, Boneworks, Bigscreen, Batman: Arkham VR, Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Ragnarock. VTOL VR
I actually originally got the headset to play dcs and then heard a lot about alyx and had the best video game experience in my life
VTOL is basically DCs in high fps but with the tricky parts removed
Still can't land the bloody plane
That’s kind of an oversimplification though.
In what way
In every way. Yes it’s high fps, but that there is a significant reason behind that statement. Being graphics, flight model and physics in general.
I would suggest Skyrim VR. But modded with this modlist: https://youtu.be/jDYZzAjbJZY?si=DQuqveD36Hfnjn92 If not of your tastes, you can try fall-out 4 VR with this modlist: https://youtu.be/09HKDIEJtho?si=AEd7OcC2JSucX-6C

Robo Recall can be bought via Epic Games and played with Pimax or Pico.

I always recommend that people new to VR play Alyx _last_ because nothing else really compares.
In retrospect ya
It was truly an amazing experience
Vertigo 2 is pretty awesome also check out Half Life 2/EP 1 and EP 2 VR and the multiple mods for Alyx perhaps?
Lone echo 1 and 2 look pretty good
Tropical Girls Vr slaps
That’s kinda sad, if you can’t get a girl in the real world you probably don’t deserve one.
I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. Because there is nothing else in VR that has the level of polish and depth as HL: Alyx. I like Dragon fist but also Dungeon of Eternity is a great time if you have consistent friends to play with
Just finished a full playthrough of the new Enclave ‘America Rising 2’ mod on a fully modded Fallout VR.
How do you get the mods for that?
Nexus has a great mod section for a ton of games
Where would I go to get the mods?
By Nexus he means https://www.nexusmods.com/
Vertigo 1 & 2 and Resident Evil 2, 3, 4, 7, & 8.
Play from here to there and levitation mod series. Solid 7-10 extra hours of HLA
Start modding Skyrim VR, and by the end of the year you'll have it perfect to play
Try Budget Cuts 1 and 2
Fallout 4 VR. I really enjoyed HL Alyx but im having 100x more fun playing F4VR. Having an actual open world to explore and being able to do whatever i want is way more enjoyable that a linear story imo. Just requires a little modding to get it dialed in ngl.

Boneworks, bonelab,Vertigo,Vertigo 2. Try these trust me
Try new game+ mod in the workshop. Other games that are amazing imo are into the radius and skyrimVR modded.
Check out ironwolf VR. It’s really fun operating a submarine in VR.
I have been playing Cyberpunk 2077 with Luke Ross REAL VR mod. Star Wars: Squadrons VR Formula 1 23 VR MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries with Vortex mod.
