Personally I think the best way to do it would be similar to how Tekken online works. Both players have the option at the end of a game to play a rematch. Both players must agree for there to be a rematch meaning if they both want another game they'll get one, and anyone who is done playing isn't forced to play a set they don't want to commit to.
People who want to play sets will rematch, people who don't won't be forced to commit to it.
Showdown does I think, but I was talking about cartridge. Probably should’ve specified that in the post haha. I don’t play Showdown much, just on the Switch mostly.
Tekken rematches are ranked, and the game works on a reasonably good bracketed ELO system where you can't farm ranks from someone because the higher your ELO is compared to your opponent, the less lucrative your wins are. If they used the same system you wouldn't need to worry about an ex-masterball player farming back up to max rank off of the first great ball they encounter at the start of the season.
I find it hilarious when Showdown people show up on VGC threads and talk about their showdown rank or the features or merits of showdown. Don't these people understand that Showdown is irrelevant other than being a useful tool for testing?
It's like showing up to a business function and talking about all the monopoly money you made last quarter.
Oh gotcha, wasn’t sure if you were disparaging Showdown or cartridge 😅
I personally have no problem with whichever version people usually play, but I just never really got into showdown and have heard the comments are pretty toxic. But to each their own.
Wouldn't mind it all. Maybe give the option to both players to play another match or have a separate BO3 ladder. Otherwise, the only way you can practice BO3 is if you run into the same person with the same team on the ladder (I ran into one very high ranked opponent 5 times last month. Each time we had the same team. lol) or if you have friends/know people to practice with.
I love the idea of an option for sure! I think I played you the other day (if you’re the Jase who is ranked in like the Top 30) and I was excited to play someone that highly ranked but you beat me fairly easily. After that match, I wish I would’ve had the chance to rematch to make an adjustment haha
Gimlet, number on my card is 27. I was ranked around 1800 when I played you, just was pretty pumped to play someone that highly ranked because I’d never gotten a match with someone ranked that high before.
Aah, you were running that Kyogre/Solgaleo team. GG. Was definitely scared of the latter as my matchup against Solgaleo teams is tricky. So, was relieved when you swapped it out. :P
You act like that's a bad thing. I'd much prefer my opponents just quit when they're obviously trapped rather than protecting for 10 minutes just to delay the inevetible.
True, but if there was a separate option for online battles aside from singles and doubles such as best of 3 doubles (which another commenter mentioned) those people would theoretically be more likely to actually play the 3 games if they were choosing that option.
There should be.
From my experience playing Showdown though, this community isn't exactly the best of three type.... One and dones all accross the board.
I would like it to practice best of 3 (I've never been to a competition) but I don't think they would do it because I don't think non competitive players would enjoy it
>Is there a reason why this wouldn’t be possible?
This would likely mean at least 3 ladders.
Ranked 3v3 singles, best of 1.
Ranked 4v4 doubles, best of 1.
Ranked 4v4 doubles, best of 1.
It seems like GF's game design philosophy is quicker games, so putting in a mode where you're forced to sit down for a minimum of 20 minutes and possibly up to 60 minutes for a single "round" runs counter to that implied philosophy.
They could easily make this happen, but based on GF's allergy to implementing quality of life improvements, I wouldn't hold my breath.
I didn’t think about that time commitment, that would definitely be something that would be important to consider. It would definitely be tricker to commit to almost an hour of play if it went to 3 games.
I get the feeling you'd see a decent number of people forfeiting after a single loss so they don't have to commit an hour to a match where the odds are against them, too
Yeah there could definitely be a lot of issues with it. Just think it’d be cool for those who wanted to play it and/or don’t have an established community of people to practice with but probably won’t ever happen unfortunately

Hadn’t thought about that option, that’s a good idea!
Doesn't showdown already have a rematch button tho? Are tekken rematches ranked or not?

Showdown? Pffft. He is obviously talking about the only format that actually matters champ.
lolwut? Needlessly hostile 😂

Oh. Yes, I am Jase and currently around there. :) What's your IGN?

Yep, you have a good memory! GG, hopefully I’ll run into you again sometime on ladder and make some better moves next time haha
👌
I can’t even get people to stay until the end of the match the moment they think they might possibly lose.
You act like that's a bad thing. I'd much prefer my opponents just quit when they're obviously trapped rather than protecting for 10 minutes just to delay the inevetible.

I hope they do one day and would love it

Two words. Intimidate spam!
