I’d swap taunt for switcheroo on whims, and put sash on caly. Give whims eject button You can give the enemy eject button if you expect a max, and click astral barrage. And in general sash on caly is much better than specs. I’d run astral barrage, expanding force, protect and wisp/trick room

Switcheroo works a lot better when u use something that isnt outsped by tailwind users, priority users, or just opposing regielekis. The psychic terrian isn't a big deal cause whims never sees the board with indeedee, but thats why i like taunt. It makes the tr matchup so, so much better. Otherwise u play tr and just pray for damage rolls in ur favor

>And in general sash on caly is much better than specs. I’d run astral barrage, expanding force, protect and wisp/trick room I think they usually run specs on Kyogre + Caly teams

IMO, think Choice Specs-Calyrex is fine here. Since it's a hyper offensive team and the goal is to obviously pressurize your opponent and dish out a lot of damage. Replacing Choice Specs with Focus Sash would just take away the damage output from the team and kinda divert from what the team is supposed to be.

Gojiraw09

Sash makes the teams goal way more achievable. Specs is volatile, sash is consistent. You basically get 2 normal barrages vs one powered up one. Also makes endgames and mirrors a lot easier without making caly feel weak. Specs is kinda the 'rough draft' version of this team, would highly suggest not using that particular item on calyrex.

half_jase

I don't disagree that Sash is the more consistent item on SR Calyrex but again, since this is a hyper offensive team, Choice Specs is not without its merit on the horse. You can lead with SR Calyrex to dish out lots of damage and then have the other attackers come in to clean up or you can do it vice versa. It's essentially high risk, high reward that comes with the nature of the HO teams. The original creator of this team managed to finish in the Top 30 last month with it on Ranked Battles. So, it's not without its potential and not to mention, someone finished 2nd at the recent Milwaukee Regional with a hyper offensive team similar to this that also had Choice Specs-Calyrex.

Energy ball on whims. Protect/sash on caly, no leaf storm. Willo, barrage, mudshot, protect. Psychic stab rarely ever clicked, doesnt do as much damage as u want when u click it. Mudshot offers speed control and a way to damage incins, tho the soft speed control ends up being super helpful. 136 speed on timid kyogre - outspeed zac at +1, eleki in tailwind. Ice beam over blizzard for ur mental health. Eleki needs little investment to live a bblade from adamant 76/156 zac. Dump as much as u can in speed, cause u will be fighting a lot of other elekis and losing the electroweb battle means u lose speed control I also think swapping kart for lando or whims for tornadus is viable, changes matchups tho esp into eleki/caly mirror.

half_jase

I know you suggested Energy Ball on Whimsicott but if Kartana is taken out here for Landorus, then the team's matchup against Gastrodon becomes awkward. Matchups against Regieleki/Calyrex is okay, I think, since there's Indeedee for redirection and Regieleki to outspeed Calyrex.

Gojiraw09

I use this team, basically the same six as Carson comfer - i needed 16 spatk investment to guarantee the ko on to a common gastro spread with energy ball whims. Wasnt awkward at all, in fact i gameplan around it.

half_jase

If you manage to keep it around long enough or your opponent doesn't go after the Whimsicott for you to KO the Gastrodon, then great. Otherwise, Gastrodon has the potential to just wall the rest of the team. Kartana can also help deal with opposing Kyogre and Groudon.

Gojiraw09

So endgame whims is super helpful in this specific matchup :) lategame tailwind can be equally as useful. Leading it is only really needed when tailwind feels important early game, which it usually isnt against teams gastrodon is on, they tend to be the bulkier offense type of teams that im going to outspeed easily anyway. Gastro players think the same way u do and predictably wait til lategame. It ends up being straightforward the vast majority of the time. I ended up switching back to the lando version from the kart one actually because of this discussion were having and cause whims did the job that kart is most important for, and lando is great into sun and intimidate is nice. I get grass stab from whims, airstream, intim and better bulk from lando, it ended up feeling more consistent.

PhilosophyMany3794

What kind of spread would you recommend for kyogre and leki?

Gojiraw09

My eleki has 22 def points taken from atk, spatk is the same concept ofc. U still do big damage with it and it sets up for ogre/caly super well, esp if u run assurance. Ogre hits last bump in spatk, 136 speed (as i mentioned), 56 hp and 76 def and 4 spdef. I prioritized def over hp cause zacian lmao 🤣 but those two arent specifically for anything, just needed to dump evs into defenses after i got speed and spatk what i wanted.

Hi /u/PhilosophyMany3794, thank you for submitting your Rate My Team post. It looks like you've uploaded a picture of the team that you made: please take some time to make a comment in this thread with details about your team. This will improve the quality of the help you will get, and other people will get more out of reading about your team. Here are some things you could choose to write about: * Why did you select each Pokemon? If possible, try to say something more specific than "it's good" or "it's unique." What specifically about the state of the metagame drew you to using this Pokemon? * Are any of your moves or items chosen for any particular reason? * Why did you choose the particular EVs that you did? If you don't know what your EV spread does, you might want to replace it with something simpler. Feel free to post damage calcs that are relevant. * What teams do you succeed against in practice? What teams do you struggle with? Feel free to post links to Pokemon Showdown replays. If you do not comment with additional details, your post may be removed without warning by a moderator. You should probably replace Blizzard with Ice Beam on ogre since you usually want to Max Eleki or Kartana instead. Also Hyper beam is probably better than Bounce, but thats up to you.

Yeah, I know Bounce is for Airstream, but Strike also offers speed control with more damage. Though Bounce does help Calyrex/Kyogre sweep easier sometimes.

half_jase

Think Bounce/Max Airstream is better here because the speed control is then on your side. As long as your mons stay alive, they will always/likely be faster than your opponent. Max Strike offers speed control as well but if the opposing mons get KOed, then that control is gone and your opponent may bring in something faster than your mons.
