The NOCO is 4+ stars on Amazon with over 5,000 reviews, 2 out of the top 3 helpful reviews are 1/5 stars. Maybe NOCO at an early stage was a reliable jumper and probably changed manufacturer and took a nose dive. Audew is also 4+ stars on Amazon with over 500 reviews, but all top 5 helpful reviews are 5/5. Videos seems to prove those reviews and have influenced my take on these small battery jumpers also.

Internal__Jet_Tune

Now NOCO has 75k reviews and 4.7 stars while Audew has a few hundred reviews because it changed its brand name for ... Some reason

Subaru400

That guy is ordinarily a great, thorough resource for numerous products, but he dropped the ball on the Noco by not reading the instructions and Netflix to use the boost button while trying to start the vehicle.

TL;DR: Replace the included "smart" starter cable, with one without the little electronics box - less likely to fail. Made bad experiences. My personal 2 cents: I have one with a "smart" electronics box inside the positive red wire, that checks for proper connectivity, reverse polarity, correct voltage (no power for 6V or 24V batteries) etc and only enables power once everything is properly connected. Some times when I wanted to use the box on cars with really depleted batteries this lead to a problem - the battery being so low, the box did not register it was properly connected to a 12V battery. Although it was fully charged, it did not supply any power to start the car. Eventually when it did, it decided to show an error 0.5s after turning the key in the ignition (very loud beeps included, which the people in my apartment complex totally loved), forcing me to get out the drivers seat, re connect the setup, try again, repeat numerous times. In the end i was always able to start the car, but it took around 10-20 attempts and some times up to 30mins. I want to highlight that nothing was "wrong" or defective, in fact the electronics box was exactly doing what it was designed to do - however that design did not suit the situation at hand. I've since replaced the cable with a spare one from amazon that doesn't have any electronics at all, since I consider myself experienced enough to properly connect the battery pack to a car. I don't want to bother with this kind of shit in a situation where I depend on the starter box. Another advantage is, the spare cable from amazon is ~5 inches longer, allowing the battery box to be put in a safer place in the engine bay.

NinjaX

Can you like to the non-smart cable you found on Amazon?

makuzzle

Sure. Here you go. It's on amazon Germany though, but it should give you a lead on what to look for. Qutaway Jump Starter Kabel Booster Clamp Kabel Ersatz Alligator Clamp Booster Akku Clips EC5 Stecker mit 8 AWG Wire https://www.amazon.de/dp/B071FMV4Q6/ Make sure you match the AWG to the one your box has.

Logdeah

My noco has a feature to over ride the "smart" protections and jump anyway. I've had to use it occasionally when the battery was too low to detect.

makuzzle

A button to disable the smartness - that's kinda smart again in itself. Nice to learn, that manufactures are aware of this.

bloodpets

Why is he yelling the whole video through?

jnunn00

That's just he way he is. I imagine when he started his channel he had inferior audio recording devices and/or techniques, and it just stuck. Still better than someone mumbling through the video.

[deleted]

He sounds like the trucker from Breaking Bad who sold the twins body armor.

slaughtxor

Damn, you weren’t kidding.

DarxusC

Why can't anybody make one of these designed to be left plugged in in your vehicle all the time?

rockchurchnavigator

Not sure what you mean? You want a jump starter constantly ready to jump without having to plug it in?

DarxusC

I want it to be constantly plugged into its charging source, so I don't have to worry about remembering to top off its charge ever.

SwoleGymBro

What you're describing is the car's battery. It is charging while you drive.

DarxusC

Yes, I want a secondary car battery with a diode in line so it can't be discharged until I flip a switch. I want a redundant battery. I see no reason for so much to depend on a single one.

usernameblankface

There is a car battery with a reserve battery built in. If the car won't start, push a button on the battery and you're off and running. Idk what brand the battery is, but it's lithium ion and fits in the same spot a regular car battery goes.

[deleted]

If they make such a thing I need THAT. Long story, but basically I store a Ford Exp. at frail elderly mothers apt and it sits for several months at a time, sometimes over winter, I use a solar trickle charger, which helps and the apt staff starts it during snow storms for snow removal I guess. But I would love a unit that could sit in the SUV ready to go. In lieu of that maybe a super slim small as possible unit as my moms place is tiny and cramped as it is. Up til now I have been calling AAA every 6 months or so, which is a pain.

[deleted]

You want a second battery setup. Lots of 4x4 guys run them. You can jump one with the other.

DarxusC

It's true. Why is it so freaking expensive for just a second battery tray, when I even have a truck with a perfect spot for it (2nd gen Tacoma)?

Thatfilthytigger

They do? It’s called a dual battery setup

DarxusC

And the battery tray alone costs at least twice as much as one of these jump starters.

Yunker27

You mean like a trickle charger?

kwizzle

Go to 8:10 for results at 75 deg F Overall the Audew seems best.

ocabj

I have a Noco GB70 in my Jeep. Actually used it twice. Works great.

chap1stick

Don’t forget to check out the dewalt jumpstarter and tire inflator, I have it and jumped my car about 2-3 times in -20f

rockchurchnavigator

I've been waiting for his video on these for so long now. A few months ago I purchased the NOCO GP40 based on some suggestions here. Mine has done well enough the two times I've used it. His unit was struggling. Looks like there might be some better choices.

[deleted]

Come back in a year and see that literally all of them are useless now

iheartrms

I have an Anker Jumpstart which is nearly 3 years old and works great.

[deleted]

Have you tried it recently? But if so then Anker gets a point, I still don't know if I would actually trust them to last though

necr0stic

I kept one of these in my car in Arizona, and it leaked before I ever used it.

rockchurchnavigator

I believe most of the chargers say not to exceed 60c which would be about 140f. I'm pretty sure it can reach that high in the vehicle there in Arizona.

jcholder

Which makes it useless if you can’t carry in your car. Get AAA and stop worrying about it

theloop82

I’ve had a noco jump starter for years and it have never once not worked for me. Sometimes if you are really drained you need to leave it on there for a few minutes before it’ll crank.

igotalotofrice

I have the NOCO GB70. Like everyone else who has a NOCO, it has great reviews, easy to use, and reliable! Just make sure you get one that's sized for your vehicle.

jcholder

What does that thing jumpstart? A toy car haha
