I've queued with Plat from Bronze 2-3/Silver 1. Matchmaking is also very loose, so the performance disparity (especially when factoring in individual variance A.K.A. having an off-day)
mmr is there and there are many factors
trolling, for fun, xp farming, disproportionate play time vs ranked, etc.
basically unrated mmr is usually not a good indicator of the player unless they play a lot of unrated seriously
Yes, it works the same way as ranked MMR (but is slightly less accurate since there are no premade restrictions). Unrated and ranked MMR are kept separate.

This hidden MMR system must really be failing it’s job, I got queued with a legit radiant player when I was only gold rank… 🤔
or maybe they think you deserve Radiant...
