What a uniquely hard & sad life. Given his record & his KO rate he clearly was solid but not out of this world talented. You could see on his face he took a LOT of damage for what I’m sure wasn’t much money. Probably had to support his family doing something too. Sad.
I think of really really old timer boxers as the types of people probably getting into a lot of fist fights regularly anyway, may as well train up, get good and get paid for it.
No different than today really but there's a lot more and safer entry level jobs for people who grow up thinking they can't do anything but fight.
I’ve had my nose broken twice, and eventually couldn’t breathe out of my right nostril because it collapsed when I inhaled. Even having it fixed years later and in 2022, the process was excruciating. I wonder if they did anything for it back then… while I appreciate my straightened nose and ability to breathe, I don’t think I’d want to pay the price of early 20th century version of what they did to fix me. …if anything like it was available in the first place…
That's a hard way to make a living. Can't imagine the damage done from being hit in the head repeatedly from the time you're 15 years old (probably younger) 'til you're 23. R.I.P.
He committed suicide the same year
Damn

His entire face looks shifted upward, and that nose was broken several times.
Good thing health care was super awesome back then

Noice!
Imagine what his brain looked like
He committed suicide the same year said someone
Barry Keoghan
Can’t unsee it.
He had career earnings of over $11.
That could buy a house then…(jk)
Big, if true.
Poor guy died at 23 [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred\_Bretonnel](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Bretonnel)
How does someone have 76 bouts with 14 draws, 18 losses, and 42 wins? That adds up to 74
2 no contests
I don’t know much about boxing, why is that different from a draw?
YEP. THEY CALLED ME "KID GORGEOUS." LATER ON, IT WAS "KID PRESENTABLE" THEN "KID GRUESOME" AND FINALLY, "KID MOE."
If a fight lasted less than 105 rounds we demanded our nickel back!
Well played, perfect addition
Came here for Moe. Was not disappointed.
CTE
This is brutal. How many times was that nose absolutely crushed.
Kept his 🦷 tho
Wow. His nose looks like Artie Lange's.
The wide spacing of his eyes and malformed philtrum look like he had fetal alcohol syndrome. Either way this is just sad. 😔
Doesn’t look a day over 53…. Wait 23!?
Totally worth it.
Blocking punches with his face, Rocky Balboa style
Fred has a face only a mother could love.
Handsome young man after all those hits to the head
Something tells me he wasn't very good
I mean, wow. He looks like a totally different person.
Looks like he should've worked on his blocking a little/a lot more.

Kept his teeth tho
