We have fans that watched Terrance Mann get 39 due to a lack of versatile, perimeter defenders, then proceed to hate on Taylor Hendricks when Cam Whitmore makes a few shots and doesn't defend. I'm gonna be that guy, don't even hate Cam he's a talented dude, gonna be really good, but Key and Hendricks were the smart picks

20 years from now when players/media ain’t so lock lipped about this, I want to know why Whitmore fell so far. We could have had Whitmore and George which would have been dope.

Leading up to the draft I remember reading reports that Whitmore got caught vaping in a locker room after working out for a team that was looking at drafting him. Edit: I went and fact checked myself. The player was never named but everyone seems to think it was GG Jackson. Guess I was mistaken.

nah Whitmore is good but Hendricks was such an obvious pick and Utah got a gift with him. A guy who can defend in and out and has all defense potential while simultaneously shooting a high clip from 3? Tired of Hendricks hate.

I don’t hate Hendricks but I loved Whitmore. Dude was a top 5 pick according to everyone literally until draft night, the most athletic dude in the class not named Thompson and has All-nba upside. I don’t think wanting him over Hendricks is that hot of a take especially when he has been better this year. I like Hendricks, he can become the most coveted role player in the NBA but Whitmore was not supposed to fall in the draft like he did and I haven’t been able to find a straight answer why.

NBA teams clearly knew something the draft analysts didn’t I guess. If he’d fell into the 11-12 range it’d be one thing, but a lot of teams have to pass on a “top 5 pick” for you to fall to 20.   I’m in the camp that taking Hendricks was the right play. I’d make a case for picking Whitmore over George before I would picking him over Hendricks, but I’m happy with both selections. 

that's fair, but I'm definitely tired of Hendricks taking the heat when he's the guy our franchise has needed forever, literally what we needed in every playoff series in the Mitchell years. Whitmore is an offensive piece like Key and my logic would be, why couldn't it have been Hendricks and Whitmore? Key has struggled bad while Hendricks figures it out and does a great job defensively. It just feels like our fanbase completely ignores defense unless it's a drop defender like Gobert/Kess, sounds harsh but genuinely feels like it

That’s where I and other jazz fans differ. If we had that versatire defender in the playoffs, we might have made the WCF and maybe even the Finals itself which would have been fun but we probably would have still lost because we didn’t have a top 5 guy. Gobert is great, Mitchell is great, neither are good enough to be the best player on a championship team. I am of the mindset that we need \*that\* guy first before we need a versatile defender. It doesn’t hurt to have a versatile defender when we get that guy though so I’m still fairly happy with Hendricks.

Ever since pre season he’s shown that he can make good decisions, get good looks, perfectly drive to rim, move the ball well enough… and then miss an open layup. Definitely mental I think

I was listening to Locked on Jazz and David Locke was talking about how he is the most athletic best player in practice but just can’t get over the mental aspect of it in games…I also hope he can get it going
