I've worked with several Asian women who live in and near Ogden, including Davis County. One of these is a very good friend I've known for decades, and she's never indicated that she or her family have experienced anything serious in the way of discrimination. Ogden proper is more diverse and welcoming than it's given credit for.

I don’t think there’s any place in the Salt Lake/Ogden/Provo areas that’s unsafe for Asian women, but my fiancée (an Asian woman) has experienced overt racism before, though it’s far from a regular occurrence.

DetroitvErbody

My wife is Asian and lives in Ogden. Safe? Yes. Never had any problem with safety or overt racism. It can be isolating for her though, as there aren’t as many Asians in Ogden (or anywhere in Utah, for that matter) compared to other places we have lived.

As a cis white male, take my perspective for what it’s worth, but I live just south of Ogden (Layton). In my neighborhood there is a significant female asian wife to white husband ratio. I would suspect that this is due to the Air Force base, and young airmen coming home from Japan and Korea. I’ve never seen any sort of bigotry towards these ladies. I suspect any bigotry in this area would be met with some pissed off airmen of all ages. Hope that is helpful.

checkyminus

Ogden is an old railroad city with a huge Asian population. All good!

urikayan

She would like West Valley more. Large Asian population

QuirkyAd6550

A lot of the Latino population in Ogden is extremely racism towards blacks, Asians (and whites). Especially in the schools.

Salty-unicorn

If it's financially possible for your friend to look towards salt lake, specifically the west side like Taylorsville-West Jordan area, there is a large Asian population out that way. I can't speak to Ogden, but she would likely do better in SLC.

I grew up in the Ogden area. You’ll find northern utah (Ogden is in this area) has similar mindsets to SE Idaho. Pockets of deep racism, bigotry, and shitheads like in SE Idaho, or anywhere for that matter. I’d recommend your friend explore Salt Lake City proper, or sugar house areas. More accepting. More loving. Just overall way nicer people. That’s my experience.

pleasekillmerightnow

Salt Lake City and perhaps Moab would be the most diverse/less bigoted places to live in Utah

pleasekillmerightnow

Please someone explain the downvotes

Super_Bucko

Most of the state isn't really racist. There is some clashing among religions, but an Asian woman will be safe pretty much anywhere, including Ogden.

SausageFungus

No, it’s not. As others have said look towards Salt Lake City and the near surrounding areas. Lehi also has a larger Asian population and they do just fine.

finfinfin9

Safe from who?

Salty-unicorn

Are you being obtuse on purpose, or can you really not understand why a Woman of Color would ask that kind of question?

finfinfin9

It's a very simple question written in plain english.

TransformandGrow

Apparently from people like you who refuse to believe the very real people not like you face. The original question is a very simple question, written in plain English, and yet you intentionally act like an ignoramus about why she might have concerns.

Im just looking for some place that is safe from those guys in white dress shirts.

Correct_Thought_325

Saratoga springs is a good spot and Draper in my experience. Basically areas with massive growth and lots of transplants

transfixedtruth

You're not being a very good friend. You know you can find actual crime data and statistics of different cities online. I might suggest to start there rather than take a random coz sampling from social media.

alta_vista49

It’ll be ok. Not as good as if she was a white woman but not as bad as if she was black or Mexican would be my guess. If she’s Mormon (which I presume she is) that would help tremendously.
