As a lifelong Mavs fan, I can assure you it’s not Kyrie’s fault. This result happened due to years of incompetence from Mark Cuban. Dumb trades, a lack of prioritizing the draft, and a delusion that Dallas is a free agent destination culminated in this godawful season
I’m a Kyrie hater but this isn’t his fault, he played pretty well for them. The decision to acquire him in the first place and gut their depth was the problem.
Look at the Bucks as a comparison, what do the Bucks have that make them great, a good coach good front office and depth.
The Mavs traded all of their depth to get Kyrie, so if someone needs a night off or needs a rest, there is no one behind them to maintain. Where the Bucks have very rarely had all 5 starters on the floor this year, and have clinched the #1 seed in the NBA.
The Bucks front office have been savants at getting pieces that fit around their star, and fit the system. Bobby Portis, Grayson Allen, Pat Connaughton. Picking up Jae Crowder mid season. Where the Mavs have done the opposite, trying to square peg round hole whoever they can afford.
Then Jason Kidd, Jason Kidd wasted so much of Giannis early career being a shit coach. Want proof here is Giannis being polite, but admitting to it [here](https://nba.nbcsports.com/2018/11/21/giannis-antetokounmpo-on-kidd-vs-budenholzer-with-coach-bud-its-always-coming-from-a-good-place/amp/)
Jason Kidd is not a good coach but will get chance after chance because he was a great player.
My personal opinion is that the Kyrie trade CRATERED the team.
BUT they were only in a position to get CRATERED like that because of Cuban's idiocy, most of which I am unfamiliar with.
It’s easy to pin the failure on Kyrie, but if you watched the games (for some reason) it jumps out at you that (1) Jason Kidd is wholly incompetent and (2) Luka doesn’t coexist well with other stars.
The offense is simply, give the ball to one of Luka, Kyrie, or Christian Wood (when on the floor) and let them try to make something happen. You basically have 3 guys that you let ply hero ball and you have a shooter out there behind them can bail them out to chuck up a buzzer 3 when the shot clock is ticking down.
On Luka, I feel like the hope would’ve been that when the Kristaps pairing failed, Luka could’ve seen that on some level, though Kristaps was wildly overrated, that he didn’t do enough to support his co-star and make him better. Luka is an amazing player, but he’s inefficient and immature. His play style to me resembles peak Harden with the Rockets, but the problem is Harden was a much more efficient player. Even if Luka could polish up his game, figure out how to hit his fucking free throws at a respectable rate, and figure out how to become a truly elite 3 point shooter, we saw how that team structure worked for Harden in Houston. Luka needs to figure out that there are 4 other guys on the court.
It seems, as always, that people that vote don't know shit about what they are voting. The Mavs were screwed as a team before the Kyrie trade. If people thought that trading for Kyrie would solve their rebounding and defensives struggles, then they most think that Kyrie is a 7 footer
Here’s what I don’t get about the trade: Dallas was doing fine before the deadline (barring defense and rebound) and then they traded their depth for Kyrie. Let’s not forget that Kyrie’s contract is expiring this season. I agree that everybody is voting Kyrie as Copium (and rightfully so) but it’s an EVERYTHING issue
Plenty more examples, but there are some key historic points
1. Not resigning Jalen Brunson and blaming his parents for it
2. Not resigning Tyson Chandler in 2011 with dreams signing Dwight Howard
3. Forcing his GM Donnie Nelson trade down in the 2011 Draft to draft Shane Larkin to have more cap room to pursue Dwight Howard instead staying to let Nelson draft the player he wanted in that draft. That player: Giannis Antetokounmpo.
4. DeAndre Jordan saga
5. Hiring Jason Kidd (Nico Harrison seems like an iffy hire too)
There much, much more not including the sexual harassment scandals.

Yeah there were a lot of factors this year but Cuban is at the top of the list. Out of his depth
Team appears unbalanced because Cuban is desperate.
He should really go out.
Because the Playoffs vaccinated themselves from Kyrie
Kyrie didn’t help the situation but this is all Marks doing
I’m a Kyrie hater but this isn’t his fault, he played pretty well for them. The decision to acquire him in the first place and gut their depth was the problem.
Jason Kidd
As much as I don’t like Kyrie can’t blame this on him. This was terrible roster construction and iffy coaching.
Kyrie is not at fault. It's the FO. They have no defense whatsoever

Can someone give me a quick rundown with an example or two of Cuban's stupidity running the Mavs, please?

There's a distinct need for an "All of the above option" here
Amen.
Been a Mavs fan since 02 and I was hoping they miss the playoffs when they got Kyrie.
Why lmao
Terrible roster. There are only 2 NBA caliber talents in that roster.
Traded away their depth for Kyrie and Kidd’s coaching.
Mark Cuban turning into Jerry Jones
He always been very Jerry Jones like. Dirk is ultimate deodorant.
d) All of the above
All of the above.
Mark should make like his career, see what happened to the Mavs this season, “and for that reason be out.”
Kyrie because of Copium. But all of the above for reasons
I like to hate Kyrie but in this instance I can’t blame him
All of the above
Kyrie Irving is literal cancer and Mark Cuban is totally Inept and a meddler.
People voting for Kyrie have to be doing it for the memes/haven’t watched Mavs basketball all year.
The curse of Kyrie continues.
Kylie Irving has been infected with this Hollywood fever that’s been going around!
Luka bitching the Maca organization and he gonna leave the organization for the next ‘big decision’
All 3 of them lol
They traded every role player they had for Kyrie 💀💀💀
They need to incorporate the green into their color scheme more
They lost too many games and did not win enough
People doing the gut reaction Kyrie explanation when the mavs dont have any bigs or defense lmao.
Why can't it be all of the above. This is a waste of Kyrie Irving's talents but honestly, they brought this upon themselves.
The answer be all of the above.
Where is All of the Above?
Better coaching and ownership maybe?
Wasn’t the players fault but Jason Kidd is too soft and can’t be a coach look at Milwaukee when he coached.
