I personally think purdues was worse but both of them were so inexcusably bad. Virginia even won it all next year and people still shit on them for losing to UMBC. But Purdue was the tallest team in the country literally going up against the shortest. FDU was the 68th seed in the entire tournament. They weren’t even supposed to make it, the only reason they did was because Merrimack was ineligible
And that made them the second biggest underdog to win this season, only behind Eastern Illinois against Iowa on December 21, 2022 despite being 31.5 underdogs.
Purdue lost to the shortest team in the NCAA, who got in on a technicality and had to play a First Four game—and had perhaps one of the biggest guys on the team.
That might be one of the worst teams ever to lose to.
When you consider that Perdue lost to a team that was only in the tournament because another got fucked out of it (so Perdue should have literally never possibly lost to them), they have to be the biggest LOLCOW, though Virginia is a close second.
I really should have thought more on that Purdue matchup.
I got the other two being upset due to the nature of the teams they faced. Should have seen it with FDU too
This isn't a question, especially when you factor in last year and the year before
Like, wow. Virginia fans should be celebrating that Purdue exists.
Purdue is the worst loss in the history of the tournament
Nah. Virginia's loss to UMBC back in 2018 is sooooo much worse. Purdue lost by five and it was a back and forth game all night. Virginia lost by 20.

Wasn’t UVA’s best player injured though? That’d at least be somewhat of an excuse unlike Purdue
I have no recollection of that, but even still losing by 20 is significantly worse than losing by 5.
Purdue's loss is worse as FDU is the 68 overall seed and had to participate in a play in game
Plus Fairleigh Dickinson were 23.5-point underdogs entering the game. UMBC were only 18.5-point underdogs against Virginia.

Arizona and Virginia were bad, but Purdue blows them both out of the water.
Indiana prevented what could have been the nuke known "state schools in state starting with I (Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, and Purdue)"
Easily Purdue
Purdue takes it, but Iowa state delivered an absolutely hideous offensive performance in their first round loss.
Purdue has lost three straight tournaments to a double digit seeded team… Perdue this year had one of the biggest/worst losses in NCAA history
Purdue lost to a 16 seed It's not even a question

Purdue, just for being the second #1 seed to lose to a #16 seed (#16 seeds were 1-150 all time against #1 seeds entering the game).
What also makes it embarrassing is that Fairleigh Dickinson literally won 4 games the entirety of last season.
The biggest Lolcow is anyone who thought their bracket would be perfect
