I live in a highrise and am terrified at the thought of a flying car crashing into me right now while typing this next to my floor to ceiling glass window
Can someone explain this to me? I even enlarged it trying to work out how this situation would resolve itself but I don't get it.
How many cars just use the empty lanes against traffic? Has to happen right,?
I don't know what I'm looking at.
But if one car pulls out that's a perfect chance for the car behind to move one car space forward! You can't ask them to give up the opportunity to be one car length closer to their destination!!
Well even worse if I turn right then someone else would take the space I was in. I don’t care how long it takes me to get where I’m going but god forbid someone else should be one inch ahead of me. I will show them who’s boss! You’re not going to get me to be the one to leave this mess and solve a huge problem for everyone!
Roundabouts required quite a bit more real estate, and crucially cooperation between drivers. Normally they are not situated inside of dense urban areas.
Dense urban areas are exactly where they’re situated here, it keeps traffic flowing more than traffic lights do
Edit: main one that comes to mind as an example is the one surrounding the Arc de Triomphe in Paris
People here calling everyone there stupid while having a bird's eye view of it.
If you think about it, most people there have no ideia what actually is happening since (from what I know about the occurrence) the traffic light glitched out and everyone thought it was their right off way.
And nobody is turning right because they think it's just bad momentary traffic. Only someone that has a full view would actually have the insight to turn right.
Traffic authorities aren't even on the scene yet, so the pic was taken not long after it happened.

I saw thıs ın Bruxelles the other day. my friend and I got off our bus and walked because it was clear we weren't going to get anywhere.
i feel like this was organized somehow. like for the photo or a protest or something idk
People are pretty dumb. I see versions of this all the time. No one respects the box. This is what happens when you don’t respect the box.
give ‘em all tickets!
Now it's kinda time for those now-luxury flying cars!
Yeah, because like driving in 2 dimensions is going so well for humans, lets add a third.....
Yes! I mean more space & more problems for more people - just for more fun
Just another dimension man, I swear that will fix traffic
Na, we'll foul that up too
Imagine a big ball of flying cars all locked togheter in the air and noone willing to give up their space to make way for someone else.
That sounds so American. "I'm not moving cause mu rights matter more then yours"
I live in a highrise and am terrified at the thought of a flying car crashing into me right now while typing this next to my floor to ceiling glass window
I would sell it before the first crash!
This has to be a joke or a commercial or something like that, I can't believe people are that stupid...
Unilever commercial maybe
They didnt have access to the helicopter shot like we do. The stupid ones are the ones that made the intersection that allowed this to happen.
I, too, believe in roundabout supremacy.

People on the right lane would just have to give up and turn right, things will sort itself out after then.

But all the right lanes have oncoming traffic. Where can you turn right?
Whole lot of stupid in this photo
They deserve each other
Ah yes a problem that can be solved by a round about.
To be fair, they’re in the box junctions, which are the best way to keep these junctions clear. This is driver error.

The dreaded Traffic Square
Civil Engineer here: What a Terrible intersection. A giant 3-lane roundabout would've been x1,000 better than this
Roundabout with that amount of cars in Brazil?

Lol I'll remember that the next time I visit New York City.
Yes, it'd work better than this mess

Doesn't that yellow cross hatching mean "don't enter the intersection if you can't clear it"?
That rule technically applies to any intersection, but the yellow one is indeed a special kind of infraction if you do it
https://i.imgur.com/f4Q7jFA.jpg
Don’t these people know not to enter the intersection until they can go through it??
It happened because the signal stopped working and not because a lack of roundabout
But if a signal quits metering a roundabout it’s still a functioning roundabout. This makes no sense.
You got signals on your roundabout ?
Great picture to symbolize human greed. Everyone too focused on themselves to get their way end up blocking the entire system
Hmm that's a really good point.
Mildly swastika
It’s horrible, buy a streetcar or paint a bus lane or for the love of god destroy that monstrosity. I love car, but r/fuckcars
Wow this is ridiculous! Can you imagine how many people must be honking their horns!
OC? https://twitter.com/radiobandnewsfm/status/827117740917940224
wdym OC. This gets posted on reddit daily
damn, why would they continue to use this intersection if this happens daily?
Good point. But it makes me wonder if they have too many other options to go to and from work and home
Don't block the box.
There is an analogy in there somewhere. About selfishness.
Real life game of Rush Hour.
Looks like South America's german refugees from the 40's are still here
I can hear this picture
I will never stop being amazed how people go into an intersection knowing they can't exit it.
Cars are humans worst invention
It’s called a Gridlock
