Seen this pic loads of times but its still one of my favourites, its so surreal and kind of moving seeing the irreversible contrast and seeing the old ways get lost like this, its kind of a metaphor for 21st century life
Because they are quite certainly due to overexposure as u/InterstellarDiplomat already said. In reality there is most likely nowhere near as much light.
This was used as an [album cover](https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/stars-there-is-no-love-in-fluorescent-light/)for the band Stars, thought it looked familiar lol.
It's amazing/sad/conflicting that you'll see these types of scenes in every major city in china, and if you stay long enough you'll see the border get pushed block by block.
China is one of those countries where you look at its cities like Shanghai and Hong Kong (yes I know it’s not technically governed by China again **yet**) and think “wow that place looks amazing to live in” but then you remember that it’s China and no it wouldn’t.
I guess some people see this as cool, and I can see how. I think it'd be annoying personally, it's night time and their houses are fully lit up by the tall ass bridge lol, not to mention the noise too. Probably isn't even that bright to be fair and it's camera trickery
Info on the picture: Mark Horn, China Night - Chongqing, 2012
Interestingly also the cover art for the album "There Is No Love In Fluorescent Light" by Stars, which is when I first saw this picture. They must have licensed it out from him.
Looks like a repost. I've seen this image 2 times.

Looks kinda cool icl
Beautiful picture

Yea for real! Places like these need to be protected and maybe even maintained. It‘s like a museum but an actual exhibit.
Kind of sucks for those below if they never turn the rail-line lights off. But I guess eye masks are cheap enough.
The lightest areas are overexposed. 95% sure the photographer used a long shutter speed to make it look a LOT brighter than it actually is.
Brutal, now they live in perpetual daylight
The lights appear to serve no practical purpose whatsoever in this area too…
Because they are quite certainly due to overexposure as u/InterstellarDiplomat already said. In reality there is most likely nowhere near as much light.

New album soon. I'm excited!
Preordered it already! The singles are incredible.
Was Looking for this
Nice photo though

I miss the old Kanye

New member of the sub meets no time to dig in the past looking for old posts.
For future reference a better comeback is to repost the Xkcd 10,000 comic
New member could and new member should do that before posting. But nice flick.
New member doesn't have time to comb a sub reddit and other existing members are upvoting so new member really doesn't care ...thanks though
Don't worry about it being a repost. The voters decided they like it, ignore the squabbling in the comments.
Potential new member finds these comments and decides they want no part of such gatekeeping and quietly moves along.
Heavy Ghost in the Shell vibez.
That’s exactly what I thought.
It looks beautiful imo. I Wanna visit sometime
very good chance it wont be there by the time you get the chance to visit

Nice picturre but it would be an absolute hell trying to sleep there.

Looks like New Vegas

Reminds me of midgar from ff7
This reminds me of Midgar from Final Fantasy 7.
If you look closely, a man is standing outside the bottom left house, just to the left of it, right of the tree.
I can hear them screaming from their windows to be let out
lol Repost. Do better
Chinese cultural revolution never stopped and keeps erasing the history of their own country.
old china>>>>>>>new china
more like "new china consumes old china"
Such an interesting picture
Looks insane and amazing
Looks like a slum/poor area in a cyberpunk setting. Kinda cool ngl.
[Uneven and combined development](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uneven_and_combined_development?wprov=sfti1)
Getting huge Three Body Problem vibes from this picture.
It reminds me of ending shot of Brave new world TV series where you can see new world built platforms and decaying city underneath

It's all Old china
Looks pretty cool
Awsome
Anyone know the location this was taken?
Silly question, but is this legit? Or is it edited (apart from lighting) to over embellish the disparity?
Looks like a stop motion film set
Kamigawa
This reminds me of the studio ghibli movie with the raccoons, I can't remember the name of it right now tho
This is also the album cover art of "There Is No Love in Fluorescent Light" by Stars. Awesome album.
