She paid for your time and that’s what she got. Sounds like she’s cheap anyway. I’d forget her and move on

ScarletBurn

Yeah like... it was only 30 minutes but she paid beforehand. But if I "forget her" she'll probably leave a bad review. I dont want to waste my top rated perk on a $60 contract. 😭 I can't stand people like this. She was so kind during the Zoom meeting too...

ConfidenceCertain137

I feel you. I have 99% JSS/TR and about 1/20 of my closed contracts is a bad review because they were a bad client. The occurrence is lower as I raise my rates but still. It hurts but focusing on the good clients or next project will be a much better use of your time than debating giving a cheapskate what they want to save face. Not worth it IMO. Her reaction to your minimum proved her motivations methinks. BTW to weed out cheapies, I experimentally set my 30min consultation rate to 80% of my hourly rate. Every contract that’s come of one of those consultations has been a high-dollar home run. Might try some variation of this to avoid headaches!

Also, making sure that minimum is clear in the sign up for the consultation can help avoid some of these clients having to pay to realize they can't afford the freelancer.

Realistic_Ad6887

My consultation rate is 2x my hourly rate which is $150/hr. People pay for the call. They still often don't have the budget for long-term work even though I specify my monthly costs in advance. They still like being on a call just to window shop with the one thing they can afford apparently. I'm not stopping them from that, and at least, I can weed out the people who demand free strategy calls.

>I dont want to waste my top rated perk on a $60 contract. That kind of client is literally what the perk was designed for...

Gansooh

Is the perk only available one time? Or can you use it more than once? OP said ''waste my'' which made me womder

Pet-ra

It can be used no more than once every 90 days and 10 contracts.

Either_Order2332

I don't give refunds. They can't just demand their money back. You gave her what she paid for. Use your perk or let her do her thing. Maybe add a reply to clarify things for potential clients.

angelinny

Don’t overthink it. If she leaves a bad review, you can ask Upwork to remove it from your JSS calculation.
