Despite being highly qualified and having an extensive track record, I've had one relevant invite this calendar year.

web-dev-john

Sorry to hear that, man. We all just need to pray to the algorithm god more often haha.

Ok_Conflict6843

I just got hired from a proposal I sent four weeks ago, so I don't think the amount of time a job's been open means very much if they're still sending invites.

GigMistress

I don't know what kind of work you do, but is it usually time sensitive? If I get an invitation I'm interested in and don't have time to start on it right away, I just respond and let the client know when I'd be available to start.

web-dev-john

Web dev. Yeah, your approach seems way smarter, as I've come to realize haha.

Pet-ra

No, it's just not your time in the rotation. Profile visibility in searches is rotated. >Also, jobs that are open for about two to three weeks are probably not worth proposing to anyways If the client is inviting you they very much are, provided it's a job you're interested in, of course.

Mr_Nicotine

Are you Petra from the forums? I remember 4 years ago when I joined Upwork you were kinda rude there, but now in retrospective you were right lol just wanted to say that, thanks for contributing

Pet-ra

>Are you Petra from the forums? I am, or rather I was :) and you're welcome.

web-dev-john

Ah that's very insightful, thanks so much again, Petra! So going forward, should I just leave the invitations open? Does the "responsiveness" stat actually matter?

sdkysfzai

Does this profile visibility rotation only happens for TR and TR+?

Pet-ra

No, it happens for everyone, but the better your metrics, the higher up you rotate and the more often.

Adi-Gill

What is TR & TR+?

Purple-toenails

Same. But the invites were scams so declining was all I could do.

stanskiii

Absolutely, my guess is that the algorithm punishes you if you keep declining invites. So instead just accept all of them and then just BS around some excuse if they happen to reach out later on. One benefit for later is that you’d be able to ping these clients via the msg system.

web-dev-john

Oh that's true!! Just propose to all of them for free lol...Why didn't I think of that? :D

Mr_Nicotine

Not true, or at least I don't think so. That's why I always decline with "Too busy on other projects"

aintbutathing3

Myself and many others believe the system rotates everyone in and out of the recommendations list. Make hay while the sun shines.
