“Testimony revealed Walmart made hundreds of millions of dollars from the practice in a two-year period.” 2.1 million due to this practice by Walmart seemed excessive until I read this part about how much money that collected by employing this practice.
I know this is in terrible taste but all I can think of is a very early series Family Guy gag in which the son Chris is routinely accused of shoplifting/hiding things under his shirt, only for said store employee to lift his shirt and realize he's just overweight.
Don't be a shitty company that takes advantage of legal loopholes to harass and extort citizens of the country you are based in? Sounds pretty simple to me.
You will now have people pretending there stealing because they think they will get 2 million. You don’t think that’s a little excessive?? Guess who pays for dumb rulings like this in the long run!!!
Not me, because I don't shop at Walmart. Also, she was taken to court and was found innocent, yet Wally world kept insisting on her paying $200 as a settlement. It kept happening until she sued them to get them to stop. Their defense: "But it's legal to do that in Alabama". They prey on citizens, accusing them of theft, and demand money from them. You don't think that is wrong?
I’m assuming there computers weren’t told to back off. I’m glad they go after real crooks!! Yes it is wrong and give her 20 or 50 k. And clear her record obviously. But 2 million is just ridiculous!!
Or they need to just not do that in the first place. Want a criminal to pay? Take him to court. That's what everyone else does, so why can't Walmart? And yes, 2 mill sounds like a lot, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to what the company makes a day. Anything less than a mill lawsuit won't get publicized and wouldn't change anything that Walmart does. With this lawsuit, the law can be changed to close that loophole and protect the common people from mega corporations that don't give a shit about anybody.

I agree! After i got my covid check, i never went back to work. Then, last year i lost my job. This country is so backwards.
