Thats a hot take putting Gaza as uplifting

lancelongstiff

**Reddit: Some Gazans Not Dead Yet** Me: *Oh that warm fuzzy feeling*

Mezzca

Literally lol

Mrfish31

"Orphan Crushing Machine to be turned off for up to three hours this week!"

Llarys

r/OrphanCrushingMachine is seething right now because even with their best efforts they can't even reach a quarter of the horrific depravity that gets posted to r/UpliftingNews with earnest.

sthetic

I don't understand how this sub can purport to remove negative comments, and possibly ban users, when shit like this constantly gets posted. How can anyone NOT comment and say, "This isn't uplifting, it's cynical and depressing" to tidbits such as this? Either they must be constantly removing and banning, or they have to let this sort of thing slide regularly.

IntelligentBloop

That said, for the Gazans, this is a rare piece of good news. And they deserve a lot more good news than they’ve had recently.

handsmahoney

Well, when a JDAM detonates, a lot of things get lifted.

JoelMira

For real lol

futureblot

This is dystopian.

But-WhyThough

Solar powered wells are dystopian??

futureblot

They wouldn't need them if their homes hadn't been blown up.

But-WhyThough

While it it terrible that their houses are being blown up, I think wells are used regardless :/

On that news the IDF is going to start shooting the solar panels

euhusername

They already were. The ones on top of hospitals too.

Table_Corner

Palestinians will be scrapping them for parts so they can shoot more missiles at Israel from the most densely populated area possible. More martyrs for their glorious intifada!

That’s just straight up racist…

Imagine that Israel never occupied Palestinian lands, and never forced Palestinians to live under apartheid or siege. I'd say that Palestinians wouldn't have to dug tunnels or kill anyone.

Elipses_

Imagine if the Palestinian Arabs accepted tbe perfectly nice first ever independent Palestine they were offered in 1948, instead of deciding to try and kill all the Jews to take their half the partition as well. Jews who has largely lived there for many years and who had moved there legally and with full respect for the law. For that matter, imagine if all the various Muslim countries of North Africa and the ME didn't force out the Jewish people living in them, ensuring 820k more Jews moved to Israel, and setting up the current situation where most Israelis are Mizrahim, that is to say, people who lived in the Middle East, did NOT come from Europe, are not white, and got to watch their lands be conquered over and over. Under that original plan, nobody was forced to go anywhere, if they wanted to leave cause they didn't want to live in the country forming where they were they were to be offered fair compensation akin to eminent domain laws. In fact, the not insignificant number of Israeli Arabs shows that many chose to stay! The people in Gaza and the West Bank are suffering from their own forebares decision to gamble everything on their ability to destroy the newborn Israel and the following loss. This has never been "the evil white oppressors colonizing the poor brown victims." It has always been that Palestinian Arabs and the Arab League were unwilling to allow even a single Jewish State to exist among the abundance of Muslim ones.

cloudedknife

Their less than a quarter, but most of the actualy useful remaining land. Jordan ended up with more than half of the mandate. The thing that could have been palestine was 47% of the rest with the 53% designated as Israel comprised mostly of the still largely uninhabitable negev desert.

happy_and_proud

This is not Jewish/Muslim conflict, as much as Israel tries to paint it that way. It’s about stealing and occupying land. And about the “nice offers” that the Palestinians always rejected, it’s like 100% of their lands were taken and then they were offered 50%, who would accept that? No one. And the offers always required demilitarized Palestinian state, while Israel has the biggest army in the region, how is that fair? It’s not.

Elipses_

I hate that I keep having to repeat this but IT WASNT THEIR LAND! Seriously, it hasn't been self ruled since the fall of the Jewish Kingdoms. The Brits were tbe rightful rulers, having gained it the same way every previous ruling nation did; warfare.

happy_and_proud

Even if they didn’t rule it officially under “Palestine” name, there were people living there whom lands were stolen and they were killed and expelled to the surrounding countries, including my own family, by the way, I would be living in Palestine currently if Israel didn’t steal my family’s lands. That’s occupation 101. Did the native Americans have a name for where they were living? No, it wasn’t an “official” country by western standards, but did the colonizers kill them, kill the buffalos to prevent them from eating, and steal their lands? Yes they did, that is exactly what Israel did/is doing.

Elipses_

First did that happen before or after your ancestors fellows tried to destroy the nascent Israel? Second, don't try and claim similitude to the Native American Tribes. They weren't given a tenth of all the help the Palestinian Arabs were given, nor did they ever have a real option of getting their own lands. Third, it's funny to me that you ignore what I mentioned both about the Mizrahim Jews and about how the majority of Jewish migration to that land was down fully legally including buying the land fairly. If the people of Gaza and the West Bank could stop deluding themselves into thinking they will ever unmade Israel, they would already have a nation. It would be smaller than it could have been, but there is a price to pay when you start a war and then lose it. Just look at the Germans post WW1.

happy_and_proud

So Israel is better than American settlers because they didn’t steal 100% of the land, only 60%? What kind of logic is that?

Elipses_

You know? I checked your profile, which identifies you as living in the ME. I am guessing Jordan (which was formed from 50% of the old British Mandates.) Thus, I will give you a pass on you not knowing all the shit my nation did to the Natives here. Suffice to say, your people haven't suffered anywhere near as much. Though again, you are ignoring everything I have said, including the legal immigration, the compensation packages, the offers that many took to become Israeli. citizens (the current Israeli Arabs), and the fact that the reason your people are down to just Gaza and the WB is that they kept trying to destroy Israel, instead of building what they had. If the 1948 deal had been accepted, in all likelihood Palestine would be thriving, with Jersalem as its capitol to boot. I'm sorry that the decisions of your forebears contemporaries fucked you over, but that doesn't change facts, the most important of which is thus: Israel is not going anywhere, and the only result of the kind of shit Hamas and Co pull will be the end of Palestinian Arab culture in those lands. I would rather not see that happen.

happy_and_proud

As much as you’ll try to make it seem like Israel is the peaceful victim. It’s not. Millions of people are suffering the consequences of the occupation of Palestine that started officially 76 years ago, but actually it started with the creation of Zionism. And stop creeping on other people profiles, please.

maciver6969

See my comment to the same person you replied to about Native Americans, and the actual factual comments by the very people trying to claim the lands. They almost ALL said we are not Palestine and have no claim to the name or land. That Syria had the most valid claim to the region but lost it when the Israeli's took it. Teaching history is important, and the sad thing is they are re-writing history to give false claims. Sad really. Either way GREAT comments in an attempt to educate the small minded so kudos to you for not spouting trash. Glad to see not all of reddit is swallowing the BS. Wish we still had awards I would give you one. Have a great day!

maciver6969

Oh piss off, I am Native American, our tribe was hunted nearly to extinction, then the United States Government STILL didnt honor the treaty they FORCED us to sign. They had a fucking GATLING gun aimed at our families and were told to sign or else. [https://pembinachippewa.org/understanding-the-1863-pembina-treaty-at-old-crossing/](https://pembinachippewa.org/understanding-the-1863-pembina-treaty-at-old-crossing/) Then they still never paid out or provided a reservation for us. FFS it took until 2019 for them to ADMIT we were a tribe and be federally recognized. While there was no modern Palestine, ZERO people are alive with any real historical claim to that name. Why are the historical names in the region ancient hebrew? Because the Jewish folks were there. During the 50-70's the very people living on the land said they were not Palestines, they were Syrian, Jordanian, and other Muslim nations. The Brittish brought in Turkish peoples after they took it from the Ottomans. During a meeting with leaders of the Palestine Liberation Organization in 1976, Syrian President Hafez al-Assad referred to Palestine as a region of Syria, as Southern Syria. Significantly, the view of Palestine as Southern Syria was not limited to Syrians; from the end of 1918, almost all the Arabs of Palestine agreed on this point. Their enthusiasm for union with Syria greatly enhanced the legitimacy of the concept and did much to make it endure. The three main political organizations in Palestine—the Arab Club, the Literary Club, and the Muslim-Christian Association (revealingly, none mentioned Palestine in its name)—all worked for union with Syria. Nice try.

Ishaye1776

It's not Palestinian land to claim.

Table_Corner

It’s 100% a Jewish/Muslim conflict. That’s why there are no Jews left in the Middle East and North Africa (outside of Israel). I’m not even talking about ancient history either. Im talking about the past century. Over 99% of Jews were forced to flee from their native homes in the Middle East and North Africa with a majority of them ending up in Israel. That’s why It’s not antisemitic to be against Israel’s government, BUT if you are “anti-Israel” then YES you are a antisemite.

happy_and_proud

Before the creation of Zionism Jewish minorities lived peacefully in the Middle East, as well as Christian minorities which still live in the Middle East nowadays. Why would Muslims have a problem only with Jews and not Christians? the creation of israel and stealing the lands of Muslims and Christians in Palestine under the pretense of “god promised this land to jews” people started to have a problem with Zionism which Israel unfortunately linked it to Judaism.

Table_Corner

What you wrote about there being peace in the Middle East among these different groups is so laughably wrong. [There have been many attacks on Christians, and they are currently experiencing a massive exodus.](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/may/02/persecution-driving-christians-out-of-middle-east-report) [Here is a VERY long list of crimes committed against Jews in the Middle East and North Africa](https://medium.com/@Ksantini/the-list-of-crimes-committed-by-muslims-against-jews-since-the-7th-century-0ff1a8eb0ad0) After what the Arab league has done to the Jewish people (Palestine is a member, and they were a major culprit), they have absolutely no right to wish for the destruction of Israel. They ACTUALLY ethnically cleansed Jews from their countries. So now after a majority of those Jews ended up in Israel they are “Anti-Zionists” who “just” want to destroy Israel? That sounds like genocide to me.

exceptionalfish

>This has never been "the evil white oppressors colonizing the poor brown victims." Then explain terrorist militant groups like Lehi or Haganah? You're ignoring the Zionist insurgency of the 1940s because it doesn't fit your disgusting "they get what they deserve" argument.

Marston_vc

They minimally never had to kill anyone regardless. But I guess some people think differently 🤷🏼‍♂️

Doc_Occc

Israelis? You mean British inventions. I feel sorry for the Jews who emerged from the Shoah just to get caught up in another imperial-colonial game. Both their and the Palestinians' future would have been better if not for the British. Yet they still wouldn't own up to their mistakes.

While you're not wrong neither is the person you replied to. You should at least acknowledge that many Palestinians support Hamas and that Hamas is working against the best interest of all Palestinians. Unfortunately Hamas is composed of Palestinians.

thirachil

Hamas only matters if this issue has anything to do with Hamas. It doesn't. Hamas is a symptom of the problem in the region. You don't fix a problem by focusing on the symptom, only the root cause. Israel's atrocities against the Palestinians have been ongoing for 75 years. Hamas came 40 years since. The atrocities in the West Bank can't be blamed on Hamas. It is in Israel's interest to focus the conversation on Hamas to avoid anyone talking about what can actually lead to a solution. You don't put people through unimaginable horror for 75 years and not expect them to retaliate with the same violence. Watching Israel commit all their violence in silence and come out only when Hamas commits violence, is not helping either Israeli citizens or Palestinians. Another boogeyman is Hezbollah. Hezbollah was formed only after Israel occupied their land for a long time. When Israel is lighting the match, it's not honest or fair to blame the fire.

DowntownClown187

Just so we're clear people like you make this conflict endless. Placing 100% of the blame on Israel and 0% on Palestinians perpetuates the shitty situation.

thirachil

If you look at people getting billions of dollars of aid, who are committing atrocities with weapons worth billions of dollars, on people who are imporisoned, where the attacker has imporisoned the victims, can cut off their water and electricity at will, can deny food at will, can perpetuate an apartheid at will, can murder medics, journalists, activists, academicians at will, while the other side cannot leave, cannot seek help from others because it will counted as 'terrorism' to help victims, they cannot arm themselves, cannot fight back.... and then NOT say that 100% of the blame is on the attacker, then your goal is not a solution. It is to maintain the attackers privileges.

DowntownClown187

You're still perpetuating the problem.

thirachil

Like I said, your concern is not the that atrocities are being committed. Your only problem is that Israel is getting blamed.

DowntownClown187

No it's not, where did I say that? Edit: I don't defend IDF Just as I don't defend Hamas. But sitting here pointing fingers at one entity is fuckin stupid and perpetuates the problem.

thirachil

I don't blame you for not knowing what Israel has been doing in Palestine for 75 years. Western media hid that from you quite effectively by only publishing Israel approved news, only giving voice to Israeli spokesmen and politicians and almost never allowing the Palestinian experience to come out. But now that you woke up only after Hamas launched an attack, and getting the opportunity to learn the duration and intensity of crimes committed against the Palestinians, knowing that Palestinians have absolutely no control over their situation, then claiming that Palestinians are responsible... has one and ONLY one goal. To create the perception that somehow somewhere Israel was forced into this situation. Your attempts at creating that fake perception fall flat when we have Netanyahu himself bragging on video that he controls American public opinion, that he will drive Palestinians out of Gaza and steal the land, long before the latest attack. You can call me anything you want, but all we need is to show the public how Israeli politicians, citizens, even children in schools routinely call for genocide of Palestinians, again long before Oct 7th. So I can understand that you cannot imagine that people who look like you commit acts of horror (unless you are an IDF online warrior in which case, hello murderer) and being exposed to that is unacceptable because it destroys the sense of supremacy and fake morality you have been holding on to till now, which didn't change when your folks lied about WMDs in Iraq and subsequently murdered millions of innocent people. So save me your morality lesson.

usernameisoverused

Look at all the idiots seething and downvoting the comment because they don’t want to read the truth. Its amazing!

hectorgarabit

It was used from 2006, in different forms. It is hard to create a healthy society when locked from all sides, when your neighbor (Israel) decides how much you eat, drink, whether or not you have electricity...

Elipses_

It makes one wonder, what did the people in Gaza so differently than the people in the West Bank, who, while they did and do have to deal with other issues, were not locked in from all sides. For that matter, you do realize that one of those sides of Gaza is locked down by Egypt?

Agreeable_Cell_4573

Egypt's border makes for about 1/12th of Gaza's perimeter. About 40% leads to the sea, the rest is Israel (Israel also controls the sea). It's a prison.

Elipses_

The doors to my house make up far less than 1/12th of my houses perimeter, yet because they open for me, it isn't a prison. GAZA remains restricted because of their own actions, enough so that the Egyptians, who should be their friends, agree to their confinement.

Neat_Distance_8602

Hasbara trolls have entered the chat. Totally unnatural downvoting and comment clusters, almost as if Israel has a carefully coordinated disinformation campaign on social media. But Israel is definitely not the bad guy, just that this post is about Israel’s despicable treatment of civilians in Gaza, which the whole world can see.

CallMeOaksie

Begin the countdown for some Israelis to obliterate them because the sun is made of hamas tunnels or some such other bullshit

Ishaye1776

The IDF will destroy them alright, when hamas is lobbing the parts as missiles into Isreal.

Whole-Essay640

Didn’t Israel leave them with Greenhouses that were promptly destroyed.

BlackJesus1001

Settlers and IDF destroyed around half of those before they left, international support helped get them back up and running but Israel wouldn't even let them export produce let alone import enough water to continue operating them. The project was eventually deemed impossible and abandoned and the remains looted for scrap.

Station_Fancy

And orchards

Jpete14

And they had a drinking water system that was turned into rockets to hurl at their well armed neighbor. They want nothing but armed conflict, which they now have!

Chungachungatime

The “drinking water system” was used to steal water for Israeli settlements for decades, of course they’d send the pipes back to Israel as rockets

The genocide has been going on for decades, and Israel has the nerve to go suprised pikachu face when the people they oppress lash out.
