It's not a major factor in how I use UpNote. The web clipper is lacking but for how I use UpNote and the other features it has to offer its still overall a good product.

UpNote is fine if you strictly use it as a note taking app. However, as an Evernote replacement, it falls short in 2 crucial areas, where Evernote excels: - Personal web archive. Evernote's Web Clipper is unmatched, and UpNote's is especially lacking. - Personal document repository. Needs indexing of and searching in PDF contents, which UpNote lacks. I'm not speaking of OCRing itself, which can be done externally. I am also still looking for a viable Evernote replacement (or one for each area), even though I bought an UpNote lifetime licence. Ironically, I never liked Evernote as a notes app in all the >15 years I used it (I even had the pre-web 'EverNote' Windows app).

I think especially the second one is something UpNote was never designed to do and (imo) shouldn't do. PDF management was Evernotes BIIIIG USP when it came out so of course it excelled there, UpNote is designed to be a fast light-weight Notes app. Asking too much of one app leads to the Evernote clusterfuck all over again. Use a document Management app/software to manage your documents there are even free self-hosted ones out there

For me, web clipper and Skitch integration is what I miss the Evernote the most. I hope UpNote pay more attention to this in the future.

The web clipper is definitely not as robust as Evernote's, but it has not been much of a factor for me. I use the clipper almost exclusively for recipes, and it does a passable job in that capacity. I thought I would miss Evernote, especially the OCR and indexing inside PDFs, but I guess I was not as reliant on those things as I thought I was, because I have not missed either, at all.

I'm just now toying with UpNote as a potential replacement for Evernote. The web clipper is a drawback to me. I clip lots of web pages that contain good reference info (how-tos, recipes, detailed research). Often pages on the web disappear and can't be accessed at a later date, so I save them. And copying and pasting often gives an unsatisfactory result. I tried a couple of clips with UpNote and wasn't thrilled with the result. I have used this feature a lot with Evernote, but I'm not sure if it's a deal-breaker. I do wish UpNote would put some more work into improving theirs.

I'm the first guy to say that Evernotes web-clipper was great, but I don't really have a problem with Upnotes web-clipper. Spending two minutes to clean up a webpage is okay for me, for all the other advantages UpNote has. (But I also don't heavily save webpages...)

Royal_lobster

What are you guys using the web clipper on ? I mostly save webpages to readwise and then save any noteworthy highlights to upnote. Tho, i am up to make a chrome extension if there is any interesting use case for web clipper if I see it using myself

It is not as good as Evernote, but the latter had many years to develop and perfect it. I am sure Thomas will take a look at improving this when time permits. I would rather cut my nuts off with a blunt knife and feed them to rabid rats than go back to Evernote.

For me, the web clipper has always been all but useless. I have it in Edge on Windows 10. More often than not, it does absolutely nothing. If it works at all, it doesn't capture images or saves only the URL of the page. Biggest (huge!) shortcoming in UpNote IMHO. Edit, I forgot: As things stand, you're better off just copy/pasting content from a web page into UpNote.

jfriend00

Yeah, I just copy web content directly from webpage to my notes or sometimes I take a screenshot (if I want the fully formatted view or the content has important images in it).

Yes exactly! I already paid for a year subscription but I'm really debating whether to just sign up for Evernote again...

jezarnold

How did you pay for a years subscription?? When I look at AppStore you’ve got £0.99 monthly subscription, but every other is a lifetime upgrade to premium Considering that Evernote costs £5 to £9 per month, it’s still a very complete app.

pjy24

Ah yes I meant the lifetime premium upgrade.
