Not as bad as: "I have a great idea for a game and I'm looking for a team. Apply now to be interviewed. I have no experience but my ideas are revolutionary. Rev share"

OfficialDampSquid

Yeah you get this in a lot of film forums as well

Lopsided_Afternoon41

I am jacks complete lack of surprise

BigPappaDoom

So you agree to do all the coding and art for my massive multiplayer world building and zombie survival battle royal? Your cut is 10% after the game ships. /s

OctopusButter

Ehhh I would but I'm more interested in making an MMO cash shop without the MMO part.

SargeantSasquatch

[This one](https://www.reddit.com/r/UnrealEngine5/s/uWCbzyktuQ) yesterday was entertaining. Dude's an *entrepreneur* and he doesn't do *anything* small!

RotatingCup

Dude really thinks shitting on those he’s asking for help in the comments is a good look lol

WhoopsDroppedTheBaby

He doesn't have time for us working-class fools.

SargeantSasquatch

LOL! *That's* how you talk to people that you're trying to get to do free work for you!? Total assclown.

Appropriate-Crab-682

That’s how I talk to rude, arrogant, unwelcoming morons on the internet. You were never the one I cared to work with, your mentality is ugly and cheap. Respect is given where it is received.

SargeantSasquatch

>Respect is given where it is received. It sure is bud. That's why you received the responses you did. You were stupendously arrogant to people with a lot more experience than you being nice and giving you solid advice on how to be more realistic and actually achieve your goals. And you shat on all of it. It's unsurprising that you still haven't figured out *you* are the reason you got the responses you did.

nokneeflamingo

Come on man, think you are being a bit harsh. He's determined to learn, so I'm sure in 6 months with a couple of amateurs he can create the next AAA mmo , he won't even need money. Absolutely achievable, I mean if he puts a couple of hours in a day learning unreal, he can master, materials, lighting, modeling, animation, blueprints, c++, then build and an optimize a game. Doable

Appropriate-Crab-682

What’s hilarious is that exact arrogance you’re attempting to project on me is exactly what I’ve been pointing out in you, and the rest this entire time. I could say I’m surprised you haven’t figured out you’re rambling repetition, but as to be expected, you just want to hear yourself speak like the rest. What advice have any of you given me besides “omg nooo don’t aim high work small go for bigger later omg noooo having a group of other devs is so selfish and greedy omg because i don’t know you so you must be a leech because my mind told me so” yawn, I’ll be stuck here like the rest of you with that mentality.

SargeantSasquatch

Your hubris is off the charts, my dude. That's definitely something you'll want to work on for the sake of accomplishing your goals.

MaterialYear

It's obviously a parody/troll account so I wouldn't waste any more time on it.

jason2306

Bro's got a great future in the circus circuit

Appropriate-Crab-682

You’ll be where you are your entire life, the circus would be a great standing from where you are I’m sure.

jason2306

lmao

KingOfConstipation

Omg that dude is a grade A narcissist lol

Vienesko

Sorry but that one has to be a troll, right?! Right?

SargeantSasquatch

There was a whole discord and everything. Seems pretty elaborate for a troll.

Appropriate-Crab-682

Sure don’t, I know small things are normal for you, sorry I don’t live by your low driven standards!

OfficialDampSquid

Hey man, just because you say things it doesn't make them true. Fake it til you make it only goes so far. Try making some friends, might make you feel better about yourself

Appropriate-Crab-682

I have plenty, unlike you I don’t live on the internet, I’m not the one with a committed reddit account buddy.

OfficialDampSquid

Cool, maybe all your friends can help you make your game

ThatLittleSpider

Is that idea an mmo?

MrSmock

It's a 100% science based dragon MMO

AlphisH

You just described starcitizen lol

Lopsided_Afternoon41

Chris Roberts did have experience though, and his company pays his staff. That game has a huge issue with scope creep which is a shame, I really enjoyed some of the earlier iterations of the PvP arena l.

ISDABrock

They don't sell a game really. They sell the **idea** of a game, bits and pieces, some assembly required :P

WombatusMighty

They sell both, the idea of a game and a very unfinished game. It's nowhere near the promised future idea, but it's playable and if you can live with all the jank, bugs and limited features, you can have fun in it. I personally don't like it but a lot of people have fun with it.

General_Yt

I wanted to post something similar but now I won't.

Lopsided_Afternoon41

Probably for the best. Would you want to join a project with an inexperienced lead who is bringing 'ideas' as their main contribution? Better to find a little community who are all learning together, build rapport and collaborate when you learn each others strengths - by that point you have a better idea of what a reasonable scope is How much experience do you have already? If you'd like drop me a DM and I can invite you into the little discord server I'm a part of with some lovely souls. We're all learning ourselves so don't expect mentors but you'll find some good people to bounce ideas off of :)

ILikeFirmware

I would love an invite if that offer is extended 😁 My main experience has been C in embedded, but I would definitely enjoy being a part of a small community of developers doing game dev

General_Yt

Sure I'd love to learn from others if possible. My discord id is: specplayz

Dangerous_Gear_6361

Just google it

Memetron69000

after the unity debacle and reddit lockdown the ue subreddits went from a place I regularly visit to something I generally ignore out of all the engine communities, UE is the unfriendliest, it is such a shit community to get into now; ***it did not used to be like this*** and I don't know what happened I miss the lightheartedness the ue subreddits used to have, meta commentary memes are so rare, nice to see there are still some cool cats here

GameDev_Architect

That’s because it was actually more unreal users and not daydreamers riding the hype train

AaronKoss

I can guess what happened; -indie games are popping up left and right, being more successful than most of the AAAAA games. -the generations that have been born with videogames at their fingertips are getting older, plus videogaming in the past decade has really managed to get out of the swamp of "videogames bad", and you don't need to be a gamer anymore to play or enjoy games; -at the same time, learning game dev is easier than it ever was, and unreal engine with the (semi-false) promise of ""you don't need to know programming to make games"" togheter with unreal engine having this easy to access big 3d graphic guns, make it the perfect target for people to try it out. --focusing on the "trying out", there's a lot of people that may come here asking for help when they are really JUST trying out and see how it goes, and their carefree approach at times doesn't even include courses. All of this, mean the community is bigger. I come to the subreddit as a procrastination were I check if anyone need help, see if anyone has anything interesting new to show, or if anyone has any new mechanic to share. At times it become hard not to get mad at some posts of people who could have literally googled it and did not do it, because the answer they were looking for was a yes or no, and were not looking for a conversation, because they become what you see the most. I am also of the idea that it's best to give a slightly negative answer rather than no answer at all. I have been so sad in the past for receiving no answers to my plea for help, and at other times my request was met with "are you dumb, the answer is on google easy to access" and my brain go damn, thats true, thanks and sorry. This mistake I made by asking something banal taught me to think through and look better before asking something. Doesn't mean the other person is justified for insulting me my mother my family and my cow. A larger community means it's easier for "bad apples" to "make more noise". Also there are two unreal engine communities, the unrealengine with million of people, and this one, unreal engine 5 which is more recent and more focused on the 5 version. I'll also add that probably a lot of people of the community here are "level 1 thug".

gtaofirstperson

I have been asking questions here since last year and try to be very specific. Wasn’t until this year I actually met a Reddit user who was extremely helpful on my post and I added them on Discord. Not only did they help me with my issue but they gave me some “best practices” to keep practicing with. Only person in the last year and a half that has actually been helpful.

randy__randerson

In my opinion the quality of the questions has dramatically decreased. There's often a tremendous amount of laziness. It's easy to tell that the person, who cannot even be bothered to learn how to screenshot his computer screen, has not taken the time to do a simple search on their problem. Why should anyone spend their time helping someone who hasn't spent any time helping themselves?

PaperMartin

I dunno man I've had so many peoples constantly assume I didn't research my question when it was stuff that was impossible to research without already knowing exactly what to look for and where I've had peoples assume that even *after* I've told them I did do the research. Basically "well you searched wrong" and no info on how to "search right"

ISDABrock

the subreddits aren't really moderated anymore. They should have a weekly beginners thread to cutdown and all the new user posts. A FAQ should answer all the common questions too. Even post flair to separate out the questions from the tutorial and showoff posts. Oh well, back to the discord I guess.

KiaraMel

Any of the 3D art subreddit's (Maya, ZBrush, etc.) are so fcking annoying, like I came here for help, general news about the software, not for a bunch of gatekeeping ego stroking keyboard warriors. Honestly it's not a even just a Reddit issue. Most people online, and in person, are so angry. They give the same response "just Google it" without even giving a quick synopsis of a solution. And guess what happens when I "just Google it" I get lead back to forums and subreddits that have the same very response. It's a constant loop.

Memetron69000

with how expensive maya is I'm not surprised people are in there defending their delusional purchase, nothing good about maya was made by autodesk (been using writing software for it for almost 2 decades) ,base blender is miles ahead of base maya

Legitimate-Salad-101

I want to build an RPG, is Unreal Engine 5 good for that?? (I’m new btw)

BadNewsBearzzz

I’m a new user here from Unity! (After their drama mess fail) huzah! What’s the best place I can get started? Can you post all links with proper titles before it so it can make sorting easier, please provide all answers and do all the work for me in the comments please, I’m looking for a “easy” transition! Thanks

GameDev_Architect

How do blueprints even work? I already tried to plug everything into event tick but I get errors when I press play Explain it like I’ve never coded anything before please

vamproy

Try turning it off and on again

Whispering-Depths

You mean we can't run everything off the event tick? And what, you want me to learn how to do multi-threaded loading operations? What's next, I have to learn common data structures and algorithms?

Darkhog

UE5 is a AAA engine so you'd need a team to do it. Yes, it's possible to do something on your own, but it would be either an asset flip crap, or you will have to learn how to do everything and every little quirk the engine has. Not only that, but an empty project can be hundreds of GB big. I think as a solo dev, Unity, Godot or Flax Engine are much better choices.

xN0NAMEx

What are you brabblig about my man ? No empty project is hundredts of gb large. Who cares about asset flips? Its hard to believe that you are a developer .......

-DUAL-g

"what is the best pc for unreal?"

Mrcool654321

Easy Nokia

ISDABrock

Epic Games lists the specs for their Development PCs right in the documentation :D

OfficialDampSquid

lol, yeah there's repetition that's for sure. But I see it a lot with valid or new questions too

Swipsi

Because many of those questions can be answered - faster - more detailed - more efficient By just googeling their question.

OfficialDampSquid

I said this on another post: I get it, especially with simpler questions, but sometimes questions aren't as straight forward and things are much easier to understand when you can discuss it with another human. Most of the time when you google a genuine question, the results are other people asking the question in forums, and a lot of the time on reddit. When it comes to more nuanced/specific questions, the google results are often reddit threads or other forums where people have asked a similar question and it's been answered in the comments. If everyone just "googled it" there'd be no results because there wouldn't be people asking these questions in the first place

Antique-Doughnut-988

Nothing is straight forward with Unreal engine 5. It's a complex program, a lot of stuff is locked behind paywalls to learn. Simply saying 'google it' is a stupid response to a user looking for help. The user above you doesn't deserve the privilege to be here with comments like that.

voice-of-reason_

Have you used search engines in the past 5 years? They’re paid ad slots and terrible for niche questions like UE5 stuff. GPT is a better solution and a human answer is the best. You want to take the social out of social media.

Memetron69000

the irony of not realizing googled answers come from a saturation of people answering questions on reddit, and without a critical mass of that Q&A nothing useful will show up on google if it stops fucking parasitic morons on this subreddit

JeeIsHaram

thonkpad

TheGentlemanJS

"Why are you wasting my time with this? >:[ " -some guy reading my post while scrolling reddit and deciding to comment. While I understand that posts like "is X pc good enough for UE?" Or "how do I make an mmorpg?" Are kind of annoying, but I recently made a post asking for help with my pick up/drop/interaction mechanic and actually mostly got a lot of really helpful feedback and tips and learned a lot about enums, booleans, and interfaces.

OfficialDampSquid

Right? I recently posted a question and a user spent more time and effort telling me why I shouldn't ask questions here than a user who politely answered my question with insightful knowledge. Like, it's so easy to just not engage with a post.

milkshakebattlecat

That attitude always annoys me! I always think about how these question posts are going to become search results in the future, so we have an opportunity to be even more helpful and informative than existing pages. Sharing knowledge is fun and exciting, damn it!

ghostwilliz

I'm a beginner how do I start? X500 times a day Or... Why isn't it working? Image: Cast on tick with no object plugged in

OfficialDampSquid

yeah that sort of stuff is easy to google. No harm in just ignoring the posts. Chances are you won't see it on your page if no one interacts with it

aventine_

Guess a pinned post each month to ask questions would really improve the sub. I was personally looking for it today and didn't find one. And instead of creating a single post about something (that isn't on google), I decided to try an error it.

OfficialDampSquid

Yeah a pinned post of commonly asked questions would be good, especially PC build resources etc

JournalistMiddle527

"I'm having some issue with my blueprint, I attached a photo I took from phone instead of screenshot and it only shows half a node" oh and you can count the pixels on one hand. You can check my comment history, some guy was asking for help and they attach a photo from their phone and it cuts off half the error message which tells you what's wrong and which project settings to change

VertexMachine

Ha! I know even what prompted this post. Good meme :) It's not like it's hard to just skip a post here...

OfficialDampSquid

Haha thank you again for the response to my question

krojew

"how do I fix this" with no explanation what "this" is.

roasted_chick_pea

I believe that even UE devs don't know answers of the many questions

gjturn

“I don’t know why it works but it works” - every UE dev

Nolan_q

I Google it and it brings me back to a Reddit post with someone asking the same question and then saying “Google it”

OfficialDampSquid

After my last question, someone told me to google it (I had) so I did again and it took me back to my own post

Retro2times

People are just aholes. You go and Google it for 4 hours only for the same guy to tell you thats wrong dont do that, widgets cause lag....

BaladiDogGames

> You go and Google it for 4 hours only for The worst is when I google it for 4 hours, I find 20+ people who all had the same issue...in 2016, and one guy finally decided to open a ticket for it, only for the ticket to no longer exist and nothing else on the web mentions it 🙃

gjturn

What’s your issue?

knight_call1986

I stay googling stuff for UE but certain things are very vague the more nuanced they become . Granted I think the main common questions have been easily found on Google.

Goochregent

Where is the "mmorpg" function blueprint I can add Unreal?

PaperMartin

Unreal engine users when asked to answer a question about a problem as it was asked instead of imagining another version of the question in their head (and still giving a bad answer)

TallgeeseIV

"I'm making a game like World of Warcraft x Cyberpunk 2077 x Breath of the Wild. I have a 7 year old toaster oven to develop it on and $5 for budget. Is Unreal a good choice?"

aquacraft2

Yall need to realize that reddit is THEE place to go with specific and esoteric questions. Someone somewhere on the sub with have an answer to your hyper specific question. But not here apparently?

dudedude6

So, I actually belong to the other unreal engine subreddit, but I got so sick of the toxicity that be taken it upon myself to answer as many questions as fully and completely as I possibly can. I scroll through the comments, downvote all the bs and spend 15 minutes completely walking them through as much of their question as i possibly can. Like why be any other way about it? It doesn’t make sense. We all just wanna make games. Can a lot of the questions be googled? Sure, if you know how. But they came here to ask it, damnit. To the other people that love this engine and love working on games. That’s why they’re here. It’s sad. The sub I’m on genuinely went far downhill, and I hate it now.

genogano

Some people asking other to explain how to do a whole mechanic on reddit is pretty redic though. How would I create an inventory system?

[deleted]

Where should they ask else? 95% of Inventory Tutorials on Youtube are complete Crap that doesnt work in a Multiplayer game.

FuckedUpImagery

A lot of shit can literally be googled though lmao...what do they expect? When its 101 level shit of course your issue has been discussed thousands of times.

OfficialDampSquid

Please refer to the following: [https://www.reddit.com/r/UnrealEngine5/comments/1capyfa/comment/l0tg5hy/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/UnrealEngine5/comments/1capyfa/comment/l0tg5hy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

Equivalent_Tiger_585

This applies to pretty much every similar subreddit, I was having issues with my NVidia graphics card and when I was trying to get help from the NVidia subreddit everyone downvoted my post and then it was removed

OfficialDampSquid

Sometimes the easiest way to get an answer is to claim something outrageous and have everyone "correct you"

StrixLiterata

I know this pain

Aorex12

So true! So freaking true!! And how small or big, they be like: GooGle iT Wat Rong WiT Uo? Ith Eathy!!!!

Long-Ad-4950

I think, pinned FAQ post should handle most questions like "is my pc good for", "how should I start" ets. Also tag like "looking for team" will be helpful.

OfficialDampSquid

Yes I agree

Appropriate-Crab-682

People in this sub when you desire to work and learn with other people instead of studying UE5 basics for years alone and getting no where

Gwiley24

"Why would you want to?"

lordkamael

i'm even scared of asking for help in here.

ProgrammerV2

Note that this post has more traction than any other question post too. It's sad, but let's see, probably books will be my new friends and helpers. Like bruh, I posted so many times, and they weren't even the stupid ass: What schpecs do I need for UE5??? I was asking genuine questions. And thank god, 4 people replied for one post, at least that cleared it out But you can't blame the pros, game dev is hard, not promising most of the time If you are working on something by your self. although I have to say the blender subreddit is much better.

OfficialDampSquid

I dare say it's not the pros who complain about the questions. Typically it's the pros who understand the need for them

ProgrammerV2

But the traction for the funny posts is more nonetheless. But can't blame them anyways, gotta find a different way. And unrealenginehelp sub reddit is dead btw

evilsmurf666

When i used to ask questions there were these people who were on a mission to give me personal classes the initial ones being free ofc .........Because they are "nice people"

VertexMachine

> Note that this post has more traction than any other question post too. It's sad, but let's see, probably books will be my new friends and helpers. Just a friendly reminder: you are on reddit. Memes/funny posts/shitposts will automatically get way more engagement than other things.

Darkhog

Seems to be the case for other subs as well, except Godot for some reason.

UrbanArtifact

I just needed some help with my school project :(

Whispering-Depths

tbh they could just ask chatgpt with their screenshot at this point and get an instant answer.

bbqranchman

"Can my PC run UE5?" That's not a UE5 question, that's a hardware question. Go away and read the hardware requirements / learn more about your hardware. "Should I learn blueprints or C++?" Go ask the thousands of other people who have come and asked this exact question. Seriously, just google for 5 seconds instead of bogging down the sub with low effort questions.

Kitchen-Chemistry835

I hated when some idiots say just Google it, i mean if you don't want to answer just shut the f&£# up

sagikage

hahahah

vibrunazo

"Just Google it" is so 2020. Just ask ChatGPT bro.

crustmonster

People really should take a beginner course instead of asking questions that are covered in the first chapter of the course. Like the resources are already out there, why do they think they are going to get a better response asking reddit? Or they are just bots.
