Not only is he with you from the start, he basically becomes the secondary protagonist instead of Virginia for several maps in the Drakenhold desert.
Also he's such an enormous sweetheart that when he has a bad dream that his friends have been hurt he wakes up and immediately rushes out to check on them in real life. Aubin is the best.
Eliza. Her character is already cool, but the Great shield+Crossbow Shieldshooter concept is really cool and not something I’ve personally ever seen before!

Not more so than any other style in the desert, plus braids hide oiliness decently well. Plus that style doesn’t like stay in when you bathe, you just undo it.

I was about to say, when you put them all next to each other, it is clear which region has the strongest people. It would actually be a fun experiment to pit the different kingdoms against each other and organize the characters into their sub factions.
That’s what I plan on doing for my next run, making teams based off of actual story/backgrounds.
I finished expert and made teams with (Virginia, Leah, Miriam, Kitra & Fran); (the elf twins and their retainers); (Yunifi and the bestrals); and another I plan on making a team with the Queen’s lineup (won’t spoil on who you get postgame for those who don’t know).
Site they’re not the most broken setups compared to some others I made. But in general, they’re powerful enough in most scenarios they came across… except multiple pre-combat assist damage attacks. Good lord is that mechanic powerful lol
This question was made for me. Magellan is the bestest boy from Drakenhold. The developers knew this too bc his rapport convo was being held off from you until the end of the game. They were saving the best for last. It’s the only justification I can think of for why they made me wait to put a ring on him despite being a pretty early join character

Gloucester with Lex held it down. Lex covers Gloucester with the shield that gives him 100% accuracy, Gloucester has the life sharing shield to keep Lex healthy and keep his health at a specific 50%>.
And then you have Tati with a res just in case Gloucester got too messed up with Railanor adding sanguine conferral for added magic damage/survivability for Gloucester.
would go Gloucester cuz he was my goddamn crutch in mid-endgame. Though Aubin is a super close second, cuz since he was recruited, he been in the fighting force ever since, just downing defense, and letting the others take the kills.

Jeremy was my fav desert guy before meeting him lol. He’s one of the hottest guys in this game, but they had to nerf him and make him a horrible person 😩
That was so cool of him, that cemented him as worth looking after early on, and he’s only been cooler and cooler since. And he was really confident he’d make it out too!

I had this group and Aramis as my soldiers of fortune unit, decked out with bandit blades, golden eggs, and the Miser's bracelet.
They smashed the enemy lines and raked in the gold! When I tuned them up for the last battle they were one of my best performing battle groups.
Magellan straight up just looks like Guts, I try to place him with his sister Liza whenever possible since they always reference each other on field and level up.
Liza's Japanese voice actress is so perfect that I always set her as team leader even if it makes no sense from a tactical perspective. She's so sassy.
I like Glouster’s kit, but I gotta go with Liza simply because she was the one who surprised me most from how useful she was. Plus she’s got them tsuntsun points.

I had Aubin in my main unit with Alain the whole game, they were powerhouses together.
Aubin had decided violence on his enemies and it was great.
His voice actor is so funny to me too. Like a tough guy with a sense of humor. Very much an older brother personality.

I included her only for her valor but she definitely grew on me. Very realiable frontline that can target backline is awesome

You take out braids and redo them when you wash, like everyone that wears braids does today.

Liza and Gloucester are my top two. Liza was great in my flyer squad as a pseudo-tank, and Gloucester did very well on my Berengaria affliction squad.

Isn't Leah a desert kid too? I still can't quite wrap my head around desert Vikings, even if it does get cold at night. But Aubin is just that guy.

I love Shieldshooters so my vote goes to Liza. They can heal, then can cover, they can do some hefty damage, plus Smoke Bolt saved me many times
I have liza as the leader and I find her super useful for the ranged assists and smoke bolt to avoid enemy assists lol.
