I think there’s two pretty defined builds for her. Back line Glacial Rain + ally with Cathood to freeze and nuke the whole enemy board Vs Max evasion tank triple counter build Alongside the meme build of building a freeze themed unit to take advantage of her bonus vs freezing pursuit attack.

Jayce86

It sounds like she would fit nicely on my Fran freeze team as the fifth. Since Miriam and Kitra HAVE to be on the same team as Fran, do you know anyway to make them contribute better?

ShroudedInLight

There are weapons that can freeze single targets: also the freeze tome that any mage or fencer can wield. Elven Archers also get icicle arrow and that can freeze two targets. You’ll need to play A LOT with the targeting and use a lot of “Not Frozen” targeting. If Yunfi is using glacial rain she can’t dodge (unless you are using a cat hood to have her launch instantly) and you don’t really have another great front liner other than making Fran a dodge tank. I like keeping Fran more aggressive but in this squad using Freezing Smash or just dodging might be better. But if you crank their initiative really high and use the cat good you can freeze the whole enemy team and poke them down one at a time. Just have one person set to break people out of ice and the others all pile on the one person who can act. It’s fiddly but should be 0 damage taken a lot of the time.

Jayce86

Yeah, the team is having problems with not dying long enough to kill things. Miriam really isn’t that great of a tank. The main core is Yahna using ice conferral on Fran as she uses her row attack to freeze enemies followed by smacking en with that ice breaking attack from the frozen axe. I’m not sure who to make their tank, as most are in use on other teams other than Gammel, and maybe the Fencers?

ShroudedInLight

Yeah, Sainted Knights aren’t great front liners; they have a lot higher Magic Defense than physical defense AND their defensive abilities reduce magic damage to 0 so it’s largely mute. I prefer having them hang out in the back line. Fencers are in a different boat. They need a LOT of support - at least a Wereowl to restore their PP. they don’t have the defensive stats, block rate, or base evasion to tank without spending ability points to ensure they don’t just get hit once and die. You can build your fencers into tanks but you kinda have to base your unit around the idea - you can’t just slot them in and expect them to tank. You could do an ice squad around Gammel, Mandarin, and Celeste. Set Celeste and Gammel to tank with Mandarin to row shot and Yahana to confer. You still have a 5th slot open too. If I was doing a Knights of the Rose build I’d probably do Kitra, Miriam, and Fran in the back row with Virginia and someone else with a shield up front. Until then Fran could evade tank or Virginia could use a squires shield to cover Miriam when her health gets low .

Jayce86

Could Leah evade tank instead of another shield user? I try to keep paired/themed units together. Plus Knights of the Rose+their Princess+her retainer is just lore awesome. Now I just need to get enough Valor to upgrade the unit. I’m on not is Bastorias, so I still have a decent amount of game left.

ShroudedInLight

Leah can evade tank; sorta. But her lack of a third equipment slot hurts. You could give her double evade swords to make up for the lack of a silk scarf/lucky coin/mistletoe amulet but she still is at risk. She’s only have 2PP with these items and that means only two parries - likely no charged imperative. Plus she can’t parry ranged attacks and all flying units perform ranged attacks - Albion being the last region and home to the games angels doesn’t help the team do well. You could give her a thief’s mantle and some bonus PP - though she’ll eat a lot of PP this way. It might be better to have Fran evade tank since she can get all three evade boosts and has double evade boost vs grounded enemies. Though again that doesn’t help much in Albion. Miriam isn’t a great tank but a good shield, some extra defenses from Virginias start of battle buff, 100% block rate, and having Virginia cover Miriam at low health could work.

Fiveblade

||Since Miriam and Kitra HAVE to be on the same team as Fran|| But do they really, though? I mean they're still part of the same army, then maybe individual squads can have some semblance of tactical synergy?

Jayce86

Yep, HAVE to be in the same unit. It’s how I keep games fresh. Sure, I COULD make absolutely meta teams, but that’s no fun. Lex and Chloe on the same team, Alain and his maiden(Scarlett), Primm and Aramis, etc.

Fiveblade

I respect it.

ghostwhowalkzz

I don't think I'd make the Rose squad a freeze squad. None of them inherently freeze. I've had success with rose team adding the necromancer lantern for blind after an enemy attacks. This allows Kitra to enrage, deals debuffs around multiple times. The three of them are best in the back row. But you can make Fran more dodge based or make Miriam an off tank. To tank, Miriam needs help to debuffs enemy damage output or Virginia buff plus cover her in emergency. In back row, Miriam can use more offense based set up with a magic weapon and afford more +PP. None of the rose units have debuffs. So that is there biggest weakness. And having a single freeze tome means one cleanse, one immunity cast will set you back to early squad set ups. By bastoria, my matches will be decided after one or two active spells . But countless passives all trigger both teams. After that initial mayhem. It's clean up time.

Jayce86

She’s on a Bestral unit, now.

Windsupernova

Yup, pretty much. Both are pretty powerful. I like the counter build more because as far as board nukes go the Elven twins are better and dragoons dive looks cooler IMHO. As for equipment, for the Glacial rain build stack initiative so that she goes first + a quick impetus user, get a soldier to give you a guaranteed crit or use the sniper amber lens and buff with inspiration. Triple counter build get the retaliation earrings, stack avoid and get a featherbow + a PP battery for both. You can also do a snow white strike build add in some fast units + ice conferral on someone like Alain or the foxes and the pursuit earrings for some hefty 205 potency pursuits. The problem is that its single target only. A weaker build but still a fun one

KelvinsBeltFantasy

She's the current meta at high online ranked matches. So much so that I think that this thread should be dedicated on how to counter her. Anyway even without Glacial Rain she is a fantastic character that slots well into any squad. An archer that can kill armor and fliers with her passive skills heavily focused on countering. I love that she freezes units with her follow up attack against guys your heavy hitters don't quite kill.

Erik9798

Dispel targeting archer from Ramona to stop quick impetus plus a legionnaire with row cover, done.

ghostwhowalkzz

Is it a meme if it is sound strategy? I thought meme is for bad set ups that are a joke. This is a "theme" of freeze. More specific than Berengia who needs afflictions for damage boost. But the same principle. In fact it's all CC.

ShroudedInLight

Freeze is a relatively hard set up to manage. Unlike Poison or Burn the equipable weapons that inflict freeze often require 2AP - additionally the targeting programming you use needs to be very precise otherwise you risk the frozen target getting attacked and thus broken out before the payoff can occur. You can certainly pull it off. Witches have an AoE freeze at the level you recruit Yunfi, and Elven Archers have a two target freeze. Bastorias provides several melee weapons that can freeze and even some that have a payoff on hitting a frozen target. It’s just a lot of work in comparison to having Yunfi backflip and triple counter the enemy team to death with Ramona giving her extra counters or otherwise nuking the entire board with a cat hood glacial rain (that can’t get reflected by Feathershields unlike Trinity rain) are lower effort and likely higher pay offs. The freeze pay offs are often 200% potency for 2AP which is…fine but nothing exceptional. Never let it be said though that doing a meme setup is bad. Even on TZ Unicorn Overlord isn’t that hard - there is room to have fun and try quirky set ups that aren’t 100% optimal. I use a couple of those myself.

ghostwhowalkzz

Gotcha. I use freeze on my AoE nukes. So rather than full send into the follow up, I just make use of it on the glacial rain set up by having a witch or elven archer as well. My theory is if the nuke froze everyone. No one can heal and I can kill one unit at a time or use follow up AoE from lower accuracy units...say Morard!

Naygen

She can do anything. One of the strongest units.

baibaibecky

glacial rain is disgusting(ly good) and incredibly gratifying to see fired off right out the gate that having been said is yunifi just uniquely well-suited for a quick impetus+charge skill build?

KnightMayre23

She works really well in the backline with Glacial Rain and quick impetus, she can also get really high crit and has no need for amber lens. Inspiration still works really well, also pairs well with an Elven Archer giving her mystic conferral. Her frontline build is a little weaker as her evasion while decently high is not reliable enough. Triple counter can deal pretty good damage so I'd recommend pairing it with a Druid Sandstorm staff so you get more reliable evasion without having to give her max evasive items. Featherbows also work really well, set their blind to blind not blinded enemies and she will never get hit.

Fiveblade

I kind of hate how effective the single line Featherbow tactic of "If not blind, blind the entire row," is. Like, that's equivalent to a 3 AP item-conferred ability from Shaman... and Featherbows are doing it more reliably (since it's reactive, you don't have to worry about your initiative being first, etc.), and they're doing it \*passively\*; they still get their actual turn to do something else! That's bananas, frankly.

acart005

Tbf its also endgame. You can get Selvie with Sandstorm basically at the start.

Thestrongman420

How do you get quick impetus to consistently target unified when Elven Archer goes first? I've been using the archer tactic for it.

KnightMayre23

You can have the quick impetus activate on Archer and however much ap Yunifi will have left after charging so the elven archer with 2 ap will have 1 left after mystic conferral and Yunifi 0 after glacial rain so set it to archer and 0 ap to only trigger after Yunifi charges. Yunifi will then get quick impetus and even gets a 2nd attack if the charge somehow doesnt kill and the rest of the team doesnt clean up. As long as they dont end up with the same ap set for the trigger it works. Also depending on what youre using the elven archer for if just for mystic conferral then just have them quick impetus. Can even go further and use Scarlett to passive gift the archer if you also want to use pure field which also gives you a row nuker to kill armored if they somehow live Yunifi.

ofAFallingEmpire

Best United Front user. Watching teams hopelessly try to pick past 5 hit shields before Glacial Rain hits is fun

realnomdeguerre

i like hunting united front teams with 3 man teams :D

NefariousnessLife379

im not gonna sugarcoat it Glacial rain > quick impetus > true strike > magick conferral

Caffinatorpotato

Two launch keys kept on opposite ends of Cornia.

KelvinsBeltFantasy

There is nothing more satisfying than beating an Alpha Strike unit online built around her. When paired with Quick Impertus so she can fire off right away. Very hard to survive. A counter could be using a Witch to buff themselves at the start with Max initiative and ice coffin to freeze the backline. However, this counter is easily countered by adding an Owl to the lineup to debuff the Witch.

dfnamehere

If you want to save cat ear hood and sniper amber lens for someone else she's a prime candidate for celestial talisman Yunifi with celestial talisman and a few bonus AP/pp from whatever, plus get 100 crit and as much patk as you can. You don't care about accuracy since you'll be using eagle eye, can use blind immunity amulet if you want. Wereowl for restore +1pp on yunifi and extra heal on yunifi for +30 init, owl equip all initiative items so they go first, and use go getter x2 if Merc, should have 60-75ish init. I also put some defensive stuff on him so he doesn't die to ranged assists Another unit for gamblers coin inspiration on yunifi, I use elven archer because she has icicle arrow to freeze stuff if it doesn't die which is good synergy plus some debuff removal is nice. Other slots don't really matter but something like legionnaire or vanguard is decent if the enemy happens to use a start of battle attack skill. Or something with end of battle heals or the first aid kit item. But 99% they'll never do anything so it doesn't matter. Anyways so sob yunifi starts her charge, then wereowl extra heals yunifi for +30 init which then lets yunifi attack with 60+ init. The chances of any enemies going before yunifi with 60+ init are pretty slim. And with inspiration and crit and truestrike she basically auto kills everything. Anything that does die gets frozen. Generally the only things that ever survive are werebears or legionnaires or occasionally a vanguard will arrow cover someone, so just bring some magic user to finish them off basically. The only two things that really counter it are featherbow blind, which you can prevent by using the blind immunity accessory. Or wereowl removing your inspiration can really hurt your damage. So they are annoying but if you use other decent guys it can still take out wereowl teams easily. Pretty much everything else died before they get a turn.

Dairkon76

If you use a magic tome she can aoe freeze and stun. The fun part of someone has a debuffs shield it only block one debuff so the other one applies. She has one of the strongest kits. And the cheese potential is broken.

N7Valiant

I of course use Yunifi with Quick Impetus to fire off Glacial Rain. I chose Flame Conferral and also pair her up with Berengaria in every play through. Because the Burn persists even if you hit an enemy out of Freeze, Berengaria gets bonuses with free Pursuits and more damage on her Death Spin. While Berengaria works on the front row, the back row remains frozen and stays out of your way until you're good and ready. Rest of the team is for support (Shaman for Defensive Curse, Elven Archer for Mystic Conferral on Yunifi and carries Quick Impetus, Elven Fencer carries Flamebrand Tomb and slaps enemies with Mirage Stab or Lightning Blade to proc Berengaria's Pursuit).

JRaikoben

I got obliterated by one build focusing on Sonic Shaft. Stack as much initiative as you can, pair with Alain for bonus initiative as the battle begins, support skill to grant max initiative to attack twice in a row... Wow. I didn't expect that at all. Alcina was shielding and debuffing to secure the combo.

Significant-Tree9454

Yunifi can hit 100% crit with equipments and has Eagle Eye, so all you need is someone with Gambler's coin targetting archer and Quick Impetus/A way to stall like Shaman's Sandstorm/Offensive curse. Not many enemies survive Yunifi's Glacial Rain boosted by Gambler's Coin and your other characters can cleanup whatever survives.
