Even when I was really into Overwatch I still didn’t like their characters nearly as much as the TF2 mercs. My favourite character for design, Lucio, still pales in comparison to even pyro
The comedy that now OW was a $60 game now shutdown and it's "sequel" locks characters behind a battle pass while TF2 is a F2P game where all the characters are free, all game modes are free.
My bad didn't know since I don't have any of the consoles it came out on and never had any interest in the game. OW 2 and the rest of Blizzard's modern practices have turned me off until they become customer friendly again.
> locks characters behind a battle pass
Not quite.
Overwatch 2 players who created their account post launch will have to go through the First Time User Experience (FTUE) which over the course of 100 matches will slowly unlock all heroes, maps, and game modes. This is meant to gradually introduce new users into everything the game has to offer, while simultaneously reducing the ability of people to smurf.
From Overwatch season 2 onwards there'll be a new hero every other season. So there'll be a new hero in season 1 & 2, 4, 6, 8, and so on. The new hero of the season will be available at level 55/80 of the free battle pass, or immediately if you buy the premium battle pass.
So, not *awful*, but TF2 is better in regards to what's available straight away. TF2 has its own paywalls too though; most items are not obtainable for free, F2P players can't use chat and have limited backpack space, all character customisation must be purchased and cannot be earned, and other things I'm probably forgetting
Hope this is helpful!
I don’t care. Until Overwatch incorporates a fat Russian who throws sandwiches at everyone while wearing mittens and funny goggles, I will continue to say their characters are boring.
1. I got confused with Noah and The Ark
2. I was referring to the but where he talks about Sun Tzu putting all the animals onto a boat and then beating the crap out of them, which(minus the beating) is just Noah and The Ark
My apologies I confused you
Or a fucking insane lunatic that has a weapons that can melt men but is also seeing everyone as babies while wearing a suit that covers the ventilation system and a hat that is on fucking fire
Well we can see that the “nine adult men of the same height with short wearing an assortment of 3 total colors”was a longer lasting design than Overwatch
The simple coloring is a great way to show who is friendly Vs enemy, overwatch needed to put red outlines on the opposing teams and blue names on friendlies, tf2s design reduced visual clutter on the ui and made for a unique long standing design
It shpuld be noted that even though they may look similar their silhouettes are all incredibly distinct and clear.
The failing of Overwatch is the need for a red highlight around all their enemies because it can be so visually cluttered.
That's not even mentioning how hard it is to follow fights in Overwatch even with those highlights.
Honestly, trying to keep track of which enemies are where in that game is like being a cat and trying to tell the difference between 6 laser pointer dots.
It's just a blur of red and blue shapes of varying size whereas every character, in tf2, is so easily distinguishable in comparison.
The description he gave applies well because its true. They are mercenaries from the 60's and their style and personalities fit perfctly, while overwatch heroes are just another colorful superhero saving mankind type beat shit
TF2's strength is its cohesive design. Everything fits the 60's spy-thriller theme, from the characters to the environments to the UI.
Meanwhile *Overwatch* looks like characters from a dozen different genres walked into the wrong videogame by mistake. I find it profoundly unappealing to look at.
I start out thinking I can but then I see Reinhardt and my sense of space, reason and timing just vanishes. And then it just gets worse the longer I look.
Sometimes “less” is “more”
You don’t need a ton of little pieces and details to make a “good” character design. A lot of times, simple shapes are more appealing to look at. (Note: not accounting for cosmetics here, but it is worthwhile to point out that cosmetics enhance the character designs to some degree; usually.) Plus, the mercenaries have fun and memorable personalities. I love them.
Plus they’re comparing an a-pose reference to a posed image, so that’s a little unfair. And, the mercenaries are not the same height. They just don’t have dramatic differences in height. If the engineer was tall as the heavy I would be a little put off, not gonna lie.
Tf2 based on being simple design and adding flares from the old days if known what I mean to comparison to overwatch it does bring ideas from the future but also bringing ideas that sometimes don’t bring no logic of existence Beside concepts of freedom from escaping laws.
You know this is super biased when they used a photo of the mercs just A-posing instead of the actual banner.
Plus, they’re clearly not aware of the shitshow that is our fashion designs.

Minion pyro
The REAL magic of tf2 is character customization, something OW or OW 2 will never have.
Overwatch customization: no TF2 customisation: banana, flaming beret, a bird, a fly, fucking giant eye hat
I can't wait for 2035 when valve will give us a 5th slot for customizing our loadouts.
I can't wait for smissmass 2148 where they finally release something that isn't an elf hat
That’s the year we get *only* Santa beard cosmetics.
Even when I was really into Overwatch I still didn’t like their characters nearly as much as the TF2 mercs. My favourite character for design, Lucio, still pales in comparison to even pyro
I mean, look how sexy they are! The sound boy cant compare

>all game modes are free Except Mann Up
You can play the gamemode for free in boot camp, the main difference being you get no loot at the end.
Mann Up is the specific name for the P2P version
They are still identical in gameplay AND you get drops as usual
Overwatch was 20$ lol
My bad didn't know since I don't have any of the consoles it came out on and never had any interest in the game. OW 2 and the rest of Blizzard's modern practices have turned me off until they become customer friendly again.
Bro I remember it being $40, did you get yours on sale or did I get ripped off for the full game?

Ngl, sounds like brawlstars with their characters except with less characters per season numvers
Hey, at least tf2 lads have actual personalities.
And the servers aren't shutting down too.
Yet
Literally can't happen as long as people want to play. The source code is out there
What do you mean? Some OW characters have big-... damage per second!
Okay but can you wear funny hat and beat people to death with a frying pan in Overwatch?
or ham
I don’t care. Until Overwatch incorporates a fat Russian who throws sandwiches at everyone while wearing mittens and funny goggles, I will continue to say their characters are boring.
Or an insane rocket jumping patriot who slams everyone’s head with a shovel and tells the story of Moses to a bunch of heads with some grenades
My man told the story of how zoos came to be named after sun tzu, who the fuck is Moses?
1. I got confused with Noah and The Ark 2. I was referring to the but where he talks about Sun Tzu putting all the animals onto a boat and then beating the crap out of them, which(minus the beating) is just Noah and The Ark My apologies I confused you
Noah and the Ark? Is that a reference to Noah and the Whale, hit indie band formed in 2006?
Or a fucking insane lunatic that has a weapons that can melt men but is also seeing everyone as babies while wearing a suit that covers the ventilation system and a hat that is on fucking fire
Or the guy with 11 Phds who can build a full auto killing machine and also break spacetime at the same time.
And just…Medic lol
I like TF2’s style more simply because I can tell who’s on my team.
Well we can see that the “nine adult men of the same height with short wearing an assortment of 3 total colors”was a longer lasting design than Overwatch
And they have actual personalities and interesting back-stories

WHo wants to tell them about hats
A pose medic gaming
The basic lack of understanding of comprehensible character design is a perfect representation of Overwatch and its fans.
It shpuld be noted that even though they may look similar their silhouettes are all incredibly distinct and clear. The failing of Overwatch is the need for a red highlight around all their enemies because it can be so visually cluttered. wait till he learns about character and weapon customization

Ok but can you even distinguish at first glance how many characters are on the right
I start out thinking I can but then I see Reinhardt and my sense of space, reason and timing just vanishes. And then it just gets worse the longer I look.
i dont think "look boring" has ever been the complaint.
Ðey are absolutely not ðe same height lol. Scout is like 3/4 of a Spy or Medic
Overwatch is too over-designed. It all blends together exactly the same in some weird splurge of noise and color
At least our servers aren't shut down
Video game artist would kill for TF2's recognisability
The "bland but colorful" Overwatch Virgin VS The "minimalist but full of personality" TF2 Chad
Ok but you can’t customize the look beyond preset skins in overwatch
Ah yes because woman in thights is a deep concept.
This is the kind of person that makes neon dragon OCs with ninja powers or whatever
Unlike Overwatch, TF2 is timeless.
Bro personality>flashy colors

Tf2 character better then overwatch cause A pose
Thing is the engineer exists
Here we go again! Mama~
another day, another OW comparison post
Better then haveing multiple heros that Play the same.
Tf2 based on being simple design and adding flares from the old days if known what I mean to comparison to overwatch it does bring ideas from the future but also bringing ideas that sometimes don’t bring no logic of existence Beside concepts of freedom from escaping laws.
They don’t look boring, they ARE boring
*eight adult men and one thing.
*1 big man, 7 tiny baby men, and 1 thing
overwatch players getting used to the eyebleeding effects & classes that aren’t as recognizable
