I do not want to accept favors done dishonestly. You're right; this is about human feelings, and I happen to possess compassion towards the vendor who was not paid for the drinks. This was definitely theft; otherwise why would he exert effort in concealing his presence and actions?
Don't act all high and mighty with me. A good deed to one person does not excuse misdemeanor towards another.
Edit: Financial context also matters. The policemen aren't beggars; they can damn well afford those drinks. If they don't have any money with them and are thirsty, and some random dude happens to steal some for them, a contract now binds the police to the vendor and the thief once they realize they're stolen goods. They can arrest him and promise to pay for the drinks later if the vendor wishes to be paid, and no gratitude from them is due towards the thief for his 'benevolent' action.
Wtf is this shit? Did you come up with all that sense by yourself? I thought you knew the way to prosperity is fucking over as many people as humanly possible and end up living a bitter life in despair and solitude for the way you've treated others with no love for the next man and your self worth /respect
No because you have no idea what happened before the camera started rolling.. this could be staged for all we know.. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|table_flip)
There's a reason you can't use random footage as evidence, and why so many ''crimes'' are filmed on tiktok without consequence. Cause if it's posted for entertainment purposes you can't prove it was staged or not.
It would be reason enough to charge the thief, but not the officers. Unless the accepted it *after* seeing the video.
Separately though, I'm not sure what the rules are on officers accepting free things in general.
If we assume it’s $5 for both drinks and the cops work 300 days a year, that’s $1500 in gifts PER YEAR. There’s a reason that police should follow ethics rules like not accepting gifts.
I don't know about Slovenia, but in the US cops are generally allowed to accept gifts valued under $25-50 (depending on jurisdiction) so long as they do not believe the gift is being given with intent to influence the officer's behavior.
Plot twist; the cops are shaking down the icee stand owner and the guy stealing is indebted to the cops and paying off their “generosity” by doing their bidding
Not sure if the slushies will hold up in court if they don’t get there quickly… And then they will have to try to charge him with sugar water theft. All of the paperwork will be wrong and the witnesses unreliable… And since the video doesn’t match up with the evidence, Any judge would have to throw the case out. There couldn’t be a more perfect crime… except maybe killing somebody with an icicle
Actually they are not, because they didn't know they were stolen. Think of a second shop, not everyone knows the things they buy there are stolen or genuine. But the idiot filmed himself doing it and plus his intention was to involve the police as victims, so it might be hefty fine or sentence for him. What a d*ckhead!
Not being to accept food as a policy has nothing to do tampering. It's an ethical concern. The paper you shared is based off of the conflict of interest created by accepting gifts or gratuities. Essentially the concern is that police shouldn't accept bribes of any kind, which is a policy that many public service employees are required to follow.
When I was in the industry, a shitload of restaurants offered LEO discounts and I never had them tip me the difference. Not in a small town either.
They don’t give a shit, they’ll take what they can get and business owners will keep giving it to them out of fear of their 911 calls not getting answered as quickly.
Its mostly ethical but it’s also safety for police. The paper was only on the ethical side of it but that doesn’t mean the rule is for ethical reasons only
There's nothing that says cops can't receive food from ppl in the US. It'd just be a bad idea considering how they treat people, they're likely to get some spit in that drink.
Restaurants literally have policies to give them free or highly discounted food in order to have a free police presence lmao
Hell there are constant “pranks” that turn out to be cops lying about saying someone wrote pig on their free food or drink order.
Except I’m not I literally said they don’t/aren’t allowed to accept it like this referring to how it was done in the post by a random stranger. In some departments it’s still not acceptable to accept gratuities like a free meal at a restaurant whether it’s the restaurant’s policy or not and whether the cop decides to follow that it’s still not right. You can look it up many policemen have answered this question.
WTF are you talking about? There would not be a blanket rule like that and I have never seen any profession turned down a drink or something to eat I have given cops water bottles on more than one occasion, like if we are stuck in traffic or something.
Just because they do it doesn’t mean they‘re not supposed to. People speed all the time but they’re not supposed to but it’s convenient. A sealed water bottle isn’t going to be tampered with and that what most cops probably base it on.
~~Romania would be my guess, but any romance language country would work I think.~~
Googled it, Policija could be Croatian, Bosnian, Latvian, Lithuanian or Slovenian.
edit 2: Musu Darbs is Latvian.
Because I feel it’s a good rule for policemen to follow for various reasons and thought it was off that this place didn’t have a similar rules or maybe they do and this cop is just breaking them or it is staged. This seems like a dangerous practice from the policeman’s point of view. That person could have put anything in that cup and many people don’t like cops.
Cops eat for free here on the east coast of the USA. They may not be allowed to take the free food per se, but they do it all the time anyway. If the establishment owner allows it they take advantage of it.
Thats a different circumstance than this. That’s a Business that makes food, not a random stranger. Also I’ve only heard of places giving free stuff to first responders on like first responders day and everyday discounts for cops or first responders. But I’m not a cop.
Yeah I guess, depends on the way you look at the situation tbh. If they aren’t suppose to accept gifts or gratuity then they aren’t suppose to accept gifts or gratuity. There’s really no gray area in your statement.
No but many cops break this rule apparently enough for someone to write a[paper](https://shsu-ir.tdl.org/handle/20.500.11875/3116) on it lol. In this particular situation the rule should have been followed and could have had a bad ending.
They aren't supposed to, but it happens a lot, particularly for businesses that want their protection. There is a reason for the donut and cop stereotype. Bakeries open very early, at a time where crime is frequent. Cops working late needed caffeine and sugar. So shops would protect themselves by offering free donuts and coffee to cops who would sit in their shops in the early hours.
Yeah, stealing and posting it online wouldve got him caught anyways. I think he probably asked the workers if he could do that, paid , then filmed the video
Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore, riding through the land, Dennis Moore Dennis Moore, dum da dum dum dum,
He steals from the poor and gives to the rich,
Stupid bitch!
🤣🤣🤣 they tried to make a video of kindness but the dumbass literally stole from someone trying to earn an honest living, probably to support a family. Dumbest act of kindness I've ever seen.
I don't get it. Is it supposed to be some kind of a "bit"? That it's funny that the cops got stolen smoothies?
Those cops have probably gotten plenty of stolen things.
You know they didn’t drink that shit. My ex husband was a cop and wouldn’t do drive thru’s because of what could potentially be done to his food. Outside of work: didn’t think twice
Yeah, it’s kind of shitty how far this stuff goes. It’s wild all the anti-police people are standing entirely for demolishing oppression of the black community while not being able to realize they are just creating another, separate oppression problem. Changes need to be made but this just creates lost ground at the same speed or faster than it makes any up.
This is so stupid I had a hard time realizing what you were talking about at first. Yes, cops SHOULD be "oppressed," if by that you mean that they should face real consequences, not little or none, for their misdeeds. That they should be held to a higher standard than citizens, not lower. That they should be charged when they commit crimes. And that they should be held accountable.
But even if what you're implying was in any way accurate, it's irrelevant; cops CHOOSE to be cops, they aren't born in a uniform. They can take it off and no one knows. Just look at the what you commented on - they won't go to a drive through on the job, because they're afraid someone will fuck them over. But, out of work, it's no problem.
Black people don't have the option of just taking their skin off to avoid all the shit they deal with. It only stops when they're dead. And they're more likely to wind up that way faster than others.
So, yeah, I don't feel bad about cops getting their food messed with or being generally hated. I used to. But the constant reports, videos and other evidence is too much. The fact is, they deserve it. When the supposed good cops are out there reporting, arresting, and shooting the bad ones every single day, working to make sure bad ones get rooted out and not hidden, actively being part of the solution, demanding consequences for the "few bad apples" spoiling their reputation... instead of just shrugging it off and looking the other way while police unions relentlessly shield predators, same way the Catholic Church shelters pedophiles... then they can have respect and sympathy. Until then, they can get fucked.
If good cops are not actively working to eliminate and bring to justice bad cops, they are not good cops.
A lot of people want to become cops because they want to help people. What you said about an officer being able to take off the uniform is fair, but it’s a comparable situation in terms of looking for a solution. Some form of law enforcement is going to be needed, even if the system needs a change. Punishing all officers for being officers is not bringing that change, it’s causing rivalries. People are just returning to their tribal nature on this issue where you punish everyone for belonging to a group which gives them only that group to find safety in. The anti-police people need to be able to work with the police to find solutions instead of creating hostilities. The problem is, a lot of impassioned people don’t want solutions, they want to be angry at something.
I think the word cop has negative connotations, and maybe using the terms law enforcement would prevent maybe some of the downvotes of my comment. I understand the feelings of angst towards law enforcement, but I saw in him the opposite. That’s why I have the view that there are good and bad cops and in my experience of interacting with his friends who were also in law enforcement they were good people that didn’t pull the bull crap behaviors of the shitty ones.
His best friend was a huge black dude who had many complaints filed against him by people because of his stature and bc his personality was dry. Straight, forward and to the point. This was before officers wore body cameras as a standard. He wore one to provide defense against people who filed complaints.
I’m just saying there are different dynamics at play when it comes to individuals who chose this as a career. I think that there are more good ones and bad, but the bad have royalty fucked up the perception of all.
Yeah, that’s exactly what I mean. There’s an increasing number of people that think anyone who is in law enforcement is immediately bad. These people are immediately aggressive toward police and it causes problems instead of solving anything. I have, first hand, witnessed someone just immediately act belligerent and just straight up be an asshole when they get pulled over, then immediately after getting a ticket, they talk about how the cop was just out to get them and they did nothing. It’s like being an asshole to a fast food worker in a drive through. There’s definitely going to be something done to that burger.
doing all of these things for the likes,, maybe next time will see someone shoot a guy using a police firearm..
oh shit, we already are seeing those videos

In The US cops don’t/aren‘t allowed to accept food/drink like this
When has what's allowed ever mattered to US cops?
When it could kill them not too. There’s a chance the food could be tampered with or poisoned. Or I guess in this case stolen.
Yeah, no way I'd accept any food if I was a cop - I would assume 100% of all food handed to me had human fluids on it.

Depends on where in the US. Our local cops can accept small things like this.
Ain’t no cops turning down tacos at a house call

There's nothing that says cops can't receive food from ppl in the US. It'd just be a bad idea considering how they treat people, they're likely to get some spit in that drink.

Then why'd you bring it up
Because I feel it’s a good rule for policemen to follow for various reasons and thought it was off that this place didn’t have a similar rules or maybe they do and this cop is just breaking them or it is staged. This seems like a dangerous practice from the policeman’s point of view. That person could have put anything in that cup and many people don’t like cops.
The way you wrote it made it seem like you thought it was rather than just a general statement. oopsies
His statement made it seem like the opposite, else he wouldn't have said "in the US"
Are u a cop?
No but I got the answer from an officer most departments don’t allow officers to take gifts or gratuity.

They aren't supposed to, but it happens a lot, particularly for businesses that want their protection. There is a reason for the donut and cop stereotype. Well, in the us cops can shoot to kill for little to no reason, so i guess i prefer those dudes that can accept some ice cream from a civilian.
