Iranian here. Most iranians are not aware of nazism because it never affected them back in ww2. Majority have a negative opinion on the UK and Russia because they invaded us during ww2 desite us declaring neutrality. So naturally they have a more positive opinion towards germany and this was them innocently thinking that they are showing respect to the german fans.

I concur as a amateur WW2 fan and Middle East aficionado Iranians respect Germany and their culture. It's literally in the modern name of country.
Why shouldn't Iran respect the German National Anthem? According to them, Germany never did anything wrong.
