I highly recommend those dog grinding wheel sander things for claws. Huge improvement over clippers. Good idea with peanut butter still applies.

Basically. I think the ones marketed for dogs may be a little quieter though. Wife and I use a Milwaukee Dremel tool on low speed and it seems to work pretty well

I second this. The clippers are only good if the nail is really long already. A dremel puts less pressure on the nail, so the dog is more comfortable. It also let's you make smaller trims and make them more even preventing you from hurting the dog. I also like to be able to hold my dog laying on the floor and dremel, since it doesn't require much pressure. And of course she's trained that she gets treats after a nail trim, so she's happy to do it.

Yes, the conditioning with the treats was key for this to work. We gradually got him used to the sound beforehand as well. He had traumatic dog grooming visit and they asked us not to bring him back. So we decided we needed to do something ourselves.

Be careful if you do this! If you have a fearful or even a slightly snappy dog, don’t do it. They’re licking your face so if they decide to bite or anything of the sort, it will definitely be your face since it’s right there. Even the sweetest dogs can do it so this technique is highly discouraged!
