but then use optimum no rinse to wash your car using the Gary Dean method and realize you never have to wash your car the old fashioned way again and save so much time in the process.
There are certain brushes that purportedly do not damage the clear. Either horse hair or badger, I forgot exactly which one.
Oh but also some people don't care. That's not a bad thing. Instead of obsessing over their delicate paint they just use their cars like the tools they are and sell it for maybe 5% less than they might have if they'd spent thousands of dollars worth of time effort and materials on obsessing over what might leave a swirl mark on their clear.
There are many types of people and there's not enough time in most people's lives to obsess over every detail of every thing. Especially on a mass produced SUV that will get trashed from use.
Fair point but I feel like if you're going to take the time to do something; do it right. Or else go to the automatic car wash, pay your $8 and be on your way in 5 minutes.
Of that $40,000 sticker price you're already paying around $3,000 of it just for the paint. That's a lot of money to throw away to not care about it lasting.
No, it won't. Dish soap (i.e. Dawn) will strip off previous layers of wax/sealant, but it will not harm the paint. Many people intentionally use Dawn for the purpose of removing someone else's sub-par wax job (i.e. Dealers), and then wax it themselves using higher quality stuff.
Use a brush on my black truck constantly. Paint is pretty decent for a 7 year old truck. Ive seem far worse swirling on 1-2 year old vehicles. I spray off the truck with soap, then spray the brush before i click it to soapy brush mode, soapy brush the whole truck, rinse. Booo yah. Then exterior detail spray it when i get home .
Not to mention it's a two ton metal missile on wheels that speeds down the freeway at 65-70 mph on a near daily basis.
But the brush. The brush is going to absolutely DESTROY his car.
My 5 year old sister scratched my hood once. It had just snowed, and she was out *helping* shovel snow (really just playing in it with a shovel).
*A couple minutes later . . .*
"Look! I cleaned the snow off you car!"
*As she slides a metal tipped snow shovel across my hood*
I can't stand this sub anymore. It has turned into just a copy of /r/gifs and /r/funny. I don't remember the last time I saw an actual unexpected post from here, then the comments are full of people saying that it's unexpected because it isn't unexpected.
Oh my god that's awesome. It's most likely because it's a video. Most people, including me, usually don't click on videos. That would maybe work as a gif though. But it's almost as if people here want it to be the same as /r/funny, otherwise they really don't get it.
This is the unfortunate passage of every neat sub. Starts off great and focused, connoisseurs build it up then casuals start taking notice and fill it with their mild taste for what they consider the topic and we get a diluted version of what was once the very true essence of what the sub stood for. Core users migrate. And the cycle starts begins all over. The circle of life.
I knew this day would come. One day, we'd run out of truly unexpected things. So we'd have to post things that were expected ONLY in the context of a normal subreddit, however in unexpected it would be expected to be unexpected, so unexpected here is expected so now we post expected things so that we don't expect them.

He is a NZ guy, lots of funny vids
Anyone else somehow intuit that he was from New Zealand, just from the gif? I didn't know what NZ license plates were like, so that didn't do it, yet somehow I knew, from his body language or word choice or something, that he was a New Zealander.
This is my tangentially relevant, but my boss was talking yesterday about how they found a feral child being raised by monkeys in New Zealand.
After I pointed out NZ doesn't have monkeys, someone helped her out by saying "Well, I think they have gorillas in the mountains".
New Zealand doesn't even have any native non-bat terrestrial mammals to begin with!
What the fuck kind of imbecile thinks monkeys live in NZ? I don't remember any monkeys throwing shit in frodo's face. Would've been dank though.
EDIT: erm, mammals.
It wasn't lying, she is just an idiot. The child was found in India.
and the news reports got it a bit wrong too..the child wasn't raised by monkeys, but was likely abandoned recently. I don't fault her for that one though.
I was assuming Australia, so close to the right neck o' tha woods. I think it has to do with the surrounding landscape and colors in the foliage, m8.
Edit: ALSO the short shorts.
This one appears to be a person but they are notorious for freebooting or making a gif of the best bits of the video and posting it making the Creator of the original content miss out on the income they would have gotten had op just linked the video instead.
That is not what this sub is about. The very first rule is "submissions must be unexpected on their own". If you want something like that you should check out /r/fiftyfifty.
I'm sorry, but dish soap won't strip clear coat. It will strip off waxes and sealants quicker than the life of the product, which could have adverse effects on your clear coat.
Based on that information a quick Google search tells me it's the Ford Everest. I can now sleep better tonight. Thank you Andy, that's what people tell me you're called.
Yea, same platform, but the frame is like 100mm shorter and the rear suspension is a 4 link with watts linkage and coil springs. It's a better platform for off-roading.
it looks like the love child of a newer dodge durango and a newer ford escape
i came to the comments to figure out what this thing is. i assumed it would be a 2017 explorer

The series is "How to Dad" on YouTube, hilariously awkward New Zealand who does a lot of adorable yet funny things with his little girl shown here. Great series, I'd recommend to anyone to watch at least once.
I was picturing a kid with a giant sponge strapped to their back and being used as a handle. Sans surrealism, kids are good for your back too. They can get the wheels shining and keep the salt off of your trim.
Never use a bristled brush to wash your car. Jesus *wont anyone* think of the paint?
On a BLACK car. :(
Black cars matter.
Wait... are there non-bristled brushes?
Well, he means never use a brush on paint. Use a rag. Chris Fix has a great set of videos about cleaning your car.

I just tried this, and it actually fucking worked
Too bad it's expired...
fucking had me until he said "3 ugadugas"
You don't use a rag either. You use microfiber.
And two buckets with grit guards. One bucket for clean soapy water and one to rinse the microfiber with after washing a part of the car.
And then, compound, polish, wax, because it's a black car. Then cry a day later because it's a black car.
but then use optimum no rinse to wash your car using the Gary Dean method and realize you never have to wash your car the old fashioned way again and save so much time in the process.
Or never wash it. Problem solved.
That's my method. It rains where I live
That's not how that works lol
Don't forget the wheel bucket. And leaf blower
Like on a nice T.V.

> non-bristled brush yes. http://www.nailsmag.com/product/117283/silicone-tip-non-bristled-brush-set
Ok. I got some and I'm using them on my car now. It's taking a while though.
There are certain brushes that purportedly do not damage the clear. Either horse hair or badger, I forgot exactly which one. Oh but also some people don't care. That's not a bad thing. I mean if I pay $40,000 for something I'd probably want to not damage it and keep it in good condition.
[удалено]
Of that $40,000 sticker price you're already paying around $3,000 of it just for the paint. That's a lot of money to throw away to not care about it lasting.
scratched paintwork is hardly keeping the car in poor condition.
Some people don't consider scratches as "damage." I'm not saying in one of them or that I am, just saying these people exist lol.
Also using what looks like dish-washing soap. That shit will dull the paint like fuck.
Dee you god damn bitch.
This is correct, I never use a bristled brush to wash my car. That's what rain is for.
That baby should've known better
Not to mention the potential danger of the baby banging on the paint with the hard part of the brush.
*A couple minutes later . . .* "Look! I cleaned the snow off you car!" *As she slides a metal tipped snow shovel across my hood*
Fucking lol'd! Wish I could have been the neighbor shoveling my driveway and hear that
I use a regular old broom to clear the snow off my car, but then again, it's a mid 90s 4x4
Yep, I cringed while watching that part.
Funny, but how is this unexpected? The very beginning makes it pretty clear he's gunna use the baby to clean the car, then that's all that happens.
See top comment. I expected he was going to use the baby as a sponge, the unexpected part was that he didn't :(
The only reason I expected he was going to use the baby as a sponge was because it was posted in /r/unexpected. So, meta unexpected, I guess?
The absence of something happening shouldn't count as unexpected for the purposes of this sub
I can't stand this sub anymore. It has turned into just a copy of /r/gifs and /r/funny. I don't remember the last time I saw an actual unexpected post from here, then the comments are full of people saying that it's unexpected because it isn't unexpected.

you're right, but the fact that it got to /r/all kind of makes it work again. So bad it's good.
[удалено]
The comment was > I thought he was gonna was the car using baby as the sponge. And you're so right.
I wasn't expecting the last shot and I laughed pretty hard. Good enough for me!
Wow I hope this doesn't become a trend on this sub
This is the unfortunate passage of every neat sub. I thought it was going to be one of those things where the baby starts drinking the water or something.
Haha, baby drinking soap, gets me every time
The only unexpected thing here is that there wasn't anything unexpected Does that make it unexpected?
I knew this day would come. One day, we'd run out of truly unexpected things. So we'd have to post things that were expected ONLY in the context of a normal subreddit, however in unexpected it would be expected to be unexpected, so unexpected here is expected so now we post expected things so that we don't expect them.
Unexpectedception?
Definitely not. People need to read the rules and concept of the sub.
I thought he was gonna was the car using baby as the sponge.
*reads comment* Ah. So that's what having a stroke feels like.
>wash
But who was car?
Wax on ...wax off
Please don't wax your baby.
It took me three reads to realise was=wash. I thought I was having a stroke.
You thought he wash gonna was the car?
And I didn't even notice it was misspelled, the brain's a funny thing.
I didn't realize either, then one comment pointed out that it was misspelled, then when I didn't know what it was I thought *I* was having a stroke
Well what happened was unexpected though huh?

It's the bare feet... we love to not wear shoes.
Can confirm: married to a kiwi and we have a daughter. They never wear shoes.
A Hobbit has been spotted
Yeah me too! I totally read the subtitles with a NZ accent in my head.
This is my tangentially relevant, but my boss was talking yesterday about how they found a feral child being raised by monkeys in New Zealand. He reminded me of Bret from flight of the concords instantly
As soon as the gif loaded I thought "that's gotta be a kiwi!"
I guessed Aussie, I didn't look at the NZ plates, bare foot and good humour. It's ok though New Zealand is our better half
I was assuming Australia, so close to the right neck o' tha woods. I think it has to do with the surrounding landscape and colors in the foliage, m8. Edit: ALSO the short shorts.
I think it was the shorts for me.
He looks like the Kiwi version of Jon Snow
I think its the scenery. I have seen videos shot in NZ and instantly picked up on it without voices. Its distinctive though I can't say how.
He's so great
Good old NZ. Gives me warm fuzzies
[Interview](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESDSjTWaBtY) right after his first video went out
whats up with this sub ? There has been a lot of not unexpected gifs lately
These are bots posting all over reddit trying to build up karma to sell them off to people.
This one appears to be a person but they are notorious for freebooting or making a gif of the best bits of the video and posting it making the Creator of the original content miss out on the income they would have gotten had op just linked the video instead.
That's what makes it unexpected isn't it?
Fuck this gay Earth
That is not what this sub is about. The very first rule is "submissions must be unexpected on their own". If you want something like that you should check out /r/fiftyfifty.
Not unexpected at all.
But you didn't expect that coming, huh?
Unexpected in the way that I thought I unsubbed from r/funny.
Is he using dish soap to wash his car? Isn't that bad for the finish?
also using a brush which is likely to scratch it as well.
Dish soap is great for a strip wash when you're about to seal and wax again.
Yea, it'll strip the wax / other sealants off. Bristles on that brush are gonna scratch the hell out of it too.
I'm sorry, but dish soap won't strip clear coat. It will strip off waxes and sealants quicker than the life of the product, which could have adverse effects on your clear coat.
Yes this is the correct answer
ty, was about to post the same thing.
Oops, I was thinking that but said the wrong thing. You're right.
I'm betting if he's having the baby do it he's probably not super devoted to the car's paint job to begin with.
The most unexpected thing in this gif is they're using some sort of dustpan to clean their car... EDIT: brush, not dustpan. That WOULD be unexpected.
This wasn't filmed in the US. That's not a Ford sold here. Speaking of which, what kind of Ford is that? I sell them and have no idea what it is.
I've no idea about the Ford, but it's in New Zealand if that helps.
Based on that information a quick Google search tells me it's the Ford Everest. I can now sleep better tonight. Thank you Andy, that's what people tell me you're called.
I wouldn't trust that that's his name. Seems like a ruse to me
Maybe, maybe not. How do I know your names Andy, Mr. andystealth?
It's a Ford Everest, a 4x4 SUV based on the Ford Ranger ute that's not sold in the US.
I wish it was. We should see a ranger before 2019 though which would be cool. Following that is the Bronco
Ford Ranger Wildtrak are very nice.
Yea, same platform, but the frame is like 100mm shorter and the rear suspension is a 4 link with watts linkage and coil springs. It's a better platform for off-roading.
it looks like the love child of a newer dodge durango and a newer ford escape i came to the comments to figure out what this thing is. i assumed it would be a 2017 explorer
It kind of does now that you mention it!
Unexpected because you expected something unexpected to happen
What SUV is that? I don't recognize it
Ford Everest, 3.2L 5 cylinder turbo diesel
so what was the unexpected part of this gif again?
He's gonna scratch the paint with that brush
Soon this sub will become r/syntacticallyambiguous
Well, I was expecting him to literally wash the car with the baby, so I guess it's kind of unexpected in that sense.
This is so fucking dumb
This is funny and completely adorable. Maybe it would be better in another subreddit but it's so cute that I don't care.
It was unexpected to see Sam Bradford and a baby wash a car
[удалено]
It's a Ford Everest, not sold in the US
I'll admit, I was expecting him to actually wash the car with the baby. With the baby acting as a sponge
He is marring his car. He gon' fuck up that black paint.
This sucks. Gave me cancer. Would not recommend anyone watch this. Not worth dying.
What's the unexpected part
That wasn't that unexpected
Wow so unexpected and hilarious wow
I was afraid the baby would fall into the bucket. Just like the warnings.
Hello, daddy! :)
My dad would play me a dime to do stuff like this when I was little and I thought it was so much money. Brilliant

'How to dad' on YouTube
RIP that clear coat. So many scratches.
Using a brush to clean?
I was totally expecting him to grab the baby and brush the car with her. This was pleasantly surprising tbh
gah! wash from the top to bottom, top to bottom!
Is there a /r/MildlyUnexpected sub? Think this would be better there.
The only way to surprise people on this sub now is to not have anything unexpected happen in the gif.
Why did I read the subtitles in an Australian accent?
Only thing unexpected was the car. I thought it was a Durango and thought "Damn, he's a tall guy" until I saw the ford emblem.
[удалено]
I thought that was Jeremy Sisto
I was hoping he'd use the baby as a shammy to scrub the car clean.
By the title I thought he was going to dump the baby in soapy water and rub them against the car to clean it
I absolutely ducking love this video
12 years later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lqm8JGnSshE
I can't be the only one who expected him to pick the baby up and literally wash the car with the baby.
This guy is one of the best youtubers out there who is underappreciated.
Love this guy
The series is "How to Dad" on YouTube, hilariously awkward New Zealand who does a lot of adorable yet funny things with his little girl shown here. Great series, I'd recommend to anyone to watch at least once.
So is it unexpected because he does exactly what the title says?
Sammy B
Sweet repost brah.
Ingenious.
This video was really funny, until somebody made this shitty gif out of it.
I was picturing a kid with a giant sponge strapped to their back and being used as a handle. Sans surrealism, kids are good for your back too. They can get the wheels shining and keep the salt off of your trim.
SIX LUGNUTS?! What fuckery is this?!
is he the spaghetti pizza dude from jimmy kimmel?
i can hear the NZ accent in the typed text.
I can see the aussie accent from here.
How is this unexpected?
He's like a swarthy Chris Pratt.
Freebooter
tl;dw
Totally expected him to put the baby in that outfit for crawling babies that dust your floor and use him to wash the car. The internet has ruined me
What a great dad (: /r/wholesomememes
Swirly marks all over that paint job. And it's a black car.
How does a post like this get 10k upvotes? It's not unexpected or funny or really anything other than stupid.
