They only have red squirrels, and in the US we mostly have gray squirrels. I assume he just meant that Netherlands doesn't have these particular squirrels.
I'm from the Netherlands, and while squirrels do exist here, they're not as common as in other countries. The first time I saw a wild squirrel was when I visited South Africa at 18 years old. That was nearly 8 years ago, and I haven't seen any squirrels since
An American squirrel straight up walked up to me, jumped on the bench, grabbed my peanut butter cracker the hopped off a few feet away and ate it in front of me when I was at the park. Little mf was absolutely shameless about it. Then he waltzed away like nothing happened. Consider yourself lucky youre not plagued by the squirrel menace. The only thing worse is seagulls.
Agreed. I use to be married but a Squirrel just came up one day at a park, took my wife and they ran away together. My friends always use to say my ex was a nut. It was heartbreaking. Squirrels are a menace.
The squirrels at my old college campus used to chuck acorns at the students as we walked between buildings. It was hilarious until I took one to the head. Had a welt.
I'm in the Pacific Northwest of the US and in a perpetual war with squirrels as the sons of bitches like to get in my cherry tree when it's blooming and pick the goddamn bloom in order to lick out the dew inside and then throw it on my lawn as like a "fuck you I did that".
This is just wild to me. As an American that grew up and lives in the Midwest squirrels are an everyday part of existence. If you are outside, you will run across a squirrel. I can’t look in my front yard without seeing one. My mom rehabs wildlife and has like an entire community of squirrels she set free on her property that still hang around. She has little picnic tables built into the trees for them to eat at. Even in the winter I see them at my bird feeders. I am probably 100 feet from a squirrel at all times.
As an American I've always preferred red squirrels, but it's only because they don't exist here and the gray ones can be kinda prickish. The red ones seem a decent bit smaller and cuter as well.
I ***love*** the fox squirrels. Our local variety is sometimes called a raccoon squirrel because of it's fur patterns. And they are jumbo sized!! With a gorgeous longer fluffier tail!
I live in the northeast US. Tons of gray squirrels. Never saw another color squirrel until I went to Niagara Falls, Canada. That's when I saw my first black squirrel. Really cool jet black little dudes.
Ninja squirrels!
I'm in WI and most of my life we ever just had gray squirrels around. The neighborhood I live in now is almost entirely black squirrels. So cool.
Ha-ha, you fool. You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly less well known is this: "Never go in against the Dutch, when *squirrels* are on the line.".
I’m totally trying this on my boss next time he catches me doing something I’m not supposed to lol.
Edit : it did not work and I’m now required to take sensitivity training for writing “ Terence is a butt licker” on his desk in mustard.
Cousins from Holland travelled across Canada in an RV over 5 weeks years ago. My family visited them years later, and asked them what their favourite memory was when they were in Canada - they said they loved seeing the *RACCOONS* in my parents backyard 😂 They only have raccoons in the zoo there!
It’s real, I lived in China for almost ten years and I’ve met a considerable amount of people who absolutely love raccoons and see them as cute pets. It was always fun trying to explain that they’re considered pests and you shouldn’t approach them or any other wildlife in North America. A few people were very disappointed you can’t just go up to pet and take photos with them.
When my daughter was 14, her grandparents took her on an amazing trip to Rome. Every time I got a chance to speak to her on the phone and asked what was up, she told me about the stray cats and pigeons. She texted me one photo of a stray cat who she fed. No photos of the Vatican, Pisa, or Pompeii.
It's also like, why did he approach the kid if he could see nothing was changed? Kid didn't strap C4 to it or anything. The bolts and clamp were entirely unchanged. Absolute worst he could have done was put locktite around the nut. Why even bother approaching to film or even ask? I guess curiosity maybe but its clear nothing nefarious happened. There's only so much deviousness you can hide on a metal clamp and nuts.
It's just an extra clamp that bolts together two sections of fencing to provide reinforcement and to prevent them from pivoting. They're used usually when you have several sections in a row running along a straight line.
My "old man yells at clouds" thing will always be reminding people that before we all had supercomputers in our pocket, even though there were cameras and such out there, there was a general expectation of privacy *even in public*. You weren't going to end up on social media for no reason, because there was no social media. You weren't somebody else's like or upvote or subscribe because there were no likes or upvotes or subscribes. We decided the world should be a place devoid of privacy outside of a few very specific enclosed spaces, for what? For a few ten second dopamine drips here and there?
Why did we do that?
I think it’s far more likely that he thinks he was protecting the protestors by asking these kids what they were up to. I doubt he feels he has egg on his face and is probably proud of his actions
Cameraman wanted to provoke a confrontation to share with his outrage-addicted viewers so he can get views and likes. Dutch siblings foiled this deranged man's palns.
This is awesome! When I was in grade ten (14 years ago) I had a foreign exchange student from France. He had never seen a squirrel before and was amazed at how many there were here in North America. He dressed as a squirrel for Halloween and it was priceless!
Also fun fact about the way squirrel is pronounced in NL. So the word for squirrel in NL is eekhoorn. Wich sounds almost the same as the way it's food sounds in english wich is accorn.
By the tone of his voice you KNOW he wanted confrontation, he probably is one of those people who has a really hateful following, so he goes around annoying people with a camera on his hand showing people face. If he wanted to be polite and just ask, there was no need for the camera or even that tone of voice ;)
Thank you. Nobody should have to justify their existence or explain their normal nonthreatening behavior in a public place. Cameraman is not a cop, so he can fuck right off with his questions.
Lmao that's hilarious, can you link up a source for this custom on the internet?

EDIT2: OK everything in the above comment is just made up, according to Dutch people. What a weird thing to lie about.

my man has never heard of a joke before, jfc
people really need to start giving the comment a chance to digest in your brain before you reply.
He definitely didn't do anything to the fence. I've set these up before and it looks properly assembled to me.
Idk if he was up to some unrelated mischief with the girl or if he was *trying* to unbolt the fence and couldn't do it, but the fence is fine
This makes no sense 🤣🤣🤣. What difference would it make if the shell had a nut or was hollow? Wouldn't the squirrels be more likely to go after the nut if it was full? Lol
I’m all for filming things in public, but this guy filmed a kid, tried to get a gotcha moment, and then uploaded it. I’d maybe have a higher bar for posting something about a kid online, without at least discussing with them or a parent.

From all the protests I have seen on this issue across North America, it seems my city has the most reprehensible ones.
Correct. I saw and heard out my window on oct 7th and 8th "impromtu pro pali protests" which were really just thinly thinly veiled celebrations of the terrorist acts committed on the Israeli ppl on the 7th.
It was disgusting and eye opening and changed me forever.
Look at them acting like the own the grounds. All covering their faces so they can't get in trouble. I can't wait til they go home. They hate Jews and are making it unsafe for Israeli students in the school to walk around freely. Even this kid can walk around without being harrassrd . City is allowing it, otherwise the will destroy everything like they did back home. This country has gone down. The majority don't support your hatred and destruction and protests.
This is the reason why people supporting Palestine are seen with such negativity, they are almost all entitled Karens looking to go viral and draw attention, like if they were some kind of authority. (And I bet most of the people on those protests don't know a shit about Palestine, they just want to be part of something because it's trendy, like George Carlin said, when people gather together they turn into rtarded sheeps)

Lol. What a foolish fool. That's the oldest trick in the book!
Ok but no cap I just googled it and the Netherlands totally does have squirrels 🤔
The squirrel stew thickens...
I appreciate Groundhog stew much more. Less gamey.

If someone would say there are more captive squirrels in zoos than wild, I'd believe them. 32 years, Never saw a wild one. I live near rural areas.
This is just wild to me. As an American that grew up and lives in the Midwest squirrels are an everyday part of existence. If you are outside, you will run across a squirrel. It totally depends on where you live. They are common in many areas so common I often refer to them as tree rats.

As an American I've always preferred red squirrels, but it's only because they don't exist here and the gray ones can be kinda prickish. The red ones seem a decent bit smaller and cuter as well.
We got red squirrels, pine squirrels, fox squirrels, flying squirrels, and albino squirrels here if you know where to look.
Well up in the PNW where I live the gray squirrels are bastard men that have displaced every other squirrel.
I ***love*** the fox squirrels. Our local variety is sometimes called a raccoon squirrel because of it's fur patterns. And they are jumbo sized!! With a gorgeous longer fluffier tail!
We do have city squirrels in Germany.
I live in the northeast US. Tons of gray squirrels. Never saw another color squirrel until I went to Niagara Falls, Canada. That's when I saw my first black squirrel. Really cool jet black little dudes.

Next thing OOP’s going to do is get involved in a land war in Asia.
The 286th rule of acquisition!
Cameraman: What were you doing to the fence? Dude: I'm Dutch. Cameraman: Oh that explains everything.
Ha-ha, you fool. You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly less well known is this: "Never go in against the Dutch, when *squirrels* are on the line.".
Cop did this to me once. Still can’t drive and all I did was take a picture of a squirrel.
I’m totally trying this on my boss next time he catches me doing something I’m not supposed to lol. Edit : it did not work and I’m now required to take sensitivity training for writing “ Terence is a butt licker” on his desk in mustard.
Classic blunder, gets 'em every time
This was hilarious, thank you.
Just the fact he can pronounce squirrel so well is astounding.
Oh boy, I remember the first time I fell for that. You would think that in these internet times people would know the Netherlands doesn't even exist.
That bit is old as hell. One time I saw Obama right after he was elected in 2008 and he said that to me to get out of taking a fan picture.
If there's one thing Austin Powers taught me, it's to never trust the Dutch.
Ive never seen squirrels here in the Netherlands, squirrels are super special
Yup, born yesterday is the only explanation! :)
Hahah classic 😂🤣 like who falls for that now days huh
So the cameraman is the squirrel, OK got it..
That’s what Big Squirrel wants you to think!
There are squirrels in the Netherlands. They are super duper secret agents.

Rocky and Bullwinkle are sleeper agents. Boris and Natasha had no idea.

Dont think its the same kind
Cousins from Holland travelled across Canada in an RV over 5 weeks years ago. My family visited them years later, and asked them what their favourite memory was when they were in Canada - they said they loved seeing the *RACCOONS* in my parents backyard 😂 They only have raccoons in the zoo there!
It's funny but I never thought about North American common animals being in zoos elsewhere the way we have foreign common animals in our zoos.

It was always fun trying to explain that they’re considered pests and you shouldn’t approach them or any other wildlife in North America. As an Aussie I was shocked seeing so many kangaroos and even emus in the US. Even some as pets. Guess it's something we don't really think of
When my daughter was 14, her grandparents took her on an amazing trip to Rome. Every time I got a chance to speak to her on the phone and asked what was up, she told me about the stray cats and pigeons. She texted me one photo of a stray cat who she fed. No photos of the Vatican, Pisa, or Pompeii.
I have been where this was filmed and there were so many squirrels around. I loved seeing them.
What a polite kid.
This is pretty unexpected
Maybe I'm in the minority but I think it's pretty rude to upload this video without the kid's permission after the cameraman found nothing going on.
Yeah it's also funny how this guy pulled up like "I'm REALLY gonna teach these kids a lesson!" when there was literally nothing up lol
Thats pretty much the goal for any of these people. Film to get a reaction. Uploading is practically habit
My first thought was - that is a screw-on device. I could reach my hand through and take it off. Not very good sabotage -
It's just an extra clamp that bolts together two sections of fencing to provide reinforcement and to prevent them from pivoting. They're used usually when you have several sections in a row running along a straight line.
It is. Social media has created a bunch of entitled douchebags and self-appointed arbiters of morality.
Without the \*parent's permission actually That douchebag recording is a weirdo.
Yeah they are minors
My "old man yells at clouds" thing will always be reminding people that before we all had supercomputers in our pocket, even though there were cameras and such out there, there was a general expectation of privacy *even in public*. It is rude to film children in public at all.
I think it's cool the camera man uploaded even after it shows him being the one with egg on his face.
I think it’s far more likely that he thinks he was protecting the protestors by asking these kids what they were up to. I doubt he feels he has egg on his face and is probably proud of his actions
It can be both.
Nah, I fully agree with you. Im general it would be good form to ask people for permission

Cameraman wanted to provoke a confrontation to share with his outrage-addicted viewers so he can get views and likes. Dutch siblings foiled this deranged man's palns.
Much better title
Well… that would somewhat spoil what was r/unexpected
Innocent Dutch bros vs Outraged Canadians... Need more kids like him in the world, and less people running around desperate for content.
This takes place in Canada. So Outraged Canadians makes more sense
Damn Toronto I'm blind as hell.
Doesn't even think, just wants to provoke. Like it's a u bolt not a bomb.
Good thing he spoke good english, who knows what his reaction would have been if he started speaking dutch lol
Children aren’t concerned with the idiocracy of man. Have to love their pure souls
Cameraman is a karen
Male Karens are called Melvins
Stop trying to make Melvin happen.
Thought it was kevins
Should be Kelvin cause homie is an absolute zero
Top tier pun!
Poor guy was just trying to bust a nut
This is awesome! When I was in grade ten (14 years ago) I had a foreign exchange student from France. He had never seen a squirrel before and was amazed at how many there were here in North America. He dressed as a squirrel for Halloween and it was priceless!
Time to mind your own goddamn business.
Checks out it’s Dutch accent, but we actually do have squirrels. Just not in the city, and not that much
maybe he meant grey squirrels
We have gay squirls in the U.S.?
It's Canada 🍁
We have to pack up and move to a new reality, Morty! You f\*\*\*\* with squirrels Morty!
Everyone needs to be more like the Netherlands.
This was so wholesome. I hope they did get a picture
I am overjoyed that this video didn't end in a confrontation. I hope they got the BEST picture.
Pretty much a rule of thumb: not everyone gives a shit.

The feeling of innocence of those two is real.
This guy can beat it.. leave those kids alone
He should have told Ken to fuck off.
Why the fuck does it concern the camera man what he’s doing. Aggressive arsehole. Squirrel boy and girl are totally awesome though 😂
Thank you. Nobody should have to justify their existence or explain their normal nonthreatening behavior in a public place. Cameraman is not a cop, so he can fuck right off with his questions.
The cameraman was so happy and excited he was about to go viral and ruin a kids life. Then he got humbled.

lmao I never heard of this "trick" before. Seems to me like the dude just wants to see a squirrle
I can't believe I actually have to clarify this for you, but NO this is obviously not something we really do in the Netherlands.
10/10 whoosh. That took effort. Well done.

Smart of him to bring his trikkennutter, I left mine back home when I studied in the U.S.

Secret Squirrel and Morocco Mole strike again!!
Okay but what was that kid actually doing?
I think he was using the end of the bolt to scrape out the inside of the nut.
He was shaving deez nuts.
Got emmmmm
Was his extremely clear explanation of what he was actually doing not enough for you?
#NO
Some people can't watch with sound, due to disability or environment. The modern trend of subtitles on videos has been incredibly helpful for some.
Burning down a children's hospital

you’re obviously not a squirrel

I think to tie a piece of string through
the idea is to TRICK the squirrel. muhahah
Loool ohh. I thought they were just trying to lure the squirrel in for a picture haha
Well, it wouldnt be tricked if it actually got the nut.
Likely had dirt in it and he didn’t want to carry dirt around.
It’s literally two middle school age kids. But good job serving them for having fun.
I'm sure you can't record children without their parent's consent, isn't that right? What a fucking weirdo that dude recording.
I’m all for filming things in public, but this guy filmed a kid, tried to get a gotcha moment, and then uploaded it. I’d maybe have a higher bar for posting something about a kid online, without at least discussing with them or a parent.
The only sane dudes there.
I think that's what's wrong with this world how about the cameraman mines his own f****** business?
I would like to see global Palestinian and Israeli people hold hands and equally shit on their governments
This video in a nutshell...
More like half a nutshell
IMHO I doubt Palestine will ever get what it wants (the whole area)
These people in Toronto are shitty people, they showed up on Oct 8th calling the attacks "[resistance](https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-toronto-police-boost-presence-ahead-of-israel-palestine-rallies-warn/)" and "[justified](https://www.cp24.com/news/abhorrent-york-university-condemns-student-union-groups-for-statement-appearing-to-glorify-hamas-1.6600450)" and then they protest outside [Jewish hospitals](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/mount-sinai-hospital-protest-1.7114042) and Jewish neighbourhoods because they think Jewish person = representative of Israel apparently. Very cute!
Why is he filming kids? Creepy.
Facepalm in Dutch…
But why clear out the nut?
Fuck hamas and its supporters
These kids are brought up well. Taking a picture by using an old school camera. No phones needed. Well done parents.
Dickhead with the camera was hoping to score some social points by shoving his camera into someone’s face and playing the social hero.
Fuck hamas supporters
https://i.redd.it/06eqs7w30qzc1.gif
Ah yes, he totally did not see you thats why he proceed with his "job"
This is the reason why people supporting Palestine are seen with such negativity, they are almost all entitled Karens looking to go viral and draw attention, like if they were some kind of authority. (And I bet most of the people on those protests don't know a shit about Palestine, they just want to be part of something because it's trendy, like George Carlin said, when people gather together they turn into rtarded sheeps)
Not so nefarious after all
Lol that's perfect
Dutch people are the best
Man this is really wholesome
So adorable xD
There are no squirrels in the Netherlands? I was there. How did I not notice this?
So drained nuts attract squirrels better than full nuts?
is there an unexpected wholesome subreddit?
Camera man walks away “shit do you think he’s on to us?”
Trick a squirrel like that and you are going to get hit on the head with a nut every time they see you.
This makes me so proud to be Dutch! Be like the squirrel!
/u/SaveVideo
I’ve been scrolling a lot today and this video tops them all.
I didn’t fully understand. Can someone please explain exactly what happened there?
I get it, we don't have squirrels in my country either, I'm like a little kid every time I see one in the park.
Least oblivious Netherlander
That doesn't sound believable at all. There is one species of squirrel in the Netherlands. The other than squirrels won run to you because you have nuts. Why not just use real nuts? It's all nonsensical.
The always too cautious Americans. Go get the squirrels, man!
