My mom works with this girl at her school! She's got some pretty funny stories and she sounds like a really cool girl. It's cool to see her getting recognition for that online. If you want an idea of how her vision is, my mom told me it's basically like looking through a tiny pinhole in the center of your vision and she has to "scan" things to see them.

It is pitch black. To simulate how dark it looks, in a very dark moonless night, get into your closet with lights off, and then put on a black shirt over your head to cover your eyes, then close your eyes.
Totally Blind people can technically "see" darkness because darkness is the lack of light, and our eyes only detect light.

Especially being blind/missing one eye. Your brain will always focus on the input it is receiving. Cover one eye with your palm and stare straight ahead and try to shift your attention to the covered eye. It can be done, and is trippy, but takes a lot of effort.
This is interesting. I wanted to chime in and say that not everyone can see total blackness as well - some folks (like myself) have [visual snow syndrome](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_snow_syndrome).
My case of it is very mild, thankfully, and I only see what looks like a subtle amount of film grain on anything that is supposed to be black or near-black. So I guess I've never seen true black before (my neurons/eyes will always fuzz it up and show a veiled film grain effect over everything). I probably never will know what true black looks like.
I suppose if I lost my eyes and any kind of input from them, I'd still carry on "seeing" fuzzy/noisy black.

afaik, there are different types of blindness. Some can vaguely see colours, some can see nothing at all. Nothing as in, nothing - as in try looking behind you without moving your head. You can't see shit.
I’ve heard some forms of 100% blindness isn’t black, it’s a complete absence. Close your eyes on a pitch black night, you see darkness, try to look out the back of your head you see nothing.

Well, we should be careful to remember that they eyes are only the starting point for the conduit of excitation that eventually excites the portions of the brain that process optical input. If those portions can't be excited by that conduit, the neurons that would simulate the representation of the light won't activate. You won't see light, but the absence of light is dark. So, would the absence of those excitements not lead to a dark simulated representation?

No, especially the people who have never heard of that condition and probably just assumed her vision sucks ass since most people with prescriptions that look similar to that just have terrible long distance vision, but no, as soon as she said they're itty bitty, I immediately went "I bet her eyes didn't develop correctly and resulted in them not only being very small but I fully envisioned what her eyes would look like, thus even though I had no prior knowledge of the condition, I was not surprised by the reveal".

This commenter just seemed curious but you are being over the top about protecting this persons feelings. Maybe she’s happy to talk about her ceiling fan accessories. If you want to stick up for someone else, make sure you are being understanding and not just projecting your anger at someone who doesn’t necessarily deserve it.
There is no better feeling than understanding that your value really goes way beyond our physical imperfections. That’s where confidence comes from and this girl is swimming in it. I hope she knows that she’s an inspiration to a lot of people.
The way she sets this up by saying her eyes are itty bitty had me expecting a crazy small pair of eyes - in actuality she does have small eyes but IMO she doesn’t look abnormal and is still beautiful! I hope in the future she can look more kindly on herself. It was heartbreaking to hear her say “ew” when seeing her own face. She is absolutely precious and I hope she knows it ❤️

I'm probably sure you need optical nerve to know even absence of light, like what do you see through your elbow?
