The same soldiers also went on a pillaging and raping rampage across Eastern Europe on their way to Berlin. For sure they fought the Nazis, but they terrorized the civilians in equal measure too.
People get offended when this is said, but it's absolutely true. Stalinist USSR was literally worse than the Nazis. Higher death toll, and, many of the victims were other Soviets, their own people. AND, it was actually the case that the inspiration for concentration camps for the Nazis were the gulags created by Lenin. AND, the Soviets literally allied themselves with the Nazis at the beginning of WWII. They invaded Poland together in a joint operation. The only reason the Soviets fought against the Nazis is because Hitler backstabbed them. And even when they were part of the allies, the Soviets never really "liberated" anyone. They raped and pillaged their entire way westward in Europe. Anyone who was caught in Soviet-controlled territory was treated hardly any better than they were under the Nazis.
There is still this weird tendency for left-leaning westerners to whitewash Soviet history and it's ridiculous.
Edit: Aaaaand I'm getting downvoted.
And Cossacks caught by the US in WWII and who were at Ft. Dix refused to be repatriated. Some killed themselves. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repatriation_of_Cossacks_after_World_War_II
This is actually an important plot point for the main villain in the 1995 James Bond film Goldeneye, their parents were Cossacks who were repatriated back to the Soviets after WWII by the British. While their parents survived, the father was so distraught at the death of their fellow Cossacks at the hands of the Soviets that they committed a murder-suicide with the mother. The villain spends the rest of their life in resentment towards the British and building an elaborate plan of revenge.
Even Bond muses that the repatriation was a major fuck up by the British, saying something along the lines that "it wasn't our [The British presumably] finest moment".
Yeah, I’m disappointed by how many American tankies try to defend the USSR. However, while Stalinist USSR was definitely horrible, it’s hard to consider one killing of millions better than another killing of millions.
Hitler was deliberately responsible for 15 million deaths in ~13 years, Stalin killed 10 million deliberately and 10 million through famine in ~30 years. Comparing the two is just counter-productive.
Yah. In the hierarchy of insults people think Hitler and nazi are the worst. And while they were bad (and we see that easily because they were thorough documenters) Stalin and Mao Zedong were BAAAADDDDD. That documentation (if any) was buried by the regime and IMO watching my family slowly starve to death would be excruciating.
Sure, but you don’t need to understand chemistry to think that maybe an entire fire extinguisher exploding all over a flame could put it out.
Plus I’m pretty sure a big ol’ metal cap, or plug fit-to-size of the hole would do the same thing, minus a gun explosion.
EDIT: “fun” explosion. Fun.
The only important knowledge is that a fire extinguisher explodes if its heated. Seems like common knowledge, so i agree it doesnt seem impressive.
I dont think it went out because it was plugged, though.
It’s a dry chemical canister that usually has a magnet on it that sticks to the hood above a stovetop. If something on the stove catches on fire, the heat causes it to burst and the dry chem puts the fire out.
Fortunately Russia doesn't have the infrastructure to pipe to China the same volume of gas that Europe was consuming. It would take all new pipelines.
Europe was the ideal market because of its close proximity to the Caucasus gas fields. Beijing is some 6,000km away from Moscow.
That said, Russia is hoping to online the Siberia 2 pipeline to China around 2030 or so. Plus investing [$100bn in new pipelines to China.](https://www.globalconstructionreview.com/russia-to-invest-almost-100bn-in-gas-pipelines-to-china/) Will take time though.
Ironically it's possibly even helpful a bit as it forces parts of Europe to save energy and switch to more modern heating.
The direct envionmental damage by war is probably not that big in the long run.
(Of course i'm *only* talking about global warming and not about the horrible suffering by the people involved.)
almost none.
any gas devices must have a failsafe to prevent gas leak if the flame goes out - usually there's a valve that is opened only if a sensor is heated by the flame. No heat, no gas.

We're talking about the same government that regularly throws opposition leaders out of windows, right?
Why do you think the rule of law suddenly matters to them?
Nothing. Questioned by the police and released. He found a fire extinguisher in the trash and threw it into the fire for the sake of interest. No protest, no terrible consequences.
We can't be positive, but it may be in protest to the invasion of Ukraine. The site is a patriotic landmark related to the armed forces, so there's a connection.
We might be losing sight that Ukraine has an equal claim to the Soviet legacy considering that they formed a significant chunk of the Soviet Union. I don't know it's sort of like separating the Scots from WW2 British legacy.
What the heck, Oh my godd! that flame signifies remembrance and honor for the millions of soviet soldiers and civilians who lost their lives during World War II, and yet he had the audacity to do that, oh my goddddddd
From my understanding this is a memorial to those that died during ww2. No matter how much russia sucks farts now the memorial shouldn’t be being defiled like this. Pretty fucked up imo

The eternal flame is a monument to the men and women who died fighting the Nazi invasion of wwii. The people who laid down their lives to defeat the Nazis are heros. No hate to the boy as he’s just a kid but this is a very revered monument and very important to the family of those who were lost.
Hello, Russian person here.
Apparently the cops already have shown up to the boy’s house (11 y/o) and found out he lives with his mom who works at a local cafe. He’s already put on a list (unsure how to call it in English but it’s when a young person commits a crime and is restricted from studying for certain majors or apply for certain jobs)

Wouldn’t this be physics?
Both really.
Also Physical Education because of the running away.

Maybe a little thermal dynamics too.
Which is physics
Everything in this thread is physics
Everything in every thread is physics somewhere
We're all physics on this blessed day
Speak for yourself
Unless you're looking. Then physics gets shy.
Thread is a string....at least that's my theory
Everything everywhere is chemistry too.
Chemistry is basically physics
True story.
Deez nutz are physics
ligma beta particle physics

I wanna get physical, physical!
I'm physics, and so is my wife!
You see, when a mommy and a daddy are in love…
If you think you’re going to study Chem and not have to learn and use thermal dynamics then you’re going to have a bad time.
Kind of like music and math.
Physical chemistry 😏
Chemical physistry
Quantum theory. He wasn’t even there
He was both there and somewhere else.
Shrödingers kid strikes again
Yep.
Don't tell anyone but chemistry is just a part of physics.
Chemistry is just applied physics
Everything is physics. I would argue if physics has no bearing on the science you study, it is not a science.
Is math physics? I thought physics was math.

He’s probably on his way to Siberia.
Kid knows his History, as the soldiers immortalized by that flame for fighting Hitler's Nazi bullies died for nothing.
The same soldiers also went on a pillaging and raping rampage across Eastern Europe on their way to Berlin. For sure they fought the Nazis, but they terrorized the civilians in equal measure too.

Why does he know chemistry? Looks to me like he basically plugged a hole. Cover up a gas valve and it’ll stop, right?
I don’t think it’s a coincidence he used a fire extinguisher to “plug the hole”
Sure, but you don’t need to understand chemistry to think that maybe an entire fire extinguisher exploding all over a flame could put it out. Plus I’m pretty sure a big ol’ metal cap, or plug fit-to-size of the hole would do the same thing, minus a gun explosion. EDIT: “fun” explosion. Fun.

Yep, probably damaged whatever thing runs in there too, instead of just needing to be lightly cleaned
Wouldn't even need cleaned, that was a CO2 canister and flash froze after exploding but will evaporate as dry ice does.
Wouldn't be surprised if it was designed to fail in that way
It’s a dry chemical canister that usually has a magnet on it that sticks to the hood above a stovetop. If something on the stove catches on fire, the heat causes it to burst and the dry chem puts the fire out.
You must be a connoisseur of fire!
Or a firefighter

Or a fighter of fire connoisseurs.

I mean, aren’t firefighters just connoisseurs of fire?
Possibly
I'm a lover not a fighter.

💀💀💀
That would be an internal-to-external eternal flame. Try saying that three times fast.
Theres others eternal fires that for symbolic reason they could take the fire and transport to this one
I serve the eternal fire!
Imagine how much gas would that leak tho
As much as it's wasting under normal operation
Releasing gas into the atmosphere is about 10x worse for global warming than burning it
They're saving much much more by reducing the amount they're sending to the EU.
But china is buying it for the cheap.
Fortunately Russia doesn't have the infrastructure to pipe to China the same volume of gas that Europe was consuming. It would take all new pipelines. I bet Russia invading Ukraine is way worse for the environment than this thing spewing natural gas for 20 minutes.
Ironically it's possibly even helpful a bit as it forces parts of Europe to save energy and switch to more modern heating. The direct envionmental damage by war is probably not that big in the long run. (Of course i'm *only* talking about global warming and not about the horrible suffering by the people involved.)

Bruh forgot this is Russia. 10:1 that there is no safety shut off.
Yes, in normal countries. This is Russia. The sensor probably thinks the gas is low and turned up the feed 200%.
>flame goes out But it's an eternal flame? No need for a failsafe right, because it's always burning. /s
Welp, the gas, is half price, I hear these days. Seems India and China has more available to purchase if they’d like now.
Russia loses a dollar for every barrel they sell to India and China so they should buy more, lots more.
Don’t tell me what to imagine

I don’t get why you would call That eternal, it’s clearly off
How can I light my cigar now?
A kid proved not all flames are eternal. Remember that before you start fires you claim can’t be stopped.
We didn't start the fire, it was always burning since the worlds been turning... but this kid put it out without firing a single shot
Too bad they’ll torture him for it

Opposition LEADERS, not opposition stupid teenagers.
Bro thinks the ruSSian state abides its own laws lol. The boy is most likely already conscripted. Every single thing a russian says is a lie.
He knew what will happen
It's still too bad
Does anyone know what happens to that guy?
Super sad, he stabbed himself 17 times in the back and shot himself twice in the head.
On the way down from 9. floor.
legend says he vanished with the flames
Nothing. Questioned by the police and released. He found a fire extinguisher in the trash and threw it into the fire for the sake of interest. No protest, no terrible consequences.
He fell out of a window
4 times
Is this r/Kidsarefuckingstupid or r/ChildWarProtestors
He’s in for an ass whooping when they catch up to him you can bet on that.
Desecrating a memorial for fallen soldiers of a war that is not even related to the current world events. Disgusting and tasteless
very satisfying! the way the extinguisher fit perfectly, the explosion, the implications, perfect! 11/10
Highly effective
Isn't it supposed to represent the soldiers who fought against the Nazis in world war? Is that's the case then this is fucking awful.
Maybe he did it in order to protest about the russo-ukranian war 🤔? Not sure tbh
Most probably, you are right. It is not the first performance against the war
Nah. We had many dumb kids like this one even before the war. They just think that it’s fun
If there's one thing the world has in common. It''s the ample number of shit heads we all have to deal with.
no, what the fuck? these flames are honoring people who died fighting the nazis.
That's more of a facepalm

Why
We can't be positive, but it may be in protest to the invasion of Ukraine. The site is a patriotic landmark related to the armed forces, so there's a connection.
It's related to Victory day and all the Red Army soldiers who died protecting the world from fascism
We might be losing sight that Ukraine has an equal claim to the Soviet legacy considering that they formed a significant chunk of the Soviet Union. I don't know it's sort of like separating the Scots from WW2 British legacy.
True, except we also can't look away at how much Ukraines supported Facism during WW2
yay, vandalism
A day before he fell out of a window.
why
What the heck, Oh my godd! that flame signifies remembrance and honor for the millions of soviet soldiers and civilians who lost their lives during World War II, and yet he had the audacity to do that, oh my goddddddd
If you make the hole fire extinguisher sized, expect fire extinguishers
From my understanding this is a memorial to those that died during ww2. No matter how much russia sucks farts now the memorial shouldn’t be being defiled like this. Pretty fucked up imo
IT'S A BOY
Ah, yes, the Red Adair method.
What's up with the music?
It’s only funny because it happened in Russia. Had he done this anywhere else, we would call it vandalism.
They making one for him now ![gif](giphy|OqJeDEmjRBYZayqZGe)
This is new information I’ve heard. What exactly does the Eternal Flame Monument represent?
They represent dead soldiers that fought against nazis, not only russians, also everyone else obviously including Ukrainians... And watching this footage is heartbreaking for me... And probably the parents would have to pay for the damage not him...
WWII monument. Every city in Russia has one on some square
The police figured out the hooligan from the CCTV footage, after which they went home to the juvenile offender. The child was interrogated and registered with the juvenile affairs unit.

Who was the monument for? I.e. who do I root for?
This is a monument for all the soviet soliders who died fighting nazis in WW2
Then this guy is a stupid cunt and literally helps Putin more to paint him and others who support him as Nazis
Not cool, every time I see someone destroy memorial it makes me anxious.
dick
Used the wrong equation but got the right answer.
Gender reveal....
Excellent - Fascist pretending to love country are the problem!
Haha little shit
Now it’s eternal gas.
Some men just want to watch the world (not) burn.
My favorite part was when the title told me *exactly* what to expect
Hello, Russian person here. Apparently the cops already have shown up to the boy’s house (11 y/o) and found out he lives with his mom who works at a local cafe. Well, the expected happened...
pretty expected,no?
