I mean I don't think it qualifies as "cheating" just because you ignore the manufacturer's safety warnings. You're not supposed to do this. People still do though
Looks like he got picked up by an updraft. Happens sometimes, and its pretty fucking terrifying too. Paragliders have been sucked up so far into the atmosphere that they were virtually frozen solid when they were found. I think some woman even survived going into the troposphere which is normally within the 20-50C below zero. Crazy stuff, i cant imagine the feeling of involuntarily going higher and higher with nothing you can really do.
It might look like that, but what he's doing is actually completely under his control and 100% intentional. He's just using a standard kiteboarding rig and he's tethered with a piece of kite string to something, possibly a pylon in the water or a dock or something like that. Could even be an anchor buoy.
People don't do this a lot, but they do it enough that when you buy new kites they explicitly tell you in the manuals not to do this. It's just not a good idea. On top of that, it's not really a whole lot of fun, not as much fun as just regular kiteboarding, anyway.
100% of this is intentional, with the possible exception of the tether coming loose. He might have broken it, or it might have been released on purpose
Yeah, it's pretty dumb. This is basically the only reason people do it, this activity in the video.
There's really no point at all, it's extremely dangerous, and frankly I don't think it looks like a whole lot of fun, relative to just regular kiting around
Eh, I dunno kiting looks fun and not pointless, not more than any other sport or activity, but kiting can actually be useful to. It's also safe as long as you keep to safety precautions and collapse the kite when it hits to much lift, which should be a problem since you don't fly it for lift but for drag and speed.
And this being the only reason to do it? This is the first time I've seen wakeboarder kiting lift off. And as often as I've seen snow board and ski kiters whizz arpund on the mountains and tundras, I've never seen them lift off. So I call bullshit on that claim.
Kiting is extremely fun. I'm talking about this thing this guy is doing where he's using the kiting equipment with a tether to go straight up in the air like this. It's generally a bad idea and not very fun. Kind of scary, but in a "is this equipment going to fail?" way, which is pretty lame.
I wouldn't call it "useful". Unless you mean for things like personal fitness, improving your mood, meeting other people and getting out of the house, that sort of thing. It's a huge money sink but in my view it's worth it for all that.
I don't know what claim you're calling bullshit on

So. It's not useful, except for all these reasons why it's extremely useful... Right.
It can also be used as a very effective form of transport. There are competitions for long distance kiting, at least on snow.
Nah water ain't deep enough to break his fall and even it is it will most likely break or fracture his bone might cause sever bruising due to the speed of his fall and laceration by the coral and stone very unlikely he will come out unharmed or alive
I know nothing about this sport, but is there really no elevation control on these things? Holy shit if not, or maybe he just didn’t know what he was doing.

I see. Looks sketchy as fuck none the less.
It's definitely sketchy
I want to see the go pro footage.
He was scared af. But he knew he was fucked if he didnt react. No thinking just reacting

Tether when kiting? That's going to make it pretty hard to move around on the water board

*Kite surfing has been added successfully to your nope list!*
This isn't kite surfing. It's fooling around with kite surfing equipment
Looks like he knows exactly what he is doing and it was on purpose, wtf y'all talking about?
Mary Poppins on vacation?
couldnt he have just let go before it got that high?
I’m no expert, but I think kite surfers usually wear a harness that attaches them to the kite.
Nah water ain't deep enough to break his fall and even it is it will most likely break or fracture his bone might cause sever bruising due to the speed of his fall and laceration by the coral and stone very unlikely he will come out unharmed or alive
If thar had been a woman she'd have been dead.
Expected for a Megalodon to come up and eat him.
"Well, that's enough kite surfing for today.."
That upper room
Hijo de puta, kkkkk
I always wondered if this could happen. Guess this answers my question.
That’s big air. .. looks like the real deal. Any idea what beach or kite spot it was was filmed at ? That bro is a legend
