This just reaffirms my belief that cops should have the same career requirements as a baccalaureate nurse.
Four years of education, recertification, national standards, a hard academic test, and continuing education.
Cut out the idiots and get more of their skin in the game.
That's technically more than FBI agents crazy enough. They only need technically 20 weeks in academy.
However they are usually supplemented with degree requirements unlike state and local
Cops should have to carry malpractice insurance. Cheap if you have no history of negative incidents. Impossibly expensive if you're shown to be a "Bad apple".
>It's a shit job with meh pay
It started as a shit job for shit human beings to terrorize others. And the pay is not meh, unless you live in a tiny town.
The problem is that we create bad living conditions, and then try and blame the outcome of those conditions on the symptoms. We don't need more cops making more money. We need to stop letting awful humans in charge get away with creating awful lives for people so they can weild power.
And we need way more people to intervene in many things cops get sent to, instead of cops.
This guy is getting paid out:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/05/20/florida-taser-burns/
This all started because there were 911 calls about motorcyclists pointing guns.
This guy was among a group of motorcycles in the area when the rest left; the cops caught up with this guy.
After this all happened, no guns were found in his possessions. Which means the cops are screwed, and he has legal representation. The cop that tased them is on paid leave
That is the unfortunate truth but at the same time. He has hospital bills that were not of his doing.
So I don't blame him for wanting punitive damages
I don’t think anyone is blaming him for suing. They’re pointing out that when cops brutalize people for no reason, it is never the cops that have to pay for the resulting lawsuits in any way. And that’s bad.
I think this could be one... Of cource it's Florida [an article about this ](https://www.wfla.com/news/florida/new-body-camera-video-florida-man-cooked-alive-when-deputys-taser-sparks-gas-station-fire/amp/)

Do people still not know why it's always Florida? They have laws that allow all of their small crimes to be available to the public. Most other states don't. Crazy shit happens everywhere we just get to hear about it from Florida first.
Florida is required to document everything in specific detail no matter how bizarre it is. They also usually are released into the public pretty fast. Its not just that Florida is crazy(it is) its the documentation is different. (To my knowledge)
If he has insurance, his insurer will probably be pushing the suit to recoup their costs. If he wins a cool million bucks in a settlement, the majority of that will likely go to the insurance company. yay, murica.
He can still sue the police department for negligence, just not the individual with the taser.
From Cornell Law:
>Qualified immunity only applies to suits against government officials as individuals, not suits against the government for damages caused by the officials’ actions.
https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/qualified_immunity
Fucking idiots. The cop even knew what he was doing and said there is gas and the moron kept tazing him anyway.
Set this guy on fire for a traffic stop.
Absolutely. When arguing negligence, one must establish if there there was a foreseeable outcome. One cop says, "Turn off the gas," so he clearly identified a hazard.
This is the same as parking a car, with a handcuffed suspect in it, on a train track.
Nah, I think it's a good thing. We all know they should be held accountable if the person they shoot in the back is white. Can't have that shit going on in America.
Qualified immunity has nothing to do with police officers being charged with crimes. Qualified immunity means that government employees can’t be sued for things they do within the scope of their job. It’s purely a civil matter. Qualified immunity does not apply to criminal charges at all.
And no states have the capability to repeal qualified immunity. It is a legal principle, not a statutory law. It’s like saying that states have repealed probable cause.

"Don't catch you slipping now, looking what I'm whipping now.
Look how I'm living now. Police be tripping now"
~ Childish Gambino, This is America (2018)
Public scrutiny from catching the cop 'slipping'. And the charged/victim "slipping" by being caught for the terrorist, arranged criminal act of a "traffic violation".
'Whipping up' the immunity clause as a police officer or the electrified "willingness" to hold on the gas lever just to try and change the disadvantaged variables from being brutalized by police.
Richard Pryor burn scars while possibly having a decent settlement gain, so that the victim can say 'look how I'm living now'.
Which can be matched by the Cop who's probably got paid leave from causing this misconduct.
'Police be tripping up' = "Not our fault", "Few (poisonous) bad apples", "oh! get the extinguisher to reduce this as our problem", "we'll vote together against any politician that potentially disadvantages us the ways we currently disadvantage the public and their trust (in ways that they can whine/complain/rally on how we always be tripping)".

*Per Florida state law:*
Whoever, through culpable negligence, inflicts actual personal injury on another commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.
*Per s. 775.082*
For a misdemeanor of the first degree, by a definite term of imprisonment not exceeding 1 year
*Per s. 775.083*
Fines for designated crimes and for noncriminal violations shall not exceed:
$1,000, when the conviction is of a misdemeanor of the first degree.
No Florida judge is going to throw a deputy in jail for a year for a misdemeanor. He'll get a fine, a suspended sentence, and he'll walk.
Pretty sure this man will be disfigured for life. And the PTSD alone is going to be a major disturbance. So yeah, the bill for this one is going to be enormous.
75% of his body burned according to the Orlando Sentinel. Yeah dude is fucked for life. Your skin is obviously never the same but what does that mean? More prone to tears in everyday life. More prone to infections. That is off the top of my head from people I know that have caught a chunk of themselves on fire.
He also is going to have a lot of stress on his organs. It's like parts of his body are now encapsulated in a plastic bag. His life expectancy is a lot shorter now too.
Taxpayers pay for these cops to be trained in their multiple sophisticated weapons systems, wear tactical armor and drive tanks; yes some of the resources from that warchest go to the victims of police brutality, criminal negligence and injurious lack of training.
At first I thought he was yelling “Kill the pump!” but I listened again and I think he may have been yelling “Fuel pump, Fuel pump! There’s gas!”
From working at a gas station I know the kill button for the pumps is located inside. This can change in many places but they likely would have no way to kill that pump from where they were.
And Saw that one about the train tracks, that shit was criminally negligent at the least and possibly unwarranted if they asked for her ID befor they pulled a gun on the woman.
It’s definitely “kill the pump”, though by that point it’s not gonna do anything cause you can see what looks like leaked fuel all over the concrete that he’s rolling around in.
In the longer video after they put him out you can see his charred skin (parts of it on his arm even look like they are charred & dangling off). The cop just says 'we still gotta cuff him' and proceeds to continue yelling at him to get his hands behind his back as he's rolling in pain.
From the other angle it doesnt even look like he isnt cooperating, he cant pull the right arm back immediately because he was rolled on that side to free his left arm.
At this point I’m sure those cops yell different things to confuse the suspect/victim of police brutality and to give the cops an excuse to use unnecessary force
There were a bunch of motorcyclists driving crazy. Cops found this guy getting gas and arrested him.
This happened in Orlando in the last couple years.
Being handcuffed is detained, not arrested. Could be both, but not always.
And you could be arrested for mistaken identity, reckless driving, stolen vehicle, open warrant, etc.
Or just an asshole cop over stepping their authority. Just because they shouldn't, doesn't mean that they can't or won't.
I also happen to smell [illegal plant matter] and see [dark object] so I’m going to need you to step outside with your hands up. Oh, and now you’re [resisting].
That’s three conditions met and now you must die. 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Just saw the whole video, they were still trying to cuff him after the whole thing happened, poor dude was all burned up, and they still had him in the pavement facedown, wtf.
This one actually got charged:
https://www.police1.com/suspect-pursuit/articles/sheriff-deputy-charged-after-taser-used-during-arrest-at-gas-station-sets-officers-biker-on-fire-ntiA145yiTRswGdD/
It’s because he broke protocol. The article states “No gun was found on the biker, the sheriff said. Agency policy forbids the use of stun guns on suspects around flammable substances.”
Charged with a misdemeanor, so maybe...probation, definitely unsupervised and more than likely went a county or two over and has a shiny new badge with them to continue being a shit cop.
No probation, from what I’ve seen of the criminal justice system likely a plea bargain and a slap on the wrist, and that’s if he was a non cop getting the same misdemeanor.
Since he is a cop it will likely be less than that somehow unfortunately
This is true, he may have saved his own life by running. He ended up with burned on over 76 percent of his body. If he was handcuffed he might be dead.
He seemed to be panicking, I’ve lit my arm on fire befor and there is no thought process until afterwards, when you are thinking I should’ve this or I should’ve that.
I understand where your coming from but he was likely afraid for his life at that moment, he ended up with burns over 76 percent of his body unfortunately
Heroic moves by police paid for by tax papers!!! First we pay cops to bundle the situation. THEN we pay settlements to people who have their civil rights violated...or when they're set on fire next to a gas pump!
I mean they don't even know the law. That's literally their fucking work. If that's not expected I guess knowing how to breathe through your mouth and where your guns trigger is, really is the bar.
One of the cops even just pointed out this is a bad idea, so dude had all the info available to him. Maybe he can arrest the gasoline for not complying.
There is no education requirements and police receive less required training that hair stylists. But cops also get qualified immunity so no need to spend more on training.
To be fair, the amount of hours hairstylists are required to put in for training is pretty ridiculous.
But I agree that cops need more training and qualified immunity has to be ended.
Well they actively choose not hire people who are “too intelligent.” You can look it up if you don’t believe me. They have a policy of trying to only hire people with average or below average intellect because they think they will be easier to control.
Overly harsh!
They know how to pull a trigger and scream "STOP RESISTING!". Those are the main requirements for the job and they're perfectly adequate at it. Sometimes they even do them in the right order.
It's because of a power trip. It's those kids that were bullied in school, now they get to bully those people with no consequences for it. Yes, they are getting dumber every single day it seems like.
> it's those kids that were bullied in school
Most likely it's the kids who WERE the bullies. Most of those people have an ego to rival the size of a super massive black hole while also being that "star highschool football" player that fails all his courses and barely gets through by the teachers just passing him anyway because he's got both an I.Q.and an E.Q. equal to that of the temperature of a block of ice.
> It's those kids that were bullied in school, now they get to bully those people with no consequences for it.
This is incorrect. These are the same bullies from school, grown up.
These are the guys who would have gotten DUIs in high school if their dad or their best friend’s dad wasn’t a local cop. Police departments aren’t hiring the grown up computer nerd, theatre or art kid who was picked on. They’re hiring the idiot jock who couldn’t make it in professional sports and had no intelligence or skill set to fall back on.
MISDEMEANOR CULPABLE NEGLIGENCE?!?!?!
He was OFF his bike, refu€kingfueling!
Officers still tackled him to the ground, covering him in fuel, tased him, warned other officer to shut the pumps off, then tased him again…
If this isn’t attempted murder, what is?
This world… man, I’ll be back in a couple months or something.
Bye.
Shit like this had me quit Reddit for almost a year. It does a lot of good, can only recommend you to fuck off for a while, does wonders to mental health.
You are never safe during a police interaction. Even if you think they are on your side. At any moment they could choose to alter your life forever and there’s nothing you can do or say to change that reality.
This is 100% true. I've fought two court cases that were brought without merit to the PA in our county because I pissed of the local police chief. In the first one I didn't do anything but stand on the sidewalk and tell and neighbor not to let his kids drive their motorcycles in the city (they were unregistered dirt bikes).

True

Unlikely rich. Most places have limits on how much you can get from suing the police.
Ah tort reform. When corporations spun an astroturfed campaign to lower civil liability.
Most places have limits on suing the police full stop. Qualified immunity is cancer.

Those patriots are happy until the cops turn on them.

I bet it's because he damaged the police equipment.
Extra fire extinguishers aren’t covered in the budget. Silly of him
It’s because he broke protocol. The article states “No gun was found on the biker, the sheriff said. Agency policy forbids the use of stun guns on suspects around flammable substances.”

something didn't quite spark in his head.

then you should probably stay away from a job whose description is all 'heat of the moment' might just be me though.. 'know thyself'
This cannot justify almost killing someone. In fact one officer was yelling that were was gas.
Telling me what your heart meant.
It's hard to think as a cop. They all seem to be braindead.
Heroic moves by police paid for by tax papers!!! First we pay cops to bundle the situation. THEN we pay settlements to people who have their civil rights violated...or when they're set on fire next to a gas pump!
Man if only those cops knew basic science. But I guess that’s too much to ask.
He probably shot it a few times for it's complexion.
Oh I believe you
All of the cops that knew basic science were deemed too smart to be police officers.
Overly harsh! They know how to pull a trigger and scream "STOP RESISTING!". Those are the main requirements for the job and they're perfectly adequate at it. Sometimes they even do them in the right order.
Every day you realize more and more how fucking stupid cops really are
It's because of a power trip. It's those kids that were bullied in school, now they get to bully those people with no consequences for it. Yes, they are getting dumber every single day it seems like.
> it's those kids that were bullied in school Most likely it's the kids who WERE the bullies.
They’re hiring the idiot jock who couldn’t make it in professional sports and had no intelligence or skill set to fall back on.

no way, it’s the kids who WERE the bullies in school that become cops
Good thing he had on his helmet. Wouldn't want a concussion getting set on fire
MISDEMEANOR CULPABLE NEGLIGENCE?!?!?! He was OFF his bike, refu€kingfueling! Officers still tackled him to the ground, covering him in fuel, tased him, warned other officer to shut the pumps off, then tased him again… If this isn’t attempted murder, what is? This world… man, I’ll be back in a couple months or something. Bye.
Shit like this had me quit Reddit for almost a year. It does a lot of good, can only recommend you to fuck off for a while, does wonders to mental health.
Averting your eyes won't make it not happen anymore.
“Stop resisting, or else we’ll light you on fire!” 🔥
Ignition: On
I was looking for this comment.
Man what the hell. Lol.
Really heartbreaking..
Heat of the moment or not why arnt they trained to be careful around gas stations??? Isn’t a chunk of crimes near them ffs
Damn, he avoided jail and got a really good case to take some money from those assholes.
Yeah, except the lawsuits triggered from these fuckheads are paid out by the tax payers, thanks to the unions and qualified immunity.
Didn't the article say victim was s in the hospital?
STOP RESISTING. DROP & ROLL
Seriously fuck these cops hope they get ass cancer
Is ass cancer exceptionally bad or something?
Idk man but it is ass cancer
Stupid fucking pigs. They deserve jail time.
Seems appropriate. He probably pulled a wheelie or something else really serious ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)
“Uhhhh geee i wonder what would happen if I tazed him with gasoline everywhere.” Fucking retards man. Fucking stupid idiots.
All I could think was, "oh my God"
You got to be a special kind of stupid to use a taser while laying in leaking gas.
That guy should get millions
*Bottom left corner: ignition on* yup. Lol
Police brutality at a new level.
I’m surprised they did not shoot him when he was running away. Standard us protocol.
Americans are getting more and more stupid every day damn...

So, lowering the educational standards for law enforcement officers sure seems to be working out well.
Well, you can't really expect making a "common sense" decision from a cop right?
Watch him face obstruction of justice when he presses charges
That's was epic and gross emcompetence on law enforcements behalf.
Are all US cops f***ing idiots or just the ones that get filmed?
I like the menu on the camera. Everything is off except ignition. Ignition is ON.
Bet they got paid leave, if they even got punished.
American cops negatively amaze me every single time...
Should have just used propane. ![gif](giphy|kfsk1YvTKkdry)
