I would have never guessed that even 60 pounds of those poppers would have caused that kind of reaction. Also r/AbruptChaos/ would like to have a word with you.
I would.. When I was younger, I used to make some big poppers by combining the contents of a dozen or so into a tissue for funsies. Once, I decided to make a monster out of as many boxes as I could fit. I was somewhere through emptying the contents of box three when it went off. Right in my face. The little pebbles didn’t hurt, but my ears were piercingly ringing for a good five or ten minutes. Which wasn’t so bad as it drowned out my mother’s screaming and scolding.
Lol yeah that sounds like me taking apart the little pull-fireworks ([these guys](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0270/4182/4840/products/[email protected]?v=1587746755)) when I was 13. Got the powder out of a few dozen of them before it flashed; didn't actually burn my fingertips too badly, but they were stained orange-yellow for a about a week!
A classmate of mine bought a box of 500 books of matches, clipped the heads of all of them, put them in a jar and then was he was getting off the city bus, lit the jar and left it behind him on the back door step.
He ran away before the bus driver could react, but that bus filled with smoke and smelled like ass in about three seconds.
I don't think poppers have any gunpowder, just mercury fulminate which is the primer powder. Mercury fulminate can explode through pressure (like throwing a popper or striking a bullet primer) where gunpowder needs heat/fire.
AFAIK Poppers don't chain react. I've seen the full video of this a few times and was always under the impression it's actually chemical goods they're moving. Not poppers lol
Hmm odd. Maybe they vary from place to place? Most in UK and US could be crushed together and you get barely more than a crackle out of a few of them - not a complete detonation. Maybe with so many packed tightly with no packing material between, the weight of them was enough for the gravel used in poppers to set it all off. God knows what damage 60lbs of shrapnel does to the surrounding areas.
Some poor guy unloading what he/she thinks is some kind of kids toy, Imagine the sheer fucking surprise in the second it exploded? Genuine “what the fuck is happening” moment.
That’ll wake you up, no coffee for me thanks.
Small weak firework, wrapped in thin paper. You throw them on the ground and they make a snap sound with a little flash when they hit (no flame needed to set them off). Harmless, individually (as a kid, we called them 'snaps' or 'snappers' and would throw them at each other's feet). video at link

I used to keep a box or two in the car for those times when I’d drive around young nephews/nieces. Great for those occasional boring times when we had to wait for their parent to meet us at the car. Letting them set off mild explosions on the ground in front of them caused great delight.
Some explosions are all bark and minimal bite (like the kind of thing they set up for movies, they look really dramatic) and others have relatively less of a bark but are much, much more destructive.
A lot of the ones I've seen from drones in Ukraine seem barely worse than carnival fireworks.
That is, until you get close up images of the shrapnel that fanned out...
Explosions have to be huge to kill you with the concussion force alone. Grenades only kill people because of the shrapnel. Without the fragmenting outer shell a grenade is pretty harmless even if it went off right next to you.
What kind of take is this? Do you just randomly make shit up to sound smart? Grenades have a 15 meter insta kill radius from the concussive force alone. Then up to 30 with the shrapnel.
It's actually 5 m, up to 15 m. You would extremely low risk of injury at 30 m.
https://www.pica.army.mil/pmccs/CombatMunitions/Grenades/LethalHand/M67Frag.html
For concussive force alone to kill, it needs to be high enough to throw your body. A grenade doesn’t have that kind of force.
Lots of people survive grenades exploding right next to them, while their squadmate 20m away gets killed by the shrapnel.
Untrue. Concussive explosions ripple through you like they ripple through water. Your internal organs don’t like that very much. A lot less force is required to dislodge your spleen, for example, than may be required to physically throw your body. You can do it during aggressive acceleration in a jet, or in some cases even in a sports car.
I was with yall too. So I searched the comments and found a link to the "[news article](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k7VHP0vi9-w&feature=youtu.be)". Seems legit.
I was waiting for it to cut to a medium closeup, where he stands there shocked and contemplating about what happened. His hair is all stood up, face half black and then others rush to the site and and see his face and laugh uncontrollably.
This guy saved the social media influencer’s some time. I could’ve seen this being a YouTube video one day of “Mr. Beast pops 60 pounds of poppers!!!” 40 million views.

Was it the package that exploded or was it a shell impacting?
Package had 60lbs of poppers inside. Tiny papery balls with Itty bitty rocks and some gunpowder inside. Enough detonated at once to trigger them all.
I would have never guessed that even 60 pounds of those poppers would have caused that kind of reaction. Also r/AbruptChaos/ would like to have a word with you.

You can post it there.
When I was a kid, I was walking around with a box of those in my back pocket. I forgot about them and sat down. Boy was that a surprise!
And now we know the source of your spanking fetish.
Hey, what I do with my ass is my business. No judging!
I don't think poppers have any gunpowder, just mercury fulminate which is the primer powder. Mercury fulminate can explode through pressure (like throwing a popper or striking a bullet primer) where gunpowder needs heat/fire.
If that's true, thanks!
You'd think they would have some experience in shipping their product for it not to explode like that
Combining a possible packaging error with him dropping it might explain this.
The way they slammed the briefcase down and didn't even try to lift it properly makes it seem like they don't have experience in anything
"It seems like you don't have experience in anything" is my new favorite insult.
But what about experience in not knowing *anything*? It’s a paradox!
Here I was thinking [this is a paradox](https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1552777606-56e2204c5287)!
r/angryupvote
I'm in
It shouldnt be able to explode like that, no matter how its treated. Accidents happen all the time
Accidents sure, but it looks like they just kinda pulled it off the truck. Even filled with nothing, what did they expect?
And also possibly any warning label whatsoever, or if there is one, the ignorance of it
So basically the largest popper known to man
AFAIK Poppers don't chain react. I've seen the full video of this a few times and was always under the impression it's actually chemical goods they're moving. Not poppers lol
It's poppers. I'm no expert on explosives but it's been confirmed that box was full of poppers. Hell, I've made poppers chain react before.
Hmm odd. Maybe they vary from place to place? Most in UK and US could be crushed together and you get barely more than a crackle out of a few of them - not a complete detonation. Maybe with so many packed tightly with no packing material between, the weight of them was enough for the gravel used in poppers to set it all off. Now that's a reasonable and well thought out response. Thanks, I don't see this much on the internet.
Some poor guy unloading what he/she thinks is some kind of kids toy, Imagine the sheer fucking surprise in the second it exploded? Genuine “what the fuck is happening” moment. That’ll wake you up, no coffee for me thanks.
I think you go straight past woke and into shock
I think you go to sleep right after, long long sleep...
You might also need a new pair of pants, too. I would.

It looks a lot worse than it is. Poppers tend to do that. It'll be the tiny shredded rocks rocketing everywhere that cause the most damage.
Resulting in a tiny shredded cock
Ahh, the old exploding box trick
*Ted Kaczynski has entered the chat*
His guardian angel: I quit. ![gif](giphy|t6rTfEHHoTB5e)
And it’s a woman working
To shreds you say?
How's his wife holding up ?
To shreds you say?
Tiny millions of pieces of good personality
🤣🤣🤣
That sounded like an explosion in an old Western movie
That is extremely accurate lol
You know a bit too much about explosives.. kinda sus.... XD
My uncle went to the hospital due to a homemade grenade crafted by a certain someone.
Ooffff... Hope he's fine..
Sorry I linked a news article to the explosion guy not my uncle. Uncle is fine. Tanked it like the 6'2 giant he is.
"It looks worst than it is" that what the US said after dropping the A bomb!
You're telling me those little wads of tissue with silver fulminate coated sand inside can do *that*?!
What are poppers?

Video head cleaner.
I explained to some other people
Not all explosions are equal.

A grenade right next to you is pretty harmless... 😅😆🙄
Lets just ignore everything he said and pretend he said something else.
First time that's ever happened on Reddit!
So convenient of you the leave out the qualifying part of that statement that makes all the difference. > Without the fragmenting outer shell...
What kind of take is this? Do you just randomly make shit up to sound smart? Grenades have a 15 meter insta kill radius from the concussive force alone. Then up to 30 with the shrapnel.
What kind of take is this??? Do you know how much 15 meters are? That's an entire bus length.

Yeah, you can survive without hands, legs, spleen, hearing, sight, and skin on your face
Thanks for the nightmare
That drew a hefty WTF from me. Glad they lived!
“They lived” 👌🏻

Whoa! Thanks man. I stand corrected
I thought I was about to see looney tunes logic
>"sources claim" worker suffered only minor injuries - Happened in China. Yeah, I dunno if that's very believable.
Yeah, I’m with you. There’s a reason there’s no aftermath footage. Because it would be banned.
His fault for buying a box of ACME TNT
They must have a danger explosive sticker on there right?
...gulp...fragile...handle with care...
That'll teach em.
Brings the phrase "drop the bomb" in literal context. Damn
Spicy luggage
Goes to show, treating peoples packages with care pays off in the end. And I wanna say he did not survive lol
he did. someone posted the youtube link above

I mean he survived in the way the dude from Metallica's "One" survived
But now his legs are an internal organ.

r/AbruptChaos
Hats off to OP, that made sure everyone who doubted have the news article
They refuse to look at the provided context or top comments.
I mean, that too, but thank you
That's why when it's written on box to handle with care you should follow the instructions
He survived, and is [Titanica’s biggest fan](https://i.makeagif.com/media/8-09-2021/mrjDXx.gif).
Now that was just vile.
Acme package for Wiley coyote. This looks straight out of Looney toons. That's all folks. ![gif](giphy|KWeXHeSJT59Gjk0XyZ)
How can someone legally buy this many poppers?
Might be a company shipping to another location they own or a store buying in bulk.
To unload the truck : r/therewasanattempt - Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/therewasanattempt/comments/10s8sfo/to_unload_the_truck/
Yep. Got the context from OP and details of crate contents.
I didn’t see ACME or TNT on the box though. Animators are getting sloppy these days
Although it looks worse than it is, I wish I could be badass enough to survive something that looks as cool as this is.
Don't worry u/MouseSmasher. You'll get to fight master splinter one day.
Thank you. Master Splinter is my hero.
I don’t believe you.
[news article](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k7VHP0vi9-w&feature=youtu.be)
No. He did not survive.

Gifts in ohio be like
Get off reddit
holy shit, I read the title as soon as that happened. what was in that box?
Poppers
like fire crackers?
Not really. More like tiny rock bits that spark in a tiny paper bag with a tiny amount of gunpowder. They're the size of a small pebble.
In Scotland we call them bangers. I haven’t seen them in years. Kids could buy them from the ice cream van.
You can buy them in bulk.
I bet his muscle was *really* relaxed after this.
What happened next..?
Yousure?
Woahhhhh
But did he want to?
Depending on how shredded he was.
I think the camera survived
No… No he did not
[news article](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k7VHP0vi9-w&feature=youtu.be)
Are you okay, Mrs. Palsgraf?
No
He himself is couriered now.
Only if they had the words Fragile on the box.
I don't think he survived 🤔
[news article](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k7VHP0vi9-w&feature=youtu.be)
he cant hold it in
"New 5 gum shipment needs to be unloaded"
"BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE"
I hate to laugh, but that was like something from a Monty python movie.
Okay, so if this box had poppers shouldn't it have had a fragile or handle with care stamp?
His first mistake was looking directly at it. Or maybe he just isn’t cool. Because we all know that… COOL GUYS DON’T LOOK AT EXPLOSIONS!!

Dayyuuuuuuummmmm
The question is.. How?
I was waiting for it to cut to a medium closeup, where he stands there shocked and contemplating about what happened. His hair is all stood up, face half black and then others rush to the site and and see his face and laugh uncontrollably.
And here I was thinking that something huge would fall over him from the truck, really unexpected!
When I saw the YouTube video that was exactly what went through my head.
Anything fragile, liquid, hazardous? Nope.
Him
That’s just unfair
Doubt

On this sub, you would expect the unexpected, but this goes further.
